1 Rejoice not, Israel, exultingly, as the peoples; for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim thou hast loved harlot’s hire upon every corn-floor. 2 The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail her. 3 They shall not dwell in Jehovah’s land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and in Assyria shall they eat that which is unclean. 4 They shall pour out no offerings of wine to Jehovah, neither shall their sacrifices be pleasing unto him: they shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be defiled: for their bread shall be for themselves; it shall not come into the house of Jehovah. 5 What will ye do in the day of assembly, and in the day of the feast of Jehovah? 6 For behold, they are gone away because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Moph shall bury them: their pleasant things of silver, nettles shall possess them; thorns shall be in their tents.

7 The days of visitation are come; the days of recompence are come: Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the inspired man is mad, because of the greatness of thine iniquity, and the great enmity. 8 Is Ephraim a watchman with my God*GodHebrew: Elohimnay the prophet is a fowler’s snare on all his ways, enmity in the house of his God*GodHebrew: Elohim9 They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins. 10 I found Israel as grapes in the wilderness; as first-ripe fruit on the fig-tree, I saw your fathers at the beginning: they went to Baal-Peor, and separated themselves unto that shame, and became abominations like their lover.

11 As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away as a bird, — no birth, no pregnancy, no conception! 12 For even should they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that not a man remain: for woe also to them when I shall have departed from them! 13 Ephraim, as I saw him, was a Tyre planted in a beautiful place; but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the slayer. 14 Give them, Jehovah — what wilt thou give? — give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. 15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal; for there I hated them: because of the wickedness of their doings, I will drive them out of my house, I will love them no more: all their princes are rebellious. 16 Ephraim is smitten: their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit; yea, though they should bring forth, yet will I slay the beloved fruit of their womb. 17 My God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath rejected them, because they hearkened not unto him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

Pâinea*Deut. 26:14. lor le va fi ca o pâine de jale; toți cei ce vor mânca din ea se vor face necurați, căci pâinea lor va fi numai pentru*Lev. 17:11. ei, nu va intra în Casa Domnului! 5 Ce veți face în zilele de praznic*Cap. 2:11., la sărbătorile Domnului? 6 Căci iată că ei pleacă din pricina pustiirii; Egiptul*Cap. 7:16. Vers. 3. îi va aduna, Moful le va da morminte; ce au mai scump, argintul*Is. 5:6;32:13;34:13. Cap. 10:8. lor, va fi prada mărăcinilor și vor crește spinii în corturile lor. 7 Vin zilele pedepsei, vin zilele răsplătirii: Israel va vedea singur dacă prorocul este nebun sau dacă omul insuflat*Ezec. 13:3.Mica 2:11.Ţef. 3:4. aiurează. Și aceasta din pricina mărimii nelegiuirilor și răzvrătirilor tale. 8 Efraim stă la pândă*Ier. 6:17;31:6.Ezec. 3:17;33:7. împotriva Dumnezeului meu, prorocului i se întind lațuri de păsări pe toate căile lui, îl vrăjmășesc în Casa Dumnezeului său. 9 S-au afundat în stricăciune*Is. 31:6. Cap. 10:9., ca în zilele Ghibei*Jud. 19:22.; Domnul*Cap. 8:13. Își va aduce aminte de nelegiuirea lor, le va pedepsi păcatele. 10 „Am găsit pe Israel ca pe niște struguri în pustie, am văzut pe părinții voștri ca pe cele dintâi roade*Is. 28:4.Mica 7:1. ale unui smochin, în primăvară*Cap. 2:15., dar ei s-au dus la Baal-Peor*Num. 25:3.Ps. 106:28., s-au pus în slujba*Cap. 4:14. idolului scârbos*Ier. 11:13.Jud. 6:32. și au ajuns*Ps. 81:12.Ezec. 20:8.Amos 4:5. urâcioși ca și acela pe care îl iubeau. 11 Slava lui Efraim va zbura ca o pasăre: nu mai este nicio naștere, nicio însărcinare și nicio zămislire! 12 Chiar*Iov 27:14. dacă își vor crește copiii, îi voi lipsi*Deut. 28:41,62. de ei înainte ca să ajungă oameni mari, și vai*Deut. 31:17.2 Împ. 17:18. Cap. 5:6. de ei când Îmi voi întoarce*1 Sam. 28:15,16. privirile de la ei! 13 Efraim, după cum văd, își dă*Ezec. 26;27;28. copiii la pradă și Efraim*Vers. 16. Cap. 13:16. își va duce singur copiii la cel ce-i va ucide!" 14 Dă-le, Doamne!… Ce să le dai?… Dă-le un pântece*Luca 23:29. care să nască înainte de vreme și țâțe seci! 15 „Toată răutatea lor este la Ghilgal*Cap. 4:15;12:11.; acolo M-am scârbit de ei. Din pricina răutății*Cap. 1:6. faptelor lor, îi voi izgoni din Casa Mea. Nu-i mai pot iubi, toate căpeteniile*Is. 1:23. lor sunt niște îndărătnici. 16 Efraim este lovit, rădăcina i s-a uscat; nu mai dau rod și, chiar dacă au copii*Vers. 13., le voi omorî rodul iubit de ei." 17 Dumnezeul meu îi va lepăda, pentru că nu L-au ascultat, de aceea vor rătăci*Deut. 28:64,65. printre neamuri.
