1 In those days, there being again a great crowd, and they having nothing that they could eat, having called his disciples to him, he says to them, 2 I have compassion on the crowd, because they have stayed with me already three days and they have not anything they can eat, 3 and if I should dismiss them to their home fasting, they will faint on the way; for some of them are come from far. 4 And his disciples answered him, Whence shall one be able to satisfy these with bread here in a desert place? 5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven. 6 And he commanded the crowd to sit down on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, he gave thanks, and broke them and gave them to his disciples, that they might set them before them; and they set them before the crowd. 7 And they had a few small fishes, and having blessed them, he desired these also to be set before them. 8 And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up of fragments that remained seven baskets. 9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and he sent them away.

10 And immediately going on board ship with his disciples, he came into the parts of Dalmanutha. 11 And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute against him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, tempting him. 12 And groaning in his spirit, he says, Why does this generation seek a sign? Verily I say unto you, A sign shall in no wise be given to this generation. 13 And he left them, and going again on board ship, went away to the other side. 14 And they forgot to take bread, and save one loaf, they had not any with them in the ship. 15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod. 16 And they reasoned with one another, saying, It is because we have no bread. 17 And Jesus knowing it, says to them, Why reason ye because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your heart yet hardened? 18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say to him, Twelve. 20 And when the seven for the four thousand, the filling of how many baskets of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven. 21 And he said to them, How do ye not yet understand?

22 And he comes to Bethsaida; and they bring him a blind man, and beseech him that he might touch him. 23 And taking hold of the hand of the blind man he led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, he laid his hands upon him, and asked him if he beheld anything. 24 And having looked up, he said, I behold men, for I see them, as trees, walking. 25 Then he laid his hands again upon his eyes, and he saw distinctly, and was restored and saw all things clearly. 26 And he sent him to his house, saying, Neither enter into the village, nor tell it to any one in the village.

27 And Jesus went forth and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea-Philippi. And by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Who do men say that I am? 28 And they answered him, saying, John the baptist; and others, Elias; but others, One of the prophets. 29 And he asked them, But ye, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering says to him, Thou art the Christ. 30 And he charged them straitly, in order that they should tell no man about him. 31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and of the chief priests and of the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32 And he spoke the thing openly. And Peter, taking him to him, began to rebuke him. 33 But he, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, saying, Get away behind me, Satan, for thy mind is not on the things that are of God, but on the things that are of men. 34 And having called the crowd with his disciples, he said to them, Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and suffer the loss of his soul? 37 for what should a man give in exchange for his soul? 38 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him shall the Son of man also be ashamed when he shall come in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

1 În zilele acelea, fiindcă*Mat. 15:32. se strânsese din nou mult norod și n-avea ce mânca, Isus a chemat pe ucenicii Săi și le-a zis: 2 „Mi-e milă de norodul acesta, căci iată că de trei zile stau lângă Mine și n-au ce mânca.3 Dacă le voi da drumul acasă flămânzi, au să leșine de foame pe drum, fiindcă unii din ei au venit de departe."4 Ucenicii I-au răspuns: „Cum ar putea cineva să sature cu pâine pe oamenii aceștia aici, într-un loc pustiu?" 5 „Câte pâini aveți?", i-a întrebat*Mat. 15:34. Cap. 6:38. Isus. „Șapte", I-au răspuns ei. 6 Atunci a poruncit norodului să șadă pe pământ, a luat cele șapte pâini și, după ce a mulțumit lui Dumnezeu, le-a frânt și le-a dat ucenicilor Săi ca să le împartă, și ei le-au împărțit norodului. 7 Mai aveau și câțiva peștișori, și Isus, după ce i-a binecuvântat*Mat. 14:19. Cap. 6:41., a poruncit să-i împartă și pe aceia. 8 Au mâncat și s-au săturat și au ridicat șapte coșnițe pline cu rămășițele de firimituri. 9 Erau aproape patru mii de inși. În urmă, Isus le-a dat drumul.

