1 And immediately in the morning the chief priests, having taken counsel with the elders and scribes and the whole sanhedrim, bound Jesus and carried him away, and delivered him up to Pilate. 2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered and said to him, Thou sayest. 3 And the chief priests accused him urgently. 4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? See of how many things they bear witness against thee. 5 But Jesus still answered nothing, so that Pilate marvelled. 6 But at the feast he released to them one prisoner, whomsoever they begged of him. 7 Now there was the person named Barabbas bound with those who had made insurrection with him, and that had committed murder in the insurrection. 8 And the crowd crying out began to beg that he would do to them as he had always done. 9 But Pilate answered them saying, Will ye that I release to you the King of the Jews? 10 for he knew that the chief priests had delivered him up through envy. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd that he might rather release Barabbas to them. 12 And Pilate answering said to them again, What will ye then that I do to him whom ye call King of the Jews? 13 And they cried out again, Crucify him. 14 And Pilate said to them, What evil then has he done? But they cried out the more urgently, Crucify him.

15 And Pilate, desirous of contenting the crowd, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus, when he had scourged him, that he might be crucified. 16 And the soldiers led him away into the court which is called the praetorium, and they call together the whole band. 17 And they clothe him with purple, and bind round on him a crown of thorns which they had plaited. 18 And they began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews! 19 And they struck his head with a reed, and spat on him, and, bending the knee, did him homage. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took the purple off him, and put his own clothes on him; and they lead him out that they may crucify him. 21 And they compel to go with them a certain passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus, that he might carry his cross.

22 And they bring him to the place called Golgotha, which, being interpreted, is Place of a skull. 23 And they offered him wine to drink medicated with myrrh; but he did not take it. 24 And having crucified him, they part his clothes amongst themselves, casting lots on them, what each one should take. 25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him. 26 And the superscription of what he was accused of was written up: The King of the Jews. 27 And with him they crucify two robbers, one on his right hand, and one on his left. 28 And the scripture was fulfilled which says, And he was reckoned with the lawless.29 And they that passed by reviled him, shaking their heads, and saying, Aha, thou that destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, 30 save thyself, and descend from the cross. 31 In like manner the chief priests also, with the scribes, mocking with one another, said, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32 Let the Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and may believe. And they that were crucified with him reproached him.

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there came darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour; 34 and at the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calls for Elias. 36 And one, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, fixed it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone, let us see if Elias comes to take him down. 37 And Jesus, having uttered a loud cry, expired. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom. 39 And the centurion who stood by over against him, when he saw that he had expired having thus cried out, said, Truly this man was Son of God. 40 And there were women also looking on from afar off, among whom were both Mary of Magdala, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; 41 who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered to him; and many others who came up with him to Jerusalem.

42 And when it was already evening, since it was the preparation, that is, the day before a sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathaea, an honourable councillor, who also himself was awaiting the kingdom of God, coming, emboldened himself and went in to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus. 44 And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and having called to him the centurion, he inquired of him if he had long died. 45 And when he knew from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 And having bought fine linen, and having taken him down, he swathed him in the fine linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was cut out of rock, and rolled a stone to the door of the sepulchre. 47 And Mary of Magdala and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was put.

După ce au legat pe Isus, L-au dus și L-au dat în mâinile lui Pilat. 2 Pilat*Mat. 27:11. L-a întrebat: „Ești Tu Împăratul iudeilor?" „Da, sunt", i-a răspuns Isus. 3 Preoții cei mai de seamă Îl învinuiau de multe lucruri. 4 Pilat*Mat. 27:18. L-a întrebat din nou: „Nu răspunzi nimic? Uite de câte lucruri Te învinuiesc ei!" 5 Isus*Is. 53:7.Ioan 19:9. n-a mai dat niciun răspuns, lucru care a mirat pe Pilat.

6 La*Mat. 27:15.Luca 23:17.Ioan 18:39. fiecare Praznic al Paștelor, Pilat le slobozea un întemnițat, pe care-l cereau ei. 7 În temniță era unul numit Baraba, închis împreună cu tovarășii lui din pricina unui omor pe care-l săvârșiseră într-o răscoală. 8 Norodul s-a suit și a început să ceară lui Pilat să le dea ce avea obicei să le dea totdeauna. 9 Pilat le-a răspuns: „Voiți să vă slobozesc pe Împăratul iudeilor?" 10 Căci pricepuse că preoții cei mai de seamă din pizmă Îl dăduseră în mâna lui. 11 Dar preoții*Mat. 27:20.Fapte 3:14. cei mai de seamă au ațâțat norodul să ceară lui Pilat să le slobozească mai bine pe Baraba. 12 Pilat a luat din nou cuvântul și le-a zis: „Dar ce voiți să fac cu Acela pe care-L numiți Împăratul iudeilor?" 13 Ei au strigat din nou: „Răstignește-L!" 14 „Dar ce rău a făcut?", le-a zis Pilat. Însă ei au început să strige și mai tare: „Răstignește-L!" 15 Pilat*Mat. 27:26.Ioan 19:1,16. a vrut să facă pe placul norodului și le-a slobozit pe Baraba, iar pe Isus, după ce a pus să-L bată cu nuiele, L-a dat să fie răstignit. 16 Ostașii*Mat. 27:27. au adus pe Isus în curte, adică în palat, și au adunat toată ceata ostașilor. 17 L-au îmbrăcat într-o haină de purpură, au împletit o cunună de spini și I-au pus-o pe cap. 18 Apoi au început să-I ureze și să zică: „Plecăciune, Împăratul iudeilor!" 19 Și-L loveau în cap cu o trestie, Îl scuipau, îngenuncheau și I se închinau. 20 După ce și-au bătut astfel joc de El, L-au dezbrăcat de haina de purpură, L-au îmbrăcat în hainele Lui și L-au dus să-L răstignească.

