1 Woe unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD. 2 Therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, against the shepherds that feed my people: Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them; behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD. 3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and multiply. 4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking, saith the LORD. 5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute judgment and justice in the land. 6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The LORD is our righteousness. 7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, As the LORD liveth, which brought up the Children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; 8 but, As the LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land. 9 Concerning the prophets. Mine heart within me is broken, all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome; because of the LORD, and because of his holy words. 10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up; and their course is evil, and their force is not right. 11 for both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD. 12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD. 13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied by Baal, and caused my people Israel to err. 14 In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen an horrible thing; they commit adultery, and walk in lies, and they strengthen the hands of evil-doers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them become unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. 15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land. 16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you; they teach you vanity: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD. 17 They say continually unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and unto every one that walketh in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil shall come upon you. 18 For who hath stood in the council of the LORD, that he should perceive and hear his word? who hath marked my word, and heard it? 19 Behold, the tempest of the LORD, even his fury, is gone forth, yea, a whirling tempest: it shall burst upon the head of the wicked. 20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall understand it perfectly. 21 I sent not these prophets, yet they ran: I spake not unto them, yet they prophesied. 22 But if they had stood in my council, then had they caused my people to hear my words, and had turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. 23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. 25 I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies; even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart? 27 which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers forgat my name for Baal. 28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith the LORD. 29 Is not my word like as fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? 30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. 32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy lying dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting: yet I sent them not, nor commanded them; neither shall they profit this people at all, saith the LORD. 33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? then shalt thou say unto them, What burden! I will cast you off, saith the LORD. 34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house. 35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken? 36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s own word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God. 37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken? 38 But if ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD: Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD; 39 therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from my presence: 40 and I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame which shall not be forgotten.

1 — Ai dos pastores que destroem e dispersam as ovelhas do meu pasto! — diz o Senhor. 2 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, a respeito dos pastores que apascentam o meu povo: "Vocês dispersaram as minhas ovelhas e as afugentaram, e não cuidaram delas. Mas eu tratarei de castigar vocês por causa das maldades que praticaram, diz o Senhor. 3 Eu mesmo recolherei o remanescente das minhas ovelhas, de todas as terras para onde as tiver dispersado, e as farei voltar aos seus apriscos; serão fecundas e se multiplicarão. 4 Porei sobre elas pastores que as apascentem, e elas jamais terão medo, nem ficarão assustadas; nem uma delas faltará, diz o Senhor."

5 — Eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que levantarei a Davi um Renovo justo; e, como rei que é, reinará, agirá com sabedoria e executará o juízo e a justiça na terra. 6 Nos seus dias, Judá será salvo, e Israel habitará seguro. E este será o nome pelo qual será chamado: "Senhor, Justiça Nossa".

7 — Portanto, eis que vêm dias, diz o Senhor, em que nunca mais dirão: "Tão certo como vive o Senhor, que tirou os filhos de Israel da terra do Egito", 8 mas: "Tão certo como vive o Senhor, que tirou e trouxe a descendência da casa de Israel da terra do Norte e de todas as terras para onde os tinha dispersado". E habitarão na sua própria terra.

9 A respeito dos profetas:

"O meu coração está partido

dentro de mim.

Todos os meus ossos estremecem.

Sou como um homem embriagado

e como um homem

vencido pelo vinho,

por causa do Senhor

e por causa

das suas santas palavras.

10 Porque a terra

está cheia de adúlteros

e chora por causa

da maldição divina;

os pastos do deserto estão secos.

Porque o modo de vida deles

é mau,

e seu uso da força não é reto."

11 "Pois tanto o profeta

como o sacerdote

estão contaminados;

até na minha casa

achei a sua maldade",

diz o Senhor.

12 "Portanto, o caminho deles será

como lugares escorregadios

na escuridão,

para a qual serão empurrados

e na qual cairão.

Porque trarei sobre eles

a calamidade,

o ano da sua punição",

diz o Senhor.

13 "Nos profetas de Samaria

vi algo que causa desgosto:

profetizaram por Baal

e fizeram o meu povo de Israel

andar errante.

14 Mas nos profetas de Jerusalém

vejo coisa horrenda:

cometem adultério,

andam com falsidade

e fortalecem as mãos

dos malfeitores,

para que não se convertam

da sua maldade.

Para mim, todos eles se tornaram

como Sodoma,

e os moradores de Jerusalém,

como Gomorra.

