1 O rei Ezequias enviou uma mensagem a todo o Israel e Judá e escreveu cartas para o povo de Efraim e Manassés. Convidou todos a virem ao templo do Senhor em Jerusalém para celebrar a Páscoa do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. 2 O rei, seus oficiais e toda a comunidade de Jerusalém decidiram celebrar a Páscoa um mês depois da data estabelecida. 3 Não conseguiram celebrá-la na data prescrita, porque não havia como purificar sacerdotes em número suficiente até esse dia, e o povo ainda não tinha se reunido em Jerusalém.

4 Esse plano para celebrar a Páscoa pareceu bom ao rei e a toda a comunidade. 5 Assim, fizeram uma proclamação em todo o Israel, desde Berseba, ao sul, até Dã, ao norte, convidando todos a virem a Jerusalém para celebrar a Páscoa do Senhor, o Deus de Israel. Fazia tempo que essa festa não era celebrada por um grande número de pessoas, como a lei exigia.

6 Por ordem do rei, mensageiros foram enviados a todo o Israel e Judá. Levavam cartas que diziam:

"Ó israelitas, voltem para o Senhor, o Deus de Abraão, Isaque e Israel, para que ele se volte para nós, os poucos que sobrevivemos à conquista pelos reis assírios. 7 Não sejam como seus antepassados e parentes que foram infiéis ao Senhor, o Deus de seus antepassados, e se tornaram objeto de desprezo, como vocês mesmos podem ver. 8 Não sejam teimosos, como eles foram, mas submetam-se ao Senhor. Venham a este templo que ele consagrou para sempre. Adorem o Senhor, seu Deus, para que sua ira ardente se desvie de vocês.

9 "Pois, se voltarem para o Senhor, seus parentes e seus filhos serão tratados com bondade por aqueles que os capturaram e voltarão a esta terra. Pois o Senhor, seu Deus, é cheio de graça e compaixão. Não os rejeitará se voltarem para ele".

10 Os mensageiros foram de cidade em cidade em Efraim e Manassés e até o território de Zebulom, mas a maioria do povo riu e zombou deles. 11 Contudo, alguns de Aser, Manassés e Zebulom se humilharam e vieram a Jerusalém.

12 Ao mesmo tempo, a mão de Deus estava sobre o povo da terra de Judá, dando-lhes um só coração para obedecer às ordens do rei e de seus oficiais, conforme a palavra do Senhor. 13 Assim, uma grande multidão se reuniu em Jerusalém no segundo mês, para comemorar a Festa dos Pães sem Fermento. 14 Começaram a trabalhar e removeram os santuários idólatras de Jerusalém. Também removeram todos os altares de incenso e os jogaram no vale de Cedrom.

15 No décimo quarto dia do segundo mês, o povo abateu o cordeiro pascal. Isso deixou os sacerdotes e levitas envergonhados, por isso se purificaram e trouxeram holocaustos ao templo do Senhor. 16 Tomaram seus lugares no templo, conforme a instrução da lei de Moisés, homem de Deus. Os levitas trouxeram sangue dos sacrifícios para os sacerdotes, que o aspergiram sobre o altar.

17 Visto que muitas pessoas não haviam se purificado, os levitas tiveram de abater para elas o cordeiro pascal, a fim de consagrá-las ao Senhor. 18 A maioria dos que vieram de Efraim, Manassés, Issacar e Zebulom não havia se purificado. Mas o rei Ezequias orou por eles e foi permitido que comessem a refeição pascal, embora isso fosse contrário aos requisitos da lei. Pois Ezequias orou: "Que o Senhor, que é bondoso, perdoe 19 aqueles que resolveram buscar o Senhor, o Deus de seus antepassados, mesmo que não estejam devidamente purificados conforme os padrões do santuário". 20 E o Senhor ouviu a oração de Ezequias e perdoou o povo.

