1 Then moved they on from Elim, and all the assembly of the sons of Israel entered into the desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, by their coming forth out of the land of Egypt.2 Then did all the assembly of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the desert;3 and the sons of Israel said unto themOh that we had died by the hand of Yahweh, in the land of Egypt, when we remained by the pot of flesh, when we did eat bread to the full,for ye have brought us forth into this desert, to cause all this multitude to die by famine.4 Then said Yahweh unto Moses, Behold me! ruining down for you bread out of heaven,and the people shall go out and gather the portion for a day, on its day, that I may prove them whether they will walk in my law, or not.5 And it shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall settle what they shall bring in,and it shall be twice as much as they gather day by day.6 So Moses and Aaron said unto all the sons of Israel,At eventide, then shall ye know that it was, Yahweh, who brought you forth, out of the land of Egypt;7 and, in the morning, then shall ye see the glory of Yahweh, in that he hath heard your murmurings against Yahweh,what then are, we, that ye should murmur against, us?8 And Moses saidIn that Yahweh giveth you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning, to the full, in that Yahweh heareth your murmurings wherewith ye are murmuring against him, what then are, we? Not against us, do ye murmur but against Yahweh.9 And Moses said unto Aaron, Say unto all the assembly of the sons of Israel, Draw near, before Yahweh,for he hath heard your murmurings.10 And it came to pass, when Aaron spake unto all the assembly of the sons of Israel, then turned they towards the desert,and lo! the glory of Yahweh, had appeared in the cloud,11 Then spake Yahweh unto Mosessaying,12 I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel,speak unto them, sayingBetween the two evenings, shall ye eat flesh, and in the morning, shall ye be filled with bread,so shall ye know that I Yahweh am your God.13 And it came to pass, in the evening, that there came up quail, and covered the camp,and in the morning was the outpouring of dew, round about the camp;14 and when the outpouring of dew went up, then lo! on the face of the desert, a thin flake, thin as hoar-frost on the earth,15 And when the sons of Israel saw it they said one to anotherWhat is that? For they knew not what "that" was. Then said Moses unto them, "That" is the bread which Yahweh hath given you to eat.16 This, is the thing which Yahweh hath commanded, Gather ye thereof, each man what he needeth for eating,an omer a head, by the number of your souls, each manfor them who are in his tent, shall ye take.17 And the sons of Israel did so,and gathered, less;18 and when they measured it with the omer, he who had gathered more had nothing over, and he who had gathered less had no lack: each man what he needed for eating, did they gather.19 And Moses said unto them,Let, no man leave thereof, until morning.20 But they hearkened not unto Moses, but certain men left thereof until morning, and it swarmed with worms and become loathsome,and Moses was wroth with them.21 Thus then they gathered it morning by morning, each man what he needed for eating, and as soon as the sun waxed hot, so soon it melted.22 And it came to pass on the sixth day, that they gathered food twice as much, two omers for each one,so all the princes of the assembly came in, and told Moses.23 And he said unto themThat is what Yahweh spake. The observance of a holy sabbath to Yahweh, is to-morrow,what ye would bake, bake and what ye would boil, boil, and all that is left over, put by you to keep until the morning.24 So they put it by until the morning, as Moses had commanded,and it gave no unpleasant odour, neither was there a worm, therein.25 Then said MosesEat ye it to-day, for a sabbath, is to-day, unto Yahweh,to-day, ye shall not find it in the field.26 Six days, shall ye gather it,but on the seventh day, a sabbath, it shall not be therein.27 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that there went forth some of the people to gather,but they found not.28 Then said Yahweh unto Moses,How long have ye refused to keep my commandments and my laws?29 See because Yahweh hath given you the sabbath, for this cause, is, he, giving you on the sixth day, food for two days,abide ye every man in his place, let no man go forth from his dwelling, on the seventh day,30 So the people rested on the seventh day.31 And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna,and the same, was like coriander seed white, and the taste thereof, like flat-cake with honey,32 And Moses saidThis, is the thing which Yahweh hath commanded, Fill an omer therefrom as a thing to be preserved to your generations,that they may see the bread wherewith I fed you in the desert, when I brought you forth out of the land of Egypt.33 So Moses said unto AaronTake a single basket, and put therein an omer-full of manna,and set it down before Yahweh, as a thing to be preserved to your generations.34 As Yahweh gave command unto Moses, so did Aaron set it down before the testimony, as a thing to be preserved,35 And, the sons of Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they entered into the land wherein they were to dwell,the manna, they did eat until they entered into the bounds of the land of Canaan.36 Now, an omer, is, the tenth of the ephah.

1 E, partidos de Elim, toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel veio ao deserto de Sim, que está entre Elim e Sinai, aos quinze dias do mês segundo, depois que saíram da terra do Egito. 2 E toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel murmurou contra Moisés e contra Arão no deserto. 3 E os filhos de Israel disseram-lhes: Quem dera que nós morrêssemos por mão do Senhor na terra do Egito, quando estávamos sentados junto às panelas de carne, quando comíamos pão até fartar! Porque nos tendes tirado para este deserto, para matardes de fome a toda esta multidão.

