Troligen var modern en trygghet för det ovana fölet (Mark 11:2). Åsnan var fredens djur (jfr t ex Dom 5:10), till skillnad från hästen som förknippades med krig (5 Mos 20:1, Ps 33:17). bredvid sig. Ta loss dem och led dem till mig. 3 Och om någon säger något till er, ska ni svara: Herren behöver dem. Och han ska strax skicka i väg dem*21:3Och han ska strax skicka i väg demSyftar antingen på ägaren, som släpper åsnorna, eller på Herrens löfte att sända tillbaka dem (jfr Mark 11:3).." 4 Detta hände för att det som var sagt genom profeten skulle uppfyllas:

Se, din kung kommer till dig,

ödmjuk och ridande på en åsna,

på en arbetsåsnas föl.*21:5 Sak 9:9. "Dottern Sion" var en bild för Jerusalem och dess folk (jfr t ex Mika 4:8).

6 *Mark 11:4f, Luk 19:32f. Lärjungarna gav sig i väg och gjorde som Jesus hade befallt dem. 7 *Joh 12:12f. De hämtade åsnan och fölet och lade sina mantlar på dem, och han satt upp. 8 *2 Kung 9:13. Den stora folkmassan bredde ut sina mantlar på vägen, andra skar kvistar från träden och strödde på vägen. 9 *Matt 23:39, Luk 19:38. Och folket, både de som gick före honom och de som följde efter, ropade: "Hosianna*21:9HosiannaHebr. "Fräls!" (Ps 118:25), ett bönerop som med tiden blev ett liturgiskt hyllningsrop., Davids son! Välsignad är han som kommer i Herrens namn. Hosianna i höjden!"

10 När han drog in i Jerusalem kom hela staden i rörelse, och man frågade: "Vem är han?" 11 *Matt 21:46. Folket svarade: "Det är Profeten*21:11ProfetenSe not till Joh 1:21., Jesus från Nasaret i Galileen."

12 *5 Mos 14:24f, Mark 11:15f, Luk 19:45f, Joh 2:14f. Jesus kom in på tempelplatsen och drev ut alla som sålde och köpte där i templet*21:12alla som sålde och köpte där i templetPilgrimer kunde växla till den lokala valutan och köpa offerdjur (5 Mos 14:26) i butiker utanför själva tempelplatsen. När affärsverksamheten flyttade in i templet, störde det rabbinernas undervisning (Luk 2:46) och hedningarnas böner (Jes 56:7).. Han välte växlarnas bord och duvförsäljarnas stolar 13 *Jer 7:11. och sade till dem: "Det står skrivet: Mitt hus ska kallas ett bönens hus. Men ni har gjort det till ettrövarnäste!"*21:13 Jes 56:7, Jer 7:11.

14 På tempelplatsen*21:14tempelplatsenDe blinda och lama höll till här på "hedningarnas förgård" (jfr 2 Sam 5:8). kom blinda och lama fram till honom, och han botade dem. 15 När översteprästerna och de skriftlärda såg de under han gjorde och barnen som ropade i templet: "Hosianna, Davids son!", blev de upprörda 16 och sade till honom: "Hör du vad de säger?" Jesus svarade dem: "Ja, har ni aldrig läst: Av barns och spädbarns mun har du berett en lovsång?"*21:16 Ps 8:3, citerat efter grekiska Septuaginta. Där översätts hebreiskans "makt" med "lovsång" för att förklara hur Gud kunde bereda en "makt" av barnens mun.17 Sedan lämnade han dem och gick ut ur staden till Betania, där han övernattade.

18 *Mark 11:12f, 20f. När Jesus tidigt på morgonen var på väg tillbaka till staden blev han hungrig. 19 Han såg ett fikonträd vid vägen och gick fram till det, men fann inget annat än blad på det. Då sade han: "Aldrig mer ska det komma frukt från dig." Och genast vissnade fikonträdet.

20 När lärjungarna såg det, blev de förundrade och frågade: "Hur kunde fikonträdet vissna så plötsligt?" 21 *Matt 17:20, Luk 17:6. Jesus svarade dem: "Jag säger er sanningen: Om ni har tro och inte tvivlar, så kan ni göra inte bara sådant som med fikonträdet. Ni ska till och med kunna säga till det här berget: Lyft dig och kasta dig i havet, och det ska ske. 22 *Matt 7:7, 18:19, Joh 15:7, 1 Joh 3:22. Allt vad ni ber om i er bön ska ni få, när ni tror."