21 Au*Mat. 27:32.Luca 23:26. silit să ducă crucea lui Isus pe un trecător care se întorcea de la câmp, numit Simon din Cirene, tatăl lui Alexandru și al lui Rufus. 22 Și*Mat. 27:33.Luca 23:33.Ioan 19:17. au adus pe Isus la locul numit Golgota, care, tălmăcit, înseamnă: „Locul căpățânii". 23 I-au*Mat. 27:34. dat să bea vin amestecat cu smirnă, dar El nu l-a luat. 24 După ce L-au răstignit, I-au*Ps. 22:18.Luca 23:34.Ioan 19:23. împărțit hainele între ei trăgând la sorți, ca să știe ce să ia fiecare. 25 Când L-au răstignit, era*Mat. 27:45.Luca 23:34.Ioan 19:18. ceasul al treilea. 26 Deasupra Lui era scrisă*Mat. 27:37.Ioan 19:19. vina Lui: „Împăratul iudeilor". 27 Împreună*Mat. 27:38. cu El au răstignit doi tâlhari, unul la dreapta și altul la stânga Lui. 28 Astfel s-a împlinit Scriptura, care zice: „A*Is. 53:12.Luca 22:37. fost pus în numărul celor fărădelege."

29 Trecătorii*Ps. 22:7. Cap. 14:58.Ioan 2:19. își băteau joc de El, dădeau din cap și ziceau: „Uă! Tu, care strici Templul și-l zidești la loc în trei zile, 30 mântuiește-Te pe Tine Însuți și coboară-Te de pe cruce!" 31 Tot astfel și preoții cei mai de seamă, împreună cu cărturarii, își băteau joc de El între ei și ziceau: „Pe alții i-a mântuit, și pe Sine Însuși nu Se poate mântui! 32 Hristosul, Împăratul lui Israel, să Se coboare acum de pe cruce, ca să vedem și să credem!" Cei*Mat. 27:44.Luca 23:39. răstigniți împreună cu El, de asemenea, își băteau joc de El.

33 La ceasul*Mat. 27:45.Luca 23:44. al șaselea, s-a făcut întuneric peste toată țara până la ceasul al nouălea. 34 Și în ceasul al nouălea, Isus a strigat cu glas tare: „Eloi*Ps. 22:1.Mat. 27:46., Eloi, Lama Sabactani?", care, tălmăcit, înseamnă: „Dumnezeul Meu, Dumnezeul Meu, pentru ce M-ai părăsit?"35 Unii din cei ce stăteau acolo, când L-au auzit, ziceau: „Iată, cheamă pe Ilie!" 36 Și unul din ei a alergat*Mat. 27:48.Ioan 19:29. de a umplut un burete cu oțet, l-a pus într-o trestie și I-a dat*Ps. 69:21. să bea, zicând: „Lăsați să vedem dacă va veni Ilie să-L coboare de pe cruce!" 37 Dar*Mat. 27:50.Luca 23:46.Ioan 19:30. Isus a scos un strigăt tare și Și-a dat duhul. 38 Perdeaua*Mat. 27:50.Ioan 19:30.Luca 23:41. dinăuntrul Templului s-a rupt în două de sus până jos. 39 Sutașul, care sta în fața lui Isus, când a văzut*Mat. 27:55.Luca 23:46. că Și-a dat astfel duhul, a zis: „Cu adevărat, Omul acesta era Fiul lui Dumnezeu!" 40 Acolo*Mat. 27:55.Luca 23:49. erau și niște femei care priveau de*Ps. 38:11. departe. Printre ele erau Maria Magdalena, Maria, mama lui Iacov cel mic și a lui Iose, și Salome, 41 care, pe când era El în Galileea, mergeau*Luca 8:2,3. după El și-I slujeau, și multe alte femei care se suiseră împreună cu El în Ierusalim.

42 Când*Mat. 27:57.Luca 23:50.Ioan 19:38. s-a înserat, fiindcă era Ziua Pregătirii, adică ziua dinaintea Sabatului, 43 a venit Iosif din Arimateea, un sfetnic cu vază al soborului, care și el aștepta*Luca 2:25,38. Împărăția lui Dumnezeu. El a îndrăznit să se ducă la Pilat ca să ceară trupul lui Isus. 44 Pilat s-a mirat că murise așa de curând. A chemat pe sutaș și l-a întrebat dacă a murit de mult. 45 După ce s-a încredințat de la sutaș că a murit, a dăruit lui Iosif trupul. 46 Și*Mat. 27:59,60.Luca 23:53.Ioan 19:40. Iosif a cumpărat o pânză subțire de in, a dat jos pe Isus de pe cruce, L-a înfășurat în pânza de in și L-a pus într-un mormânt săpat în stâncă. Apoi a prăvălit o piatră la ușa mormântului. 47 Maria Magdalena și Maria mama lui Iose se uitau unde-L puneau.