10 Isus a intrat îndată*Mat. 15:33. în corabie cu ucenicii Săi și a venit în părțile Dalmanutei. 11 Fariseii au venit deodată*Mat. 12:38;16:1.Ioan 6:30. și au început o ceartă de vorbe cu Isus. Și, ca să-L pună la încercare, I-au cerut un semn din cer. 12 Isus a suspinat adânc în duhul Său și a zis: „Pentru ce cere neamul acesta un semn? Adevărat vă spun că neamului acestuia nu i se va da deloc un semn."13 Apoi i-a lăsat și a intrat iarăși în corabie, ca să treacă de cealaltă parte. 14 Ucenicii*Mat. 16:5. uitaseră să ia pâini; cu ei, în corabie, n-aveau decât o pâine. 15 Isus le dădea în grijă*Mat. 16:6.Luca 12:11. și le zicea: „Luați seama, să vă păziți bine de aluatul fariseilor și de aluatul lui Irod!"16 Ucenicii se gândeau și ziceau între ei: „Fiindcă n-avem pâini*Mat. 16:7.." 17 Isus a înțeles lucrul acesta și le-a zis: „Pentru ce vă gândiți că n-aveți pâini? Tot*Cap. 6:52.nu pricepeți și tot nu înțelegeți? Aveți inima împietrită?18 Aveți ochi și nu vedeți? Aveți urechi și nu auziți? Și nu vă aduceți aminte deloc?19 Când*Mat. 14:20. Cap. 6:43.Luca 9:17.Ioan 6:13.am frânt cele cinci pâini la cei cinci mii de bărbați, câte coșuri pline cu firimituri ați ridicat?" „Douăsprezece", I-au răspuns ei. 20 „Și când*Mat. 15:37. Vers. 8.am frânt cele șapte pâini la cei patru mii de bărbați, câte coșnițe pline cu firimituri ați ridicat?" „Șapte", I-au răspuns ei. 21 Și El le-a zis: „Tot nu*Cap. 6:52. Vers. 17.înțelegeți?"

22 Au venit la Betsaida; au adus la Isus un orb și L-au rugat să Se atingă de el. 23 Isus a luat pe orb de mână și l-a scos din sat, apoi i-a pus scuipat*Cap. 7:33. pe ochi, Și-a pus mâinile peste el și l-a întrebat: „Vezi ceva?"24 El s-a uitat și a zis: „Văd niște oameni umblând, dar mi se par ca niște copaci." 25 Isus i-a pus din nou mâinile pe ochi; i-a spus să se uite țintă și, când s-a uitat, a fost tămăduit și a văzut toate lucrurile deslușit. 26 Atunci, Isus l-a trimis acasă și i-a zis: „Să nu intri în sat și nici*Mat. 8:4. Cap. 5:43.să nu spui cuiva în sat."

27 Isus*Mat. 16:13.Luca 9:18. a plecat cu ucenicii Săi în satele Cezareii lui Filip. Pe drum le-a pus următoarea întrebare: „Cine zic oamenii că sunt Eu?"28 Ei I-au răspuns: „Ioan*Mat. 14:2. Botezătorul; alții: Ilie; alții: Unul din proroci." 29 „Dar voi", i-a întrebat El, „cine ziceți că sunt Eu?" „Tu*Mat. 16:16.Ioan 6:69;11:27. ești Hristosul!" I-a răspuns Petru. 30 Isus*Mat. 16:20. le-a poruncit cu tărie să nu spună nimănui lucrul acesta despre El.

31 Atunci a*Mat. 16:21;17:22.Luca 9:22. început să-i învețe că Fiul omului trebuie să pătimească mult, să fie tăgăduit de bătrâni, de preoții cei mai de seamă și de cărturari, să fie omorât și după trei zile să învieze. 32 Le spunea lucrurile acestea pe față. Petru însă L-a luat deoparte și a început să-L mustre. 33 Dar Isus S-a întors și S-a uitat la ucenicii Săi, a mustrat pe Petru și i-a zis: „Înapoia Mea, Satano! Fiindcă tu nu te gândești la lucrurile lui Dumnezeu, ci la lucrurile oamenilor."34 Apoi a chemat la El norodul împreună cu ucenicii Săi și le-a zis: „Dacă voiește cineva*Mat. 10:38;16:24.Luca 9:23;14:27.să vină după Mine, să se lepede de sine însuși, să-și ia crucea și să Mă urmeze.35 Căci oricine*Ioan 12:25.va vrea să-și scape viața o va pierde, dar oricine își va pierde viața din pricina Mea și din pricina Evangheliei o va mântui.36 Și ce folosește unui om să câștige toată lumea, dacă își pierde sufletul?37 Sau ce va da un om în schimb pentru sufletul său?38 Pentru că*Mat. 10:33.Luca 9:26;12:9.de oricine se*Rom. 1:16.2 Tim. 1:8;2:12.va rușina de Mine și de cuvintele Mele, în acest neam preacurvar și păcătos, Se va rușina și Fiul omului când va veni în slava Tatălui Său împreună cu sfinții îngeri."
