1 Hear, ye sons, the correction of a father, and attend, that ye may know understanding.2 For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.3 For, a son, became I to my father, tender and most precious in the sight of my mother.4 So he taught me, and said to meLet thy heart, lay hold of my words, Keep my commandments and live!5 Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding, Do not forget, neither decline thou from the sayings of my mouth.6 Do not forsake her, and she will guard thee,love her and she will keep thee.7 The principal thing, is wisdom, acquire thou wisdom, With all thine acquisition, acquire thou understanding.8 Exalt her, and she will set thee on high, she will bring thee to honour, when thou dust embrace her:9 She will give for thy head, a wreath of beauty, A crown of adorning, will she bestow upon thee.10 Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and they will multiply to thee the years of life.11 In the way of wisdom, have I taught thee, I have guided thee in tracks of uprightness.12 When thou walkest, thy step shall not be hemmed in, and, if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.13 Take fast hold of correction, let her not go,keep her, for, she, is thy life.14 Upon the path of the lawless, do not thou enter, and do not advance in the way of the wicked:15 Avoid it, do not pass thereonturn from it, and depart.16 For they sleep not, unless they can do mischief,They rob themselves of their sleep, if they cannot cause someone to stumble,17 For they consume bread gotten by lawlessness, and, wine obtained by violence, they drink.18 But, the path of the righteous, is as the light of dawn,going on and brightening, unto meridian day.19 The way of the lawless, is like darkness, they know not, at what they stumble.20 My son, to my words, attend, to my sayings, incline thou thine ear;21 Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thy heart;22 For, life, they are, to them who find them,and, to every part of ones flesh, they bring healing.23 Above all that must be guarded, keep thou thy heart, for, out of it, are the issues of life.24 Remove from thee, perverseness of mouth, and, craftiness of lips, put far from thee.25 Let, thine eyes, right onward, look,and, thine eyelashes, point straight before thee.26 Make level the track of thy foot, that, all thy ways, may be directed aright:27 Decline not, to the right hand or to the left,Turn away thy foot from wickedness.

1 Ouvi, filhos, a correção do pai e estai atentos para conhecerdes a prudência. 2 Pois dou-vos boa doutrina; não deixeis a minha lei. 3 Porque eu era filho de meu pai, tenro e único em estima diante de minha mãe. 4 E ele ensinava-me e dizia-me: Retenha as minhas palavras o teu coração; guarda os meus mandamentos e vive. 5 Adquire a sabedoria, adquire a inteligência e não te esqueças nem te apartes das palavras da minha boca. 6 Não desampares a sabedoria, e ela te guardará; ama-a, e ela te conservará. 7 A sabedoria é a coisa principal; adquire, pois, a sabedoria; sim, com tudo o que possuis, adquire o conhecimento. 8 Exalta-a, e ela te exaltará; e, abraçando-a tu, ela te honrará. 9 Dará à tua cabeça um diadema de graça e uma coroa de glória te entregará.

10 Ouve, filho meu, e aceita as minhas palavras, e se te multiplicarão os anos de vida. 11 No caminho da sabedoria, te ensinei e, pelas carreiras direitas, te fiz andar. 12 Por elas andando, não se embaraçarão os teus passos; e, se correres, não tropeçarás. 13 Pega-te à correção e não a largues; guarda-a, porque ela é a tua vida. 14 Não entres na vereda dos ímpios, nem andes pelo caminho dos maus. 15 Evita-o; não passes por ele; desvia-te dele e passa de largo. 16 Pois não dormem, se não fizerem mal, e foge deles o sono, se não fizerem tropeçar alguém. 17 Porque comem o pão da impiedade e bebem o vinho das violências. 18 Mas a vereda dos justos é como a luz da aurora, que vai brilhando mais e mais até ser dia perfeito. 19 O caminho dos ímpios é como a escuridão; nem conhecem aquilo em que tropeçam.

20 Filho meu, atenta para as minhas palavras; às minhas razões inclina o teu ouvido. 21 Não as deixes apartar-se dos teus olhos; guarda-as no meio do teu coração. 22 Porque são vida para os que as acham e saúde, para o seu corpo. 23 Sobre tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração, porque dele procedem as saídas da vida. 24 Desvia de ti a tortuosidade da boca e alonga de ti a perversidade dos lábios. 25 Os teus olhos olhem direitos, e as tuas pálpebras olhem diretamente diante de ti. 26 Pondera a vereda de teus pés, e todos os teus caminhos sejam bem-ordenados! 27 Não declines nem para a direita nem para a esquerda; retira o teu pé do mal.