4 Então, disse o Senhor a Moisés: Eis que vos farei chover pão dos céus, e o povo sairá e colherá cada dia a porção para cada dia, para que eu veja se anda em minha lei ou não. 5 E acontecerá, ao sexto dia, que prepararão o que colherem; e será o dobro do que colhem cada dia. 6 Então, disse Moisés e Arão a todos os filhos de Israel: À tarde sabereis que o Senhor vos tirou da terra do Egito, 7 e amanhã vereis a glória do Senhor, porquanto ouviu as vossas murmurações contra o Senhor; porque quem somos nós para que murmureis contra nós? 8 Disse mais Moisés: Isso será quando o Senhor, à tarde, vos der carne para comer e, pela manhã, pão a fartar, porquanto o Senhor ouviu as vossas murmurações, com que murmurais contra ele (porque quem somos nós?). As vossas murmurações não são contra nós, mas sim contra o Senhor. 9 Depois, disse Moisés a Arão: Dize a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel: Chegai-vos para diante do Senhor, porque ouviu as vossas murmurações. 10 E aconteceu que, quando falou Arão a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel, e eles se viraram para o deserto, eis que a glória do Senhor apareceu na nuvem.

11 E o Senhor falou a Moisés, dizendo: 12 Tenho ouvido as murmurações dos filhos de Israel; fala-lhes, dizendo: Entre as duas tardes, comereis carne, e, pela manhã, vos fartareis de pão, e sabereis que eu sou o Senhor, vosso Deus. 13 E aconteceu que, à tarde, subiram codornizes e cobriram o arraial; e, pela manhã, jazia o orvalho ao redor do arraial. 14 E, alçando-se o orvalho caído, eis que sobre a face do deserto estava uma coisa miúda, redonda, miúda como a geada sobre a terra. 15 E, vendo-a os filhos de Israel, disseram uns aos outros: Que é isto? Porque não sabiam o que era. Disse-lhes, pois, Moisés: Este é o pão que o Senhor vos deu para comer. 16 Esta é a palavra que o Senhor tem mandado: Colhei dele cada um conforme o que pode comer, um gômer por cabeça, segundo o número das vossas almas; cada um tomará para os que se acharem na sua tenda. 17 E os filhos de Israel fizeram assim; e colheram, uns, mais, e outros, menos. 18 Porém, medindo-o com o gômer, não sobejava ao que colhera muito, nem faltava ao que colhera pouco; cada um colheu tanto quanto podia comer. 19 E disse-lhes Moisés: Ninguém deixe dele para amanhã. 20 Eles, porém, não deram ouvidos a Moisés; antes, alguns deles deixaram dele para o dia seguinte; e aquele criou bichos e cheirava mal; por isso, indignou-se Moisés contra eles. 21 Eles, pois, o colhiam cada manhã; cada um, conforme ao que podia comer; porque, aquecendo o sol, derretia-se.

22 E aconteceu que, ao sexto dia, colheram pão em dobro, dois gômeres para cada um; e todos os príncipes da congregação vieram e contaram-no a Moisés. 23 E ele disse-lhes: Isto é o que o Senhor tem dito: Amanhã é repouso, o santo sábado do Senhor; o que quiserdes cozer no forno, cozei-o; e o que quiserdes cozer em água, cozei-o em água; e tudo o que sobejar ponde em guarda para vós até amanhã. 24 E guardaram-no até pela manhã, como Moisés tinha ordenado; e não cheirou mal, nem nele houve algum bicho. 25 Então, disse Moisés: Comei-o hoje, porquanto hoje é o sábado do Senhor; hoje não o achareis no campo. 26 Seis dias o colhereis, mas o sétimo dia é o sábado; nele não haverá. 27 E aconteceu, ao sétimo dia, que alguns do povo saíram para colher, mas não o acharam. 28 Então, disse o Senhor a Moisés: Até quando recusareis guardar os meus mandamentos e as minhas leis? 29 Vede, visto que o Senhor vos deu o sábado, por isso ele, no sexto dia, vos dá pão para dois dias; cada um fique no seu lugar, que ninguém saia do seu lugar no sétimo dia. 30 Assim, repousou o povo no sétimo dia.

31 E chamou a casa de Israel o seu nome Maná; e era como semente de coentro; era branco, e o seu sabor, como bolos de mel. 32 E disse Moisés: Esta é a palavra que o Senhor tem mandado: Encherás um gômer dele e o guardarás para as vossas gerações, para que vejam o pão que vos tenho dado a comer neste deserto, quando eu vos tirei da terra do Egito. 33 Disse também Moisés a Arão: Toma um vaso, e mete nele um gômer cheio de maná, e põe-no diante do Senhor, em guarda para as vossas gerações. 34 Como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés, assim Arão o pôs diante do Testemunho em guarda. 35 E comeram os filhos de Israel maná quarenta anos, até que entraram em terra habitada; comeram maná até que chegaram aos termos da terra de Canaã. 36 E um gômer é a décima parte do efa.
