1 When I would heal Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim is discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they practise falsehood; and the thief entereth in, and the troop of robbers assaileth without. 2 And they say not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now do their own doings encompass them; they are before my face. 3 They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. 4 They all practise adultery, as an oven heated by the baker: he ceaseth from stirring the fire after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened. 5 In the day of our king, the princes made themselves sick with the heat of wine: he stretched out his hand to scorners. 6 For they have applied their heart like an oven to their lying in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth like a flaming fire. 7 They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.

8 Ephraim, he mixeth himself with the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned. 9 Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not; yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, and he knoweth it not. 10 And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face; and they do not return to Jehovah their God*GodHebrew: Elohim nor seek him for all this. 11 And Ephraim is become like a silly dove without understanding: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria. 12 When they go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowl of the heavens; I will chastise them, according as their assembly hath heard. 13 Woe unto them! for they have wandered from me; destruction unto them! for they have transgressed against me. And I would redeem them; but they speak lies against me. 14 And they cried not unto me in their heart, when they howled upon their beds; they assemble themselves for corn and new wine; they have turned aside from me. 15 I have indeed trained, I have strengthened their arms, but they imagine mischief against me. 16 They return, but not to the Most High: they are like a deceitful bow. Their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.

1 Când vreau să vindec pe Israel, atunci se descoperă nelegiuirea lui Efraim și răutatea Samariei, căci lucrează cu*Cap. 5:1;6:10. vicleșug. Înăuntru vine hoțul, și ceata de tâlhari jefuiește afară. 2 Și nu se gândesc în inima lor că Eu Îmi aduc aminte*Ier. 17:1. de toată răutatea lor; faptele lor*Ps. 9:16.Prov. 5:22. îi și înconjoară și stau înaintea*Ps. 90:8. Mea! 3 Ei veselesc pe împărat cu răutatea lor și pe căpetenii cu minciunile*Rom. 1:32. lor. 4 Toți*Ier. 9:2. sunt preacurvari, ca un cuptor încălzit de brutar, și brutarul încetează să mai ațâțe focul de când a frământat plămădeala până s-a ridicat. 5 În ziua împăratului nostru, căpeteniile se îmbolnăvesc de prea mult vin, împăratul dă mâna cu batjocoritorii. 6 Le arde inima după curse ca un cuptor; toată noaptea le fumegă mânia, iar dimineața arde ca un foc aprins. 7 Toți ard ca un cuptor și își mănâncă judecătorii; toți împărații*Cap. 8:4. lor cad*2 Împ. 15:10,14,25,30.; niciunul*Is. 64:7. din ei nu Mă cheamă. 8 Efraim se amestecă*Ps. 106:35. printre popoare, Efraim este o turtă care n-a fost întoarsă. 9 Niște străini*Cap. 8:7. îi mănâncă puterea, și el nu-și dă seama; îl apucă bătrânețea, și el nu-și dă seama. 10 Măcar că mândria*Cap. 5:5. lui Israel mărturisește împotriva lor, tot nu se întorc*Is. 9:13. la Domnul Dumnezeul lor și tot nu-L caută, cu toate aceste pedepse! 11 Ci Efraim*Cap. 11:11. a ajuns ca o turturică proastă, fără pricepere; ei cheamă Egiptul*2 Împ. 15:19;17:4. Cap. 5:13;9:3;12:1. și aleargă în Asiria. 12 Dar, ori de câte ori se duc, Îmi voi întinde*Ezec. 12:13. lațul peste ei, îi voi doborî ca pe păsările cerului și-i voi pedepsi cum le-am spus*Lev. 26:14.Deut. 28:15.2 Împ. 17:13,18. în adunarea lor. 13 Vai de ei, pentru că fug de Mine! Pieirea vine peste ei, pentru că nu-Mi sunt credincioși! Aș vrea să-i scap*Mica 6:4., dar ei spun minciuni împotriva Mea! 14 Nu strigă*Iov 35:9,10.Ps. 78:36.Ier. 3:10.Zah. 7:5. către Mine din inimă, ci se bocesc în așternutul lor; turbează după grâu și must și se răzvrătesc împotriva Mea. 15 I-am pedepsit, le-am întărit brațele, dar ei gândesc rău împotriva Mea. 16 Se întorc*Cap. 11:7., dar nu la Cel Preaînalt; sunt*Ps. 78:57. ca un arc înșelător. Mai-marii lor vor cădea uciși de sabie din pricina vorbirii lor îndrăznețe*Ps. 73:9., care-i va face de râs în țara Egiptului*Cap. 9:3,6..
