1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, neither crave to be with them;2 For, violence, their heart muttereth, and, mischief, their lips do speak.3 In wisdom, is a house builded, and, in understanding, is it established;4 And, in knowledge, chambers are filled, with all acquisitions, costly and fair.5 A wise man, is mighty, and, a man of knowledge, becometh alert in vigour.6 Surely, with concerted measures, shalt thou make for thyself war, and, success, lieth in the greatness of the counsellor.7 Unattainable to a foolish man, are the dictates of wisdom, in the gate, he openeth not his mouth.8 He that deviseth to do mischief, him, shall men call, a master of plots.9 The purpose of folly, is sin, and, an abomination to mankind, is a buffoon.10 Thou hast been slothful in the day of straitness, Strait, is thy strength.11 Deliver thou such as are being led forth to death, and, them who are tottering to slaughter, oh that thou wouldst hold back!12 Though thou say, Lo! we knew not this, Shall not, he that proveth hearts, himself, discern? And, he that formeth thy soul, himself, know? and bring back to a son of earth according to his deed?13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good,and droppings from the comb sweet to thy palate:14 Thus, take knowledge of wisdom, for thine own soul; If thou find it, then there is a future, and, thine expectation, shall not be cut off.15 Do not lie in wait, thou lawless man, against the home of the righteous,neither destroy thou his place of rest;16 For, seven times, may the righteous fall and yet arise, but, lawless men, shall stumble into calamity.17 When thine enemy falleth, do not thou rejoice, and, when he stumbleth, let not thy heart exult:18 Lest Yahweh see it, and it be wicked in his eyes, and he turn away from him his anger.19 Burn not with vexation against evil doers, be not envious of lawless men;20 For there shall be no future for the wicked, The lamp of the lawless, shall go out.21 Revere thou Yahweh, my son, and the king, and, with the fickle, have thou no fellowship;22 For, suddenly, shall arise their calamity; and, the misfortune of their years, who knoweth?23 These things also, concern he wise, To take note of faces in judgment, is not good.24 He that saith to the lawless man, Righteous, thou art, peoples shall denounce him, populations shall curse him;25 But, to reprovers, one should be pleasant, and, upon them, should come an excellent blessing:26 Lips, should one kiss with one who answereth in right words.27 Prepare, in the open, thy work, and make ready, in the field, for thyself, Afterwards, shalt thou build thy house.28 Do not become a needless witness against thy neighbour, so mightest thou open too wide thy lips:29 Do not sayAccording to what he hath done to me, so, will I do to him, I will repay every one according to his work.30 By the field of the sluggard, I passed, and by the vineyard of a man lacking sense;31 And lo! there had come up all over itthorns, there had covered the face thereofthistles, and, the stone fence thereof, had been thrown down.32 So I observed it, for myself, I applied my heart, I lookedI accepted correction:33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest:34 So shall come in, as a highwayman, thy poverty, and, thy want, as one armed with a shield.

1 Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos, nem desejes estar com eles, 2 porque o seu coração medita a rapina, e os seus lábios falam maliciosamente. 3 Com a sabedoria se edifica a casa, e com a inteligência ela se firma; 4 e pelo conhecimento se encherão as câmaras de todas as substâncias preciosas e deleitáveis. 5 Um varão sábio é forte, e o varão de conhecimento consolida a força. 6 Porque com conselhos prudentes tu farás a guerra; e há vitória na multidão dos conselheiros. 7 É demasiadamente alta para o tolo toda a sabedoria; na porta não abrirá a boca.

8 Aquele que cuida em fazer mal, mestre de maus intentos o chamarão. 9 O pensamento do tolo é pecado, e é abominável aos homens o escarnecedor.

10 Se te mostrares frouxo no dia da angústia, a tua força será pequena. 11 Livra os que estão destinados à morte e salva os que são levados para a matança, se os puderes retirar. 12 Se disseres: Eis que o não sabemos; porventura, aquele que pondera os corações não o considerará? E aquele que atenta para a tua alma não o saberá? Não pagará ele ao homem conforme a sua obra? 13 Come mel, meu filho, porque é bom, e o favo de mel, que é doce ao teu paladar. 14 Tal será o conhecimento da sabedoria para a tua alma; se a achares, haverá para ti galardão, e não será cortada a tua expectação.

15 Não espies a habitação do justo, ó ímpio, nem assoles a sua câmara. 16 Porque sete vezes cairá o justo e se levantará; mas os ímpios tropeçarão no mal.

17 Quando cair o teu inimigo, não te alegres, nem quando tropeçar se regozije o teu coração; 18 para que o Senhor isso não veja, e seja mau aos seus olhos, e desvie dele a sua ira. 19 Não te aflijas por causa dos malfeitores, nem tenhas inveja dos ímpios. 20 Porque o maligno não terá galardão algum, e a lâmpada dos ímpios se apagará.

21 Teme ao Senhor, filho meu, e ao rei, e não te entremetas com os que buscam mudanças. 22 Porque, de repente, se levantará a sua perdição, e a ruína deles, quem a conhecerá? 23 Também estes são provérbios dos sábios.

Ter respeito a pessoas no juízo não é bom. 24 O que disser ao ímpio: Justo és, os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o detestarão. 25 Mas, para os que o repreenderem, haverá delícias, e sobre eles virá a bênção do bem. 26 Beija com os lábios o que responde com palavras retas.

27 Prepara fora a tua obra, e apronta-a no campo, e então edifica a tua casa. 28 Não sejas testemunha sem causa contra o teu próximo; por que enganarias com os teus lábios? 29 Não digas: Como ele me fez a mim, assim lhe farei a ele; pagarei a cada um segundo a sua obra.

30 Passei pelo campo do preguiçoso e junto à vinha do homem falto de entendimento; 31 e eis que toda estava cheia de cardos, e a sua superfície, coberta de urtigas, e a sua parede de pedra estava derribada. 32 O que tendo eu visto, o considerei; e, vendo-o, recebi instrução. 33 Um pouco de sono, adormecendo um pouco, encruzando as mãos outro pouco, para estar deitado, 34 assim sobrevirá a tua pobreza como um ladrão, e a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
