1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars; 2 whilst their children remember their altars and their Asherim by the green trees upon the high hills. 3 O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures for a spoil, and thy high places, because of sin, throughout all thy borders. 4 And thou, even of thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger which shall burn for ever. 5 Thus saith the LORD: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, a salt land and not inhabited. 7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out his roots by the river, and shall not fear when heat cometh, but his leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is desperately sick: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. 11 As the partridge that gathereth young which she hath not brought forth, so is he that getteth riches, and not by right; in the midst of his days they shall leave him, and at his end he shall be a fool. 12 A glorious throne, set on high from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary. 13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed; they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters. 14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise. 15 Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now. 16 As for me, I have not hastened from being a shepherd after thee; neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was before thy face. 17 Be not a terror unto me: thou art my refuge in the day of evil. 18 Let them be ashamed that persecute me, but let not me be ashamed; let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction. 19 Thus said the LORD unto me: Go, and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem; 20 and say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates; 21 Thus saith the LORD: Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; 22 neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work: but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers; 23 But they hearkened not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, and might not receive instruction. 24 And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but to hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein; 25 then shall there enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever. 26 And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places round about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the lowland, and from the mountains, and from the South, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and oblations, and frankincense, and bringing sacrifices of thanksgiving, unto the house of the LORD. 27 But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

1 — O pecado de Judá está escrito com um ponteiro de ferro e com ponta de diamante, gravado na tábua do seu coração e nas pontas dos seus altares. 2 Os seus filhos se lembram dos seus altares e dos postes da deusa Aserá junto às árvores frondosas, sobre as colinas elevadas 3 e nos montes do campo. Darei os seus bens e todos os seus tesouros como despojo, e farei o mesmo com os seus lugares altos por causa do pecado, em todos os seus territórios! 4 Você terá de abandonar a herança que lhe dei. Farei com que você sirva os seus inimigos numa terra que você não conhece. Porque o fogo que você acendeu na minha ira queimará para sempre.

5 Assim diz o Senhor:

"Maldito aquele

que confia no ser humano,

que faz da carne mortal o seu braço

e cujo coração se desvia do Senhor!

6 Porque ele será como um arbusto

solitário no deserto

e não verá quando vier o bem;

pelo contrário, morará

nos lugares secos do deserto,

na terra salgada e inabitável."

7 "Bendito aquele

que confia no Senhor

e cuja esperança é o Senhor.

8 Porque ele é como a árvore

plantada junto às águas,

que estende as suas raízes

para o ribeiro

e não receia quando vem o calor,

porque as suas folhas

permanecem verdes;

e, no ano da seca, não se perturba,

nem deixa de dar fruto."

9 "Enganoso é o coração,

mais do que todas as coisas,

e desesperadamente corrupto.

Quem poderá entendê-lo?

10 Eu, o Senhor, sondo o coração.

Eu provo os pensamentos,

para dar a cada um

segundo os seus caminhos,

segundo o fruto das suas ações."

11 Como a perdiz que choca ovos

que não pôs,

assim é aquele que ajunta riquezas

desonestamente;

no meio da vida ficará sem elas

e no seu fim passará por tolo.

12 Um trono de glória enaltecido

desde o princípio

é o lugar do nosso santuário.

13 Ó Senhor, Esperança de Israel!

Todos aqueles que te abandonam

serão envergonhados;

o nome dos que se afastam de ti

será escrito no chão,

porque abandonam o Senhor,

a fonte das águas vivas.

14 Cura-me, Senhor, e serei curado;

salva-me, e serei salvo,

porque tu és o meu louvor.

15 Eis que eles me dizem:

"Onde está a palavra do Senhor?

Que se cumpra!"

16 Mas eu não me recusei

a ser pastor, seguindo-te.

Também não desejei

o dia da aflição, tu o sabes.

O que saiu dos meus lábios

está no teu conhecimento.

17 Não sejas para mim

motivo de terror;

tu és o meu refúgio

no dia da calamidade.

18 Que sejam envergonhados

os que me perseguem,

e não seja eu envergonhado;

assombrem-se eles,

e não me assombre eu.

Traze sobre eles

o dia da calamidade

e destrói-os

com dobrada destruição.

19 Assim me disse o Senhor:

— Vá e fique junto ao Portão do Povo, pelo qual entram e saem os reis de Judá; depois, vá também a todos os outros portões de Jerusalém, 20 e diga a todos: "Escutem a palavra do Senhor, vocês, reis de Judá, e todo o Judá, e todos os moradores de Jerusalém que entram por estes portões. 21 Assim diz o Senhor: Para o próprio bem de vocês, tenham o cuidado de não levar cargas no dia de sábado, nem de introduzi-las em Jerusalém pelos portões. 22 Não saiam de casa carregando objetos no dia do sábado, nem façam trabalho algum. Pelo contrário, santifiquem o dia de sábado, como ordenei aos seus pais. 23 Mas eles não me deram ouvidos, nem atenderam; pelo contrário, foram teimosos, e não quiseram ouvir nem aceitar a disciplina. 24 Se de fato me ouvirem, diz o Senhor, não introduzindo cargas pelos portões desta cidade no dia de sábado; se santificarem o dia de sábado, não fazendo nele trabalho algum, 25 então pelos portões desta cidade entrarão reis e príncipes, que se assentarão no trono de Davi, andando em carros e montados em cavalos, eles e os seus príncipes, o povo de Judá e os moradores de Jerusalém; e esta cidade será para sempre habitada. 26 Virão das cidades de Judá e dos arredores de Jerusalém, da terra de Benjamim, da Sefelá, das montanhas e do Sul, trazendo holocaustos, sacrifícios, ofertas de cereais e incenso, oferecendo igualmente sacrifícios de ações de graças na Casa do Senhor. 27 Mas, se não me ouvirem, e, por isso, não santificarem o dia de sábado, e carregarem alguma carga, quando entrarem pelos portões de Jerusalém no dia de sábado, então porei fogo nesses portões. O fogo queimará os palácios de Jerusalém e não se apagará."
