Ka Kauwhau a Erihu mō te Tika o te Atua

1 I kōrero anō hoki a Erihu, i mea:

2 "Whakarongo ki āku kupu, e te hunga whakaaro nui;

3 E whakamātau ana hoki te taringa i te kupu,

e pērā ana me tā te māngai ki te reka o te kai.

4 Ko tā tātou e whiriwhiri ai mā tātou ko te mea tika;

kia mōhiotia hoki e tātou, e tēnei, e tēnei, ko te aha te mea pai.

5 "Kua mea nei hoki a Hopa, ‘He tika tāku,

ā, kua whakapeaua kētia e te Atua te whakawā mōku;

6 ahakoa kei ahau te tika ka kīia ahau he tangata teka;

e kore e mahu tōku werohanga, ahakoa kāhore ōku hē.’

7 Ko wai te tangata e rite ki a Hopa,

me te mea he wai te tāwai e inumia ana e ia?

8 Kua uru nei ki te tira o ngā kaimahi i te hē,

ā, e haere tahi ana me ngā tāngata kikino.

9 Kua mea hoki ia, ‘Kāhore he painga ki te tangata

ki te āhuareka atu ia ki te Atua.’

10 "Nō reira whakarongo mai ki ahau, e ngā tāngata ngākau mōhio;

e kore rawa te Atua e mahi i te kino;

e kore, rawa hoki te Kaha Rawa e mahi i te hē.

11 Ka utua hoki e ia te tangata mō tāna mahi,

ka rite hoki ki tō te tangata ara ngā mea e whakawhiwhia e ia ki a ia.

12 Tika rawa, e kore te Atua e kino,

e kore anō hoki te Kaha Rawa e whakaputa kē i te whakawā.

13 Nā wai ia i mea hei kaitirotiro mō te whenua?

kia whai taringa mai ki te reo o āku kupu.

17 E whai kīngitanga rānei tētahi kotahi e kino ana ki te tika?

E whakakino rānei koe ki te tangata tika, kaha hoki?

18 E tau ana rānei te mea atu ki te kīngi, ‘He weriweri koe’?

ki ngā rangatira rānei, ‘He kino koutou’?

19 Kia iti rawa iho ki a ia e kore nei e whakapai ki te kanohi o ngā rangatira,

e kore nei e hira ake tōna pai ki te hunga whai rawa i ngā rawakore?

21 "Kei runga hoki i ngā ara o te tangata ōna kanohi,

ā, kitea ana e ia ōna hīkoinga katoa.

22 Kāhore he pōuri, kāhore he ātārangi o te mate

e piri ai ngā kaimahi i te kino.

23 E kore hoki e nui atu i te tika te mea e whakawahā e ia ki te tangata,

e haere ai ia ki te aroaro o te Atua ki te whakawā.

24 Ka wāwāhia e ia ngā tāngata nunui, tē mōhiotia ngā ara,

25 Nā, e mōhio ana ia ki ā rātou mahi,

ā, hurihia ake rātou e ia i te pō, ā, mongamonga noa rātou.

26 He hunga kino rātou, pākia iho e ia i te tirohanga a te tangata;

27 mō rātou i tahuri kē i te whai i a ia,

kīhai hoki i whakaaro ki tētahi o ōna ara –

28 nā rātou hoki i puta ai te tangi a te rawakore ki a ia,

ā, rongo ana ia ki te tangi a te hunga e tūkinotia ana.

29 Ki te meinga e ia kia āta noho, ko wai hei whakararuraru?

Ā, ki te hunā e ia tōna kanohi, ko wai e kite i a ia?

Ahakoa i meatia ki te iwi, ki te tangata rānei, rite tonu.

30 Kore ake te whakapono kore e whai kīngitanga,

kore ake te iwi e māhangatia.

31 "Kua mea atu rānei ki te Atua,

‘Kua pēhia ahau e te whiu;

e kore ahau e mahi i te hē ā muri nei?

32 Ko te mea kīhai i kitea e ahau māu e whakaatu mai ki ahau;

ki te mea i mahi ahau i te hē, ka mutu tāku.’

33 Kia rite rānei tāna utu ki tāu e mea ai,

i whakakāhoretia ai e koe?

Māu te whiriwhiri, kāhore māku;

nā, māu e kōrero mai tāu i mōhio ai.

34 "Ka kōrero mai ngā tāngata ngākau mahara ki ahau,

āe rā, ngā tāngata whakaaro nui e whakarongo ana ki ahau,

35 ‘Kāhore he mātauranga o Hopa i a ia i kōrero rā,

kāhore hoki he mahara i roto i āna kupu.’

36 He pai me i whakamātauria a Hopa ā te mutunga rā anō,

mō āna kupu i whakahokia mai nei e ia,

he mea i rite ki ā ngā tāngata kikino.

37 E tāpiritia ana hoki e ia te tutū ki runga ki tōna hara,

kei te pakipaki ia i ōna ringa i waenganui i a tātou,

ā, whakanuia ana e ia āna kupu ki te Atua."

1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Hear my words, ye wise men;

And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 For the ear trieth words,

As the palate tasteth food.

4 Let us choose for us that which is right:

Let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 For Job hath said, I am righteous,

And God hath taken away my right:

6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar;

My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 What man is like Job,

Who drinketh up scoffing like water,

8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity,

And walketh with wicked men?

9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing

That he should delight himself with God.

10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding:

Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,

And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 For the work of a man will he render unto him,

And cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly,

Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

13 Who gave him a charge over the earth?

Or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 If he set his heart upon himself,

If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 All flesh shall perish together,

And man shall turn again unto dust.

16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this:

Hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Shall even one that hateth justice govern?

And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?—

18 Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile,

Or to nobles, Ye are wicked;

19 That respecteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;

For they all are the work of his hands.

20 In a moment they die, even at midnight;

The people are shaken and pass away,

And the mighty are taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,

And he seeth all his goings.

22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For he needeth not further to consider a man,

That he should go before God in judgment.

24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,

And setteth others in their stead.

25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works;

And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 He striketh them as wicked men

In the open sight of others;

27 Because they turned aside from following him,

And would not have regard in any of his ways:

28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him,

And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

29 When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?

And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?

Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:

30 That the godless man reign not,

That there be none to ensnare the people.

31 For hath any said unto God,

I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32 That which I see not teach thou me:

If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

33 Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it?

For thou must choose, and not I:

Therefore speak what thou knowest.

34 Men of understanding will say unto me,

Yea, every wise man that heareth me:

35 Job speaketh without knowledge,

And his words are without wisdom.

36 Would that Job were tried unto the end,

Because of his answering like wicked men.

37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin;

He clappeth his hands among us,

And multiplieth his words against God.
