1 And he entered again into Capernaum after several days, and it was reported that he was at the house; 2 and straightway many were gathered together, so that there was no longer any room, not even at the door; and he spoke the word to them. 3 And there come to him men bringing a paralytic, borne by four; 4 and, not being able to get near to him on account of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was, and having dug it up they let down the couch on which the paralytic lay. 5 But Jesus, seeing their faith, says to the paralytic, Child, thy sins are forgiven thee. 6 But certain of the scribes were there sitting, and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why does this man thus speak? he blasphemes. Who is able to forgive sins except God alone? 8 And straightway Jesus, knowing in his spirit that they are reasoning thus within themselves, said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy couch and walk? 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins, he says to the paralytic, 11 To thee I say, Arise, take up thy couch and go to thine house. 12 And he rose up straightway, and, having taken up his couch, went out before them all, so that all were amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it thus.

13 And he went out again by the sea, and all the crowd came to him, and he taught them. 14 And passing by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax-office, and says to him, Follow me. And he rose up and followed him. 15 And it came to pass as he lay at table in his house, that many tax-gatherers and sinners lay at table with Jesus and his disciples; for they were many, and they followed him. 16 And the scribes and the Pharisees, seeing him eating with sinners and tax-gatherers, said to his disciples, Why is it that he eats and drinks with tax-gatherers and sinners? 17 And Jesus having heard it says to them, They that are strong have not need of a physician, but those who are ill. I have not come to call righteous men, but sinners.

18 And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting; and they come and say to him, Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? 19 And Jesus said to them, Can the sons of the bride-chamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But days will come when the bridegroom shall have been taken away from them, and then shall they fast in that day. 21 No one sews a patch of new cloth on an old garment: otherwise its new filling-up takes from the old stuff, and there is a worse rent. 22 And no one puts new wine into old skins; otherwise the wine bursts the skins, and the wine is poured out, and the skins will be destroyed; but new wine is to be put into new skins. 23 And it came to pass that he went on the sabbath through the cornfields; and his disciples began to walk on, plucking the ears. 24 And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath what is not lawful? 25 And he said to them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need and hungered, he and those with him, 26 how he entered into the house of God, in the section of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the shew-bread, which it is not lawful unless for the priests to eat, and gave even to those that were with him? 27 And he said to them, The sabbath was made on account of man, not man on account of the sabbath; 28 so that the Son of man is lord of the sabbath also.

1 După câteva zile, Isus S-a întors*Mat. 9:1.Luca 5:18. în Capernaum. S-a auzit că este în casă 2 și s-au adunat îndată așa de mulți că nu putea să-i mai încapă locul dinaintea ușii. El le vestea Cuvântul. 3 Au venit la El niște oameni care I-au adus un slăbănog, purtat de patru inși. 4 Fiindcă nu puteau să ajungă până la El din pricina norodului, au desfăcut acoperișul casei unde era Isus și, după ce l-au spart, au coborât pe acolo patul în care zăcea slăbănogul. 5 Când le-a văzut Isus credința, a zis slăbănogului: „Fiule, păcatele îți sunt iertate!"6 Unii din cărturari, care erau de față, se gândeau în inimile lor: 7 „Cum vorbește Omul acesta astfel? Hulește! Cine*Iov 14:4.Is. 43:25. poate să ierte păcatele decât numai Dumnezeu?" 8 Îndată, Isus a cunoscut*Mat. 9:4., prin duhul Său, că ei gândeau astfel în ei și le-a zis: „Pentru ce aveți astfel de gânduri în inimile voastre?9 Ce*Mat. 9:5.este mai lesne: a zice slăbănogului: ‘Păcatele îți sunt iertate’ ori a zice: ‘Scoală-te, ridică-ți patul și umblă’?10 Dar, ca să știți că Fiul omului are putere pe pământ să ierte păcatele,11 ție îți poruncesc", a zis El slăbănogului, „scoală-te, ridică-ți patul și du-te acasă."12 Și îndată, slăbănogul s-a sculat, și-a ridicat patul și a ieșit afară în fața tuturor; așa că toți au rămas uimiți și slăveau pe Dumnezeu și ziceau: „Niciodată n-am văzut așa ceva!"

13 Isus*Mat. 9:9. a ieșit iarăși la mare. Toată mulțimea venea la El; și El învăța pe toți. 14 Când*Mat. 9:9.Luca 5:27. trecea pe acolo, a văzut pe Levi, fiul lui Alfeu, șezând la vamă. Și i-a zis: „Vino după Mine!" Levi s-a sculat și a mers după El.

15 Pe*Mat. 9:10. când ședea Isus la masă în casa lui Levi, mulți vameși și păcătoși au șezut și ei la masă cu El și cu ucenicii Lui; căci erau mulți care mergeau de obicei după El. 16 Cărturarii și fariseii, când L-au văzut mâncând cu vameșii și cu păcătoșii, au zis ucenicilor Lui: „De ce mănâncă El și bea cu vameșii și cu păcătoșii?" 17 Isus, când a auzit acest lucru, le-a zis: „Nu*Mat. 9:12,13;18:11.Luca 5:31,32;19:10.1 Tim. 1:15.cei sănătoși au trebuință de doctor, ci cei bolnavi. Eu am venit să chem la pocăință nu pe cei neprihăniți, ci pe cei păcătoși."

18 Ucenicii*Mat. 9:14.Luca 5:33. lui Ioan și fariseii obișnuiau să postească. Ei au venit și au zis lui Isus: „Pentru ce ucenicii lui Ioan și ai fariseilor postesc, iar ucenicii Tăi nu postesc?" 19 Isus le-a răspuns: „Oare pot posti nuntașii câtă vreme este mirele cu ei? Câtă vreme au pe mire cu ei, nu pot posti.20 Vor veni zile când va fi luat mirele de la ei, și atunci vor posti în ziua aceea.21 Nimeni nu coase un petic de postav nou la o haină veche; altfel, peticul de postav nou rupe o parte din cel vechi și mai rea ruptură se face.22 Și nimeni nu pune vin nou în burdufuri vechi, altfel, vinul cel nou sparge burdufurile și vinul se varsă, iar burdufurile se prăpădesc; ci vinul nou este pus în burdufuri noi."

23 S-a întâmplat că, într-o zi de Sabat, Isus trecea*Mat. 12:1.Luca 6:1. prin lanurile de grâu. Ucenicii Lui, pe când mergeau, au început să smulgă*Deut. 23:25. spice de grâu. 24 Fariseii I-au zis: „Vezi, de ce fac ei ce nu este îngăduit să facă în ziua Sabatului?" 25 Isus le-a răspuns: „Oare n-ați citit niciodată ce*1 Sam. 21:6.a făcut David când a fost în nevoie și când au flămânzit el și cei ce erau împreună cu el?26 Cum a intrat în Casa lui Dumnezeu, în zilele marelui preot Abiatar, și a mâncat pâinile pentru punerea înaintea Domnului, pe care*Exod 29:32,33.Lev. 24:9.nu este îngăduit să le mănânce decât preoții? Și cum a dat din ele chiar și celor ce erau cu el?"27 Apoi le-a zis: „Sabatul a fost făcut pentru om, iar nu omul, pentru Sabat;28 așa că Fiul omului este Domn*Mat. 12:8.chiar și al Sabatului."
