Ka Whakahoea e Hopa te Tohutohu a Pirirara

1 Anō rā ko Hopa, i mea ia:

2 "He hāpai pēhea tāu i te kahakore?

He whakaora pēhea tāu i te ringa ngoikore?

3 Ka tae tāu whakatakoto whakaaro mā te whakaarokore,

te nui o tāu whakaatu tikanga!

4 I puaki ki a wai āu kupu?

Nō wai te wairua i puta mai rā i a koe?"

Ka Haere Tonu te Kōrero o Pirirara

5 "E wiri ana ngā tūpāpaku i raro i te wai,

me ngā mea anō e noho ana i reira.

6 E takoto kau ana te rēinga i tōna aroaro,

kāhore hoki he hīpoki mō te whakangaro.

7 E horahia atu ana e ia te raki ki runga ki te wāhi takoto kau,

whakairihia ana e ia te whenua ki runga ki te kāhore noa iho.

8 E takaia ana e ia ngā wai ki roto ki āna kapua mātotoru;

ā, kāhore te kapua e pakaru i raro i a rātou.

9 E kaiponuhia ana e ia a mua o tōna torōna,

horahia ana e ia tāna kapua ki runga.

10 He mea karapoti nāna ngā wai, rohe rawa,

ā tae noa ki te mutunga mai o te mārama me te pōuri.

11 Wiri ana ngā pou o te rangi,

mīharo ana ki tāna whakatūpehupehu.

12 Ko tōna kaha hei whakakorikori i te moana,

marū ana te whakakake i tōna mātauranga.

13 Nā tōna wairua i whakapaipai ngā rangi;

nā tōna ringa i wero te nākahi tere.

14 Nā, he pito ēnei nō ōna ara;

anō te iti o te wāhi ōna e rangona ana!

Ko te whatitiri ia o tōna kaha, ko wai ka mātau?"

1 Then Job answered and said,

2 How hast thou helped him that is without power!

How hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength!

3 How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom,

And plentifully declared sound knowledge!

4 To whom hast thou uttered words?

And whose spirit came forth from thee?

5 They that are deceased tremble

Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof.

6 Sheol is naked before God,

And Abaddon hath no covering.

7 He stretcheth out the north over empty space,

And hangeth the earth upon nothing.

8 He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds;

And the cloud is not rent under them.

9 He incloseth the face of his throne,

And spreadeth his cloud upon it.

10 He hath described a boundary upon the face of the waters,

Unto the confines of light and darkness.

11 The pillars of heaven tremble

And are astonished at his rebuke.

12 He stirreth up the sea with his power,

And by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab.

13 By his Spirit the heavens are garnished;

His hand hath pierced the swift serpent.

14 Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways:

And how small a whisper do we hear of him!

But the thunder of his power who can understand?