15 Portanto, assim diz

o Senhor dos Exércitos

a respeito dos profetas:

Eis que os alimentarei com absinto

e lhes darei de beber

água envenenada;

porque dos profetas de Jerusalém

se derramou a impiedade

sobre toda a terra."

16 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:

— Não deem ouvidos às palavras dos profetas que profetizam entre vocês e que os enchem de falsas esperanças; falam as visões do seu coração, não o que vem da boca do Senhor. 17 Dizem continuamente aos que me desprezam: "O Senhor disse: Vocês terão paz"; e a todos os que andam segundo a dureza do seu coração dizem: "Nenhum mal lhes sobrevirá."

18 Porque quem esteve

no conselho do Senhor,

e viu, e ouviu a sua palavra?

Quem esteve atento à sua palavra

e a ouviu?

19 Eis a tempestade do Senhor!

O furor saiu, e um vendaval passou

sobre a cabeça dos ímpios.

20 A ira do Senhor não se desviará

até que ele execute e cumpra

os desígnios do seu coração.

Nos últimos dias, vocês entenderão isso

claramente.

21 "Não mandei esses profetas,

mas eles foram correndo;

não lhes falei,

mas eles profetizaram.

22 Mas, se tivessem estado

no meu conselho,

teriam anunciado

as minhas palavras ao meu povo

e o teriam feito voltar

do seu mau caminho

e da maldade das suas ações."

23 — Sou eu Deus apenas de perto, diz o Senhor, e não também Deus de longe? 24 Pode alguém se ocultar em esconderijos, de modo que eu não o veja? — diz o Senhor. Não encho eu os céus e a terra? — diz o Senhor. 25 Tenho ouvido o que dizem aqueles profetas, proclamando mentiras em meu nome, dizendo: "Sonhei, sonhei." 26 Até quando acontecerá isso no coração dos profetas que proclamam mentiras, que proclamam só o engano do próprio coração? 27 Até quando tentarão fazer com que o meu povo se esqueça do meu nome por meio dos sonhos que contam uns aos outros, assim como os pais deles se esqueceram do meu nome, por causa de Baal? 28 O profeta que tem um sonho conte-o como um simples sonho. Mas aquele em quem está a minha palavra fale a minha palavra com verdade. O que é que a palha tem a ver com o trigo? — diz o Senhor. 29 Não é a minha palavra como fogo, diz o Senhor, e como um martelo que despedaça a rocha? 30 Portanto, eis que eu sou contra esses profetas, diz o Senhor, que roubam as minhas palavras uns dos outros. 31 Eis que eu sou contra esses profetas, diz o Senhor, que pregam a sua própria palavra e afirmam: "Ele disse." 32 Eis que eu sou contra os que profetizam sonhos mentirosos, diz o Senhor, e os contam, e com as suas mentiras e leviandades fazem o meu povo andar errante. Eu não os enviei, nem lhes dei ordem alguma; e eles não trazem nenhum proveito a este povo, diz o Senhor.

33 — Quando, pois, este povo ou um profeta ou um sacerdote perguntar a você, Jeremias: "Qual é a sentença pesada do Senhor?", responda: "Vocês são o peso, e eu os lançarei fora", diz o Senhor. 34 E, se um profeta, um sacerdote, ou alguém do povo disser: "Sentença pesada do Senhor", castigarei esse homem e a sua casa. 35 Em vez disso, cada um deveria perguntar ao seu companheiro e ao seu irmão: "O que o Senhor respondeu? O que foi que o Senhor falou?" 36 Mas nunca mais vocês devem fazer menção das palavras "sentença pesada do Senhor", pois o que se tornará um peso para alguém é a própria palavra que ele falou. Porque vocês torcem as palavras do Deus vivo, do Senhor dos Exércitos, o nosso Deus. 37 O que você deve perguntar a um profeta é: "O que foi que o Senhor lhe respondeu? O que foi que o Senhor falou?" 38 Mas, porque vocês dizem: "Sentença pesada do Senhor", assim diz o Senhor: Porque vocês continuam a usar as palavras "sentença pesada do Senhor", quando eu lhes havia proibido de fazer isso, 39 eu os levantarei e os lançarei fora da minha presença, tanto vocês como a cidade que dei a vocês e aos seus pais. 40 Porei sobre vocês perpétuo desprezo e eterna vergonha, que jamais serão esquecidos.