21 Então os israelitas que estavam em Jerusalém comemoraram com grande alegria durante sete dias a Festa dos Pães sem Fermento. A cada dia, os levitas e os sacerdotes louvavam o Senhor com instrumentos ressoantes. 22 Ezequias elogiou todos os levitas pela aptidão que demonstraram no serviço ao Senhor. A celebração prosseguiu por sete dias. Apresentaram ofertas de paz, e o povo agradeceu ao Senhor, o Deus de seus antepassados.

23 Toda a comunidade resolveu continuar com a festa por mais sete dias, de modo que celebraram com alegria por mais uma semana. 24 Ezequias, rei de Judá, deu à comunidade mil novilhos e sete mil ovelhas para as ofertas, e os oficiais deram mil novilhos e dez mil ovelhas e cabras. Nesse meio-tempo, muitos outros sacerdotes se purificaram.

25 Toda a comunidade de Judá se alegrou, incluindo os sacerdotes, os levitas, todos que vieram da terra de Israel, os estrangeiros residentes em Israel que vieram para a festa e todos que moravam em Judá. 26 Houve grande alegria em Jerusalém, pois a cidade não via uma celebração como essa desde os dias de Salomão, filho do rei Davi.

27 Então os sacerdotes e os levitas se levantaram e abençoaram o povo, e Deus, de sua santa habitação nos céus, ouviu sua oração.

1 Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel. 2 For the king had taken counsel with his princes and all the assembly in Jerusalem to keep the Passover in the second month. 3 For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves in sufficient number, and the people had not gathered themselves together to Jerusalem. 4 The thing was right in the eyes of the king and of all the assembly. 5 So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the Passover to Yahweh, the God of Israel, at Jerusalem, for they had not kept it in great numbers in the way it is written.

6 So the couriers went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, according to the commandment of the king, saying, "You children of Israel, turn again to Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, that he may return to the remnant of you that have escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. 7 Don’t be like your fathers and like your brothers, who trespassed against Yahweh, the God of their fathers, so that he gave them up to desolation, as you see. 8 Now don’t be stiff-necked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves to Yahweh, and enter into his sanctuary, which he has sanctified forever, and serve Yahweh your God, that his fierce anger may turn away from you. 9 For if you turn again to Yahweh, your brothers and your children will find compassion with those who led them captive, and will come again into this land, because Yahweh your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you if you return to him."

10 So the couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, even to Zebulun, but people ridiculed them and mocked them. 11 Nevertheless some men of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem. 12 Also the hand of God came on Judah to give them one heart, to do the commandment of the king and of the princes by Yahweh’s word.

13 Many people assembled at Jerusalem to keep the feast of unleavened bread in the second month, a very great assembly. 14 They arose and took away the altars that were in Jerusalem, and they took away all the altars for incense and threw them into the brook Kidron. 15 Then they killed the Passover on the fourteenth day of the second month. The priests and the Levites were ashamed, and sanctified themselves, and brought burnt offerings into Yahweh’s house. 16 They stood in their place after their order, according to the law of Moses the man of God. The priests sprinkled the blood which they received of the hand of the Levites. 17 For there were many in the assembly who had not sanctified themselves; therefore the Levites were in charge of killing the Passovers for everyone who was not clean, to sanctify them to Yahweh. 18 For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet they ate the Passover other than the way it is written. For Hezekiah had prayed for them, saying, "May the good Yahweh pardon everyone 19 who sets his heart to seek God, Yahweh, the God of his fathers, even if they aren’t clean according to the purification of the sanctuary."

20 Yahweh listened to Hezekiah, and healed the people. 21 The children of Israel who were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness. The Levites and the priests praised Yahweh day by day, singing with loud instruments to Yahweh. 22 Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of Yahweh. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings and making confession to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

23 The whole assembly took counsel to keep another seven days, and they kept another seven days with gladness. 24 For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the assembly for offerings one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the assembly a thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep; and a great number of priests sanctified themselves. 25 All the assembly of Judah, with the priests and the Levites, and all the assembly who came out of Israel, and the foreigners who came out of the land of Israel and who lived in Judah, rejoiced. 26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was nothing like this in Jerusalem. 27 Then the Levitical priests arose and blessed the people. Their voice was heard, and their prayer came up to his holy habitation, even to heaven.