23 *Mark 11:27f, Luk 20:1f, Apg 4:7. Jesus gick upp till templet och undervisade. Då kom översteprästerna och folkets äldste fram till honom och frågade: "Vad har du för fullmakt att göra detta? Och vem har gett dig den fullmakten?" 24 Jesus svarade dem: "Jag vill också fråga er en sak. Svarar ni mig på den, så ska jag säga er vad jag har för fullmakt att göra det här. 25 Johannes dop, varifrån kom det? Från himlen eller från människor?"

De samrådde med varandra och sade: "Säger vi: Från himlen, så säger han: Varför trodde ni då inte på honom? 26 *Matt 14:5, Mark 6:20. Men säger vi: Från människor, så måste vi akta oss för folket. Alla anser ju att Johannes var en profet." 27 Därför svarade de: "Vi vet inte." Jesus sade till dem: "Då säger inte heller jag till er vad jag har för fullmakt att göra det här."

28 "Vad tänker ni om detta? En man hade två söner. Han gick till den förste och sade: Min son, gå och arbeta i vingården i dag. 29 Jag vill inte, svarade han. Men längre fram ångrade han sig och gick. 30 *Matt 7:21. Sedan kom mannen till den andre och sade samma sak. Han svarade: Ja, herre. Men han gick inte. 31 *Luk 7:20f, 18:14. Vem av de två gjorde faderns vilja?" De svarade: "Den förste."

Jesus sade till dem: "Jag säger er sanningen: Tullindrivare och prostituerade ska gå före er in i Guds rike. 32 *Luk 3:10f. Johannes kom till er på rättfärdighetens väg och ni trodde inte på honom, men tullindrivarna och de prostituerade trodde på honom. Och trots att ni såg det, ångrade ni er inte ens senare och trodde på honom.

33 *Ps 80:9, Mark 12:1f, Luk 20:9f. Lyssna på en annan liknelse: En husbonde planterade en vingård. Han satte stängsel runt den, högg ut en vinpress*21:33vinpressVinpressen bestod av två små bassänger uthuggna i klippan. I den övre trampade man druvorna (Amos 9:13) så att druvsaften rann ner i den nedre (Hagg 2:17). och byggde ett vakttorn. Sedan arrenderade han ut den till vinodlare och reste bort.

34 När skördetiden närmade sig, sände han sina tjänare till vinodlarna för att få sin del av frukten. 35 Men vinodlarna tog fast hans tjänare. En slog de, en annan dödade de och en tredje stenade de. 36 Återigen sände han andra tjänare, fler än de förra. Men de gjorde på samma sätt med dem.

37 Till sist sände han sin son till dem och sade: Min son kommer de att ha respekt för. 38 *Matt 26:3f, 27:1, Joh 11:53. Men när vinodlarna fick se sonen sade de till varandra: Här är arvtagaren! Kom, vi dödar honom så får vi hans arv. 39 Och de tog fast honom, kastade ut honom ur vingården och dödade honom. 40 När nu vingårdens herre kommer, vad ska han då göra med dessa vinodlare?"

41 De svarade honom: "Han ska ge de onda en ond död och arrendera ut vingården till andra vinodlare som ger honom frukten i rätt tid." 42 *Jes 28:16, Apg 4:11, 1 Petr 2:4f. Jesus sade till dem: "Har ni aldrig läst i Skrifterna:

Stenen som husbyggarna förkastade

har blivit en hörnsten.

Herren har gjort den till detta,

underbart är det i våra ögon.*21:42 Ps 118:22f. Annan översättning: "… underbar är den i våra ögon".

43 Därför säger jag er: Guds rike ska tas ifrån er och ges åt ett folk som bär dess frukt. 44 Den som faller på den stenen blir krossad, och den som stenen faller på blir söndersmulad."*21:44 Vers 44 saknas i några handskrifter (återfinns i Luk 20:18).

45 Översteprästerna och fariseerna hörde hans liknelser, och de förstod att det var dem som han talade om. 46 De ville gripa honom men var rädda för folket, eftersom man ansåg att han var en profet.

12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. 15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased, 16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there. 18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered. 19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. 20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away! 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

23 And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? 24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? 26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. 29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.

33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: 34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. 37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. 39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. 40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 41 They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. 42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? 43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.
