1 Se alguém roubar um boi, ou uma ovelha, e depois o matar e vender, deverá pagar uma multa; no caso do boi, será cinco vezes o custo de um boi, ou cinco bois pelo boi roubado; para a ovelha será o quádruplo, quatro ovelhas pela roubada.2 Se o ladrão for morto ao assaltar uma casa, o que o matar não será culpado. No entanto se tal acontecer em pleno dia, o que matar deverá ser incriminado de assassínio m ladrão que vier a ser capturado terá de restituir tudo o que roubou. Se não puder fazê-lo será vendido para pagamento da sua dívida. Se for apanhado a roubar um boi, ou um burro, ou um carneiro vivos, terá de pagar uma multa equivalente ao dobro do preço dos animais.5 Se alguém soltar o seu animal e deliberadamente o deixar ir para o campo ou para a vinha doutra pessoa, terá de pagar uma indemnização ao outro, equivalente ao melhor da sua colheita.6 Se um campo tiver sido incendiado e o fogo acabar por queimar os molhos de trigo, a seara ou seja o que for do campo de um vizinho, o que fez a queimada terá de pagar tudo o que ardeu.7 Se alguém der dinheiro, ou bens, a guardar a uma outra pessoa e se esta última vier a ser roubada, o ladrão deverá pagar o dobro de tudo, no caso de ser apanhado. Se o ladrão não for encontrado, então aquele a quem os valores foram confiados terá de vir à presença de Deus para se determinar se foi ele próprio ou não o ladrão.9 Sempre que um animal, boi, jumento, carneiro, ou uma peça de vestuário, ou seja o que for, tiver perdido e o seu proprietário julgar que isso está na posse de uma outra pessoa, a qual negue a acusação, então ambas as partes terão de ir perante Deus, e aquele que Deus declarar deverá pagar ao outro o dobro.10 Se uma pessoa pedir a outra que lhe guarde o burro ou o boi ou o cordeiro ou outro qualquer animal, e este vier a morrer ou a ser ferido ou a fugir, sem que haja testemunhas que confirmem o sucedido, então o que se responsabilizou por ficar com o animal terá de jurar que não roubou e o primeiro deverá aceitar a sua palavra e não haverá lugar a nenhuma restituição ou multa. Mas se o animal tiver sido realmente roubado, deverá dar ao dono o seu preço. No caso do animal ter antes sido ferido por uma besta feroz, trará ao dono a carcaça ou os restos em testemunha do facto e não haverá lugar a pagamento algum.14 Se for pedido emprestado um animal, ou um objecto qualquer, que venha a ser ferido, morto, ou estragado, sem que o dono daquilo que foi emprestado estivesse presente, então este último terá a receber o equivalente àquilo que emprestou. No entanto se isso acontecer na presença do dono, não haverá necessidade de pagamento; a mesma decisão se aplicará se tiver sido antes alugado, porque a eventualidade de danos ou perdas já está incluida no contrato de aluguer.16 Se um homem seduzir uma rapariga virgem, ainda não comprometida com ninguém, e se deitar com ela, deverá certamente casar com ela, pagando aos pais o dote habitual. No entanto se o pai dela recusar de todo, então terá apenas de pagar o correspondente ao dote, como se casasse.18 Os feiticeiros terão de morrer.19 Quem tiver relações sexuais com animais com certeza deverá morrer.20 Quem oferecer sacrifícios a qualquer outro deus que não seja o Senhor terá de ser executado.21 Não deverão oprimir um estrangeiro, de nenhuma maneira. Lembrem-se de que foram também estrangeiros na terra do Egipto.22 Não explorarão nem viúvas nem órfãos. Se o fizerem de qualquer modo, e se eles clamarem pela minha ajuda, certamente lhes responderei. A minha cólera se inflamará contra vocês e serão mortos com as armas dos vossos inimigos, de tal forma que as vossas próprias mulheres se tornarão viúvas e os vossos filhos órfãos.25 Se emprestarem dinheiro a um vosso irmão hebreu necessitado, não o farão com interesse usurário. Se lhe ficaram com uma peça de roupa como penhor deverão devolver-lha à noite, porque provavelmente precisará dela para se agasalhar, e como poderá ir deitar-se sem ela? Se não lhe fizerem isso e ele clamar por mim, ouvi-lo-ei porque eu sou misericordioso.28 Não insultarão Deus. Não amaldiçoarão os que vos governam, os vossos juízes e os vossos chefes.29 Serão prontos em dar-me os primeiros frutos das vossas colheitas, assim como o que começar a correr dos vossos lagares.30 A cria que primeiro nascer aos vossos bois e cordeiros, dar-ma-ão ao oitavo dia, depois de a ter deixado com a mãe durante os sete primeiros dias de vida.31 E visto que vocês são um povo santo - um povo meu, especial - não comam nenhum animal que tenha sido atacado e morto por uma besta feroz. Deixem a carcaça para que os cães a comam.

1 If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.2 If a thief shall be found breaking through, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.3 If the sun shall have risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him: for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.4 If the theft shall be certainly found in his hand alive, whether an ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.5 If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field: of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard shall he make restitution.6 If fire shall break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field shall be consumed; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.7 If a man shall deliver to his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief shall be found, let him pay double.8 If the thief shall not be found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the judges, to see whether he hath put his hand to his neighbor's goods.9 For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his: the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and he whom the judges shall condemn, shall pay double to his neighbor.10 If a man shall deliver to his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast to keep; and it shall die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:11 Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand to his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept of it, and he shall not make restitution.12 And if it shall be stolen from him, he shall make restitution to the owner of it.13 If it shall be torn in pieces; then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.14 And if a man shall borrow aught of his neighbor, and it shall be hurt, or die, the owner of it being not with it, he shall surely make it good.15 But if the owner of it shall be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be a hired thing, it came for his hire.16 And if a man shall entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.17 If her father shall utterly refuse to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dower of virgins.18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.19 Whoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.20 He that sacrificeth to any god, save to the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.21 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.22 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.23 If thou shalt afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry:24 And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.25 If thou shalt lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as a usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.26 If thou shalt at all take thy neighbor's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it to him by the setting of the sun.27 For that is his only covering, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth to me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.29 Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the first-born of thy sons shalt thou give to me.30 Likewise shalt thou do with thy oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it to me.31 And ye shall be holy men to me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
