1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD to me: Make thee bands and bars, and put them upon thy neck; 3 and send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah; 4 and give them a charge unto their masters; saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Thus shall ye say unto your masters; 5 I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm; and I give it unto whom it seemeth right unto me. 6 And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field also have I given him to serve him. 7 And all the nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the time of his own land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him. 8 And it shall come to pass, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand. 9 But as for you, hearken ye not to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your soothsayers, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: 10 for they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out and ye should perish. 11 But the nation that shall bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, that nation will I let remain in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein. 12 And I spake to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live. 13 Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon? 14 And hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you. 15 For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, but they prophesy falsely in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you. 16 Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD: Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’S house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you. 17 Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city become a desolation? 18 But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon. 19 For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels, that are left in this city, 20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem; 21 yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem: 22 They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be, until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.

1 No princípio do reinado de Zedequias, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, veio da parte do Senhor esta palavra a Jeremias: 2 Assim me disse o Senhor:

— Faça cangas com tiras de couro e canzis e coloque-as no seu pescoço. 3 Por meio dos mensageiros que vieram a Jerusalém para se encontrar com Zedequias, rei de Judá, envie essas cangas ao rei de Edom, ao rei de Moabe, ao rei dos filhos de Amom, ao rei de Tiro e ao rei de Sidom. 4 Ordene-lhes que digam aos seus senhores: Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel:

5 — "Eu fiz a terra, os seres humanos e os animais que estão sobre a face da terra, com o meu grande poder e com o meu braço estendido, e a dou a quem eu quiser. 6 Agora eu entreguei todas estas terras nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, meu servo. Até os animais selvagens eu entreguei a ele, para que o sirvam. 7 Todas as nações servirão a ele, a seu filho e ao filho de seu filho, até que também chegue a vez da sua própria terra, quando muitas nações e grandes reis o fizerem seu escravo."

8 — "Se alguma nação ou reino não servir Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e não puser o pescoço debaixo do jugo do rei da Babilônia, então castigarei essa nação com espada, com fome e com peste, diz o Senhor, até que eu a destrua completamente por meio de Nabucodonosor. 9 Quanto a vocês, não deem ouvidos aos seus profetas, aos seus adivinhos, aos seus sonhadores, aos seus agoureiros e aos seus encantadores, que dizem que vocês não devem servir o rei da Babilônia. 10 Porque eles profetizam mentiras para que vocês sejam mandados para longe da sua terra, e para que vocês sejam expulsos por mim e destruídos. 11 Mas a nação que colocar o pescoço sob o jugo do rei da Babilônia e o servir, eu a deixarei na sua terra, para cultivá-la e morar nela", diz o Senhor.

12 Também a Zedequias, rei de Judá, eu falei nos mesmos termos, dizendo:

— Coloquem o pescoço sob o jugo do rei da Babilônia, sirvam a ele e ao seu povo, e vocês viverão. 13 Por que é que você e o seu povo morreriam à espada, de fome e de peste, como o Senhor disse que acontecerá com a nação que não servir o rei da Babilônia? 14 Não deem ouvidos às palavras dos profetas que dizem que vocês não devem servir o rei da Babilônia. É mentira o que eles profetizam. 15 Porque não os enviei, diz o Senhor, e profetizam falsamente em meu nome, para que vocês sejam expulsos por mim e destruídos, vocês e eles que profetizam essas coisas.

16 Também falei aos sacerdotes e a todo este povo, dizendo:

— Assim diz o Senhor: "Não deem ouvidos às palavras dos seus profetas que dizem que em breve os utensílios da Casa do Senhor serão trazidos de volta da Babilônia. É mentira o que eles profetizam. 17 Não deem ouvidos ao que eles dizem; sirvam o rei da Babilônia e vocês viverão. Por que fazer com que esta cidade se torne um montão de ruínas? 18 Porém, se eles são profetas, e se a palavra do Senhor está com eles, que orem ao Senhor dos Exércitos, para que os utensílios que ficaram na Casa do Senhor, e no palácio do rei de Judá, e em Jerusalém não sejam levados para a Babilônia."

19 — Porque assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos a respeito das colunas, do mar de fundição, dos suportes e dos outros utensílios que ficaram na cidade, 20 os quais Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, não levou, quando deportou, de Jerusalém para a Babilônia, Jeconias, filho de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, assim como todos os nobres de Judá e de Jerusalém; 21 sim, isto diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel, a respeito dos utensílios que ficaram na Casa do Senhor, e no palácio do rei de Judá, e em Jerusalém: 22 "Serão levados para a Babilônia, onde ficarão até o dia em que eu atentar para eles, diz o Senhor; então farei com que sejam trazidos e devolvidos a este lugar."
