1 Paulo, chamado para ser apóstolo de Cristo Jesus por vontade de Deus, e Sóstenes, nosso irmão,2 à igreja de Deus que está em Corinto, aos santificados em Cristo Jesus, chamados para serem santos, com todos os que em todo o lugar invocam o nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor tanto deles como nosso:3 Graça a vós e paz da parte de Deus nosso Pai e da do Senhor Jesus Cristo.4 Sempre dou graças a Deus por vós por causa da graça de Deus, que vos foi dada em Cristo Jesus;5 porque em tudo fostes enriquecidos nele, em toda a palavra e em toda a ciência;6 assim como foi confirmado em vós o testemunho de Cristo;7 de maneira que não vos falta nenhum dom, aguardando vós a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo;8 o qual também vos confirmará até o fim, para serdes inculpáveis no dia de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.9 Fiel é Deus, pelo qual fostes chamados à comunhão de seu Filho Jesus Cristo nosso Senhor.10 Rogo-vos, irmãos, pelo nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que todos digais a mesma coisa, e que não haja entre vós dissensões; mas que sejais inteiramente unidos no mesmo pensar e no mesmo parecer.11 Pois acerca de vós, irmãos meus, se me tem significado pelos da casa de Cloé, que há contendas entre vós.12 Ora o que quero dizer é que cada um de vós diz: Eu sou de Paulo, eu de Apolo, eu de Cefas e eu de Cristo.13 Está dividido o Cristo? porventura Paulo foi crucificado por amor de vós, ou fostes batizados no nome de Paulo?14 Dou graças que a nenhum de vós batizei senão a Crispo e a Gaio;15 para que ninguém diga que fostes batizados no meu nome.16 Batizei também a família de Estéfanas; além destes não sei se batizei algum outro.17 Pois não me enviou Cristo a batizar, mas a pregar o Evangelho; não em sabedoria de palavras, para que não seja feita vã a cruz de Cristo.18 Pois a palavra da cruz é uma estultícia para os que perecem, mas para nós que somos salvos é o poder de Deus.19 Assim está escrito: Destruirei a sabedoria dos sábios, E o entendimento dos entendidos reduzirei a nada.20 Onde está o sábio? onde o escriba? onde o questionador deste mundo? não mostrou Deus que a sabedoria do mundo é estulta?21 Porquanto uma vez que na sabedoria de Deus o mundo pela sua sabedoria não o conheceu, aprouve a Deus, pela estultícia da pregação, salvar os que crêem.22 Visto que tanto os judeus pedem milagres como os gregos buscam sabedoria,23 nós pregamos a Cristo crucificado, que é para os judeus, na verdade, uma pedra de tropeço, e para os gentios uma estultícia;24 mas para os que são chamados, tanto judeus como gregos, Cristo, poder de Deus e sabedoria de Deus.25 Pois a estultícia de Deus é mais sábia que os homens, e a fraqueza de Deus é mais forte que os homens.26 Vede, irmãos, a vossa vocação, que não muitos sábios segundo a carne, nem muitos poderosos, nem muitos nobres são chamados;27 pelo contrário as coisas insensatas do mundo escolheu Deus para envergonhar os sábios, e as coisas fracas do mundo escolheu Deus para envergonhar as fortes;28 e as coisas ignóbeis do mundo, e as desprezadas, escolheu Deus, sim aquelas que não são, para reduzir a nada coisas que são;29 a fim de que ninguém se glorie na presença de Deus.30 Mas dele sois vós em Cristo Jesus, o qual se nos tornou da parte de Deus sabedoria, e justiça e santificação, e redenção;31 para que, como está escrito: O que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor.

1 From Paul, called to be an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and from our brother Sosthenes,2 to the church of God in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who continually call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours.3 May grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be yours!4 I always thank my God for you because of the grace of God given you in Christ Jesus.5 For in him you have become rich in every way—in speech and knowledge of every kind.6 In this way, our testimony about Christ has been confirmed among you.7 Therefore, you don't lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.8 He will keep you strong until the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 Faithful is the God by whom you were called into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.10 Brothers, I urge all of you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to be in agreement and not to have divisions among you, so that you may be perfectly united in your understanding and opinions.11 My brothers, some members of Chloe's family have made it clear to me that there are quarrels among you.12 This is what I mean: Each of you is saying, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ."13 Has Christ been divided? Paul wasn't crucified for you, was he? You weren't baptized in Paul's name, were you?14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Chrispus and Gaius,15 lest anyone can say that you were baptized in my name.16 (Yes, I also baptized the family of Stephanus. Beyond that, I'm not sure whether I baptized anyone else.)17 For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.18 For the message about the cross is nonsense to those who are being destroyed, but it is God's power to us who are being saved.19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,and the intelligence of the intelligent I will reject."20 Where is the wise person? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? God has turned the wisdom of the world into nonsense, hasn't he?21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know God, God decided through the nonsense of our preaching to save those who believe.22 Jews ask for signs, and Greeks look for wisdom,23 but we preach Christ crucified. He is a stumbling block to Jews and nonsense to Gentiles,24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God's power and God's wisdom.25 For God's nonsense is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.26 Brothers, think about your own calling. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.27 But God chose what is nonsense in the world to make the wise feel ashamed. God chose what is weak in the world to make the strong feel ashamed.28 And God chose what is insignificant in the world, what is despised, what is nothing, in order to destroy what is something,29 so that no human being may boast in God's presence.30 It is because of him that you are in union with Christ Jesus, who for us has become wisdom from God, as well as our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption.31 Therefore, as it is written, "The person who boasts must boast in the Lord."
