1 Tinha Josafá riquezas e glória em abundância, e aliou-se por casamento com Acabe.2 Passados alguns anos, desceu ele a ter com Acabe em Samaria. Acabe mandou matar ovelhas e bois em grande quantidade para ele e para o povo que estava com ele; e o persuadiu a subir com ele a Ramote-Gileade.3 Acabe, rei de Israel, perguntou a Josafá, rei de Judá: Irás comigo a Ramote-Gileade? Respondeu-lhe Josafá: Como tu és, sou eu, o meu povo como o teu povo, e nós te acompanharemos na guerra.4 Disse Josafá ao rei de Israel: Consulta hoje a palavra de Jeová.5 O rei de Israel ajuntou os profetas, quatrocentos homens, e perguntou-lhes: Iremos à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade, ou deixarei eu de ir? Responderam eles: Sobe, pois Deus a entregará nas mãos do rei.6 Disse, porém, Josafá: Não há aqui ainda um profeta de Jeová, para que o consultemos?7 Respondeu o rei de Israel a Josafá: Ainda há um homem pelo qual podemos consultar a Jeová; porém eu o aborreço, porque nunca profetiza a respeito de mim o bem, mas sempre o mal; este é Micaia filho de Inlá. Disse Josafá: Não fale assim o rei.8 Então o rei de Israel chamou um oficial e disse: Faze vir depressa a Micaia, filho de Inlá.9 Ora o rei de Israel, e Josafá, rei de Judá, estavam sentados cada um no seu trono, vestidos de seus trajes reais, e estavam sentados no terreiro junto à entrada da porta de Samaria; e todos os profetas profetizavam diante deles.10 Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, fez para si uns chifres de ferro, e disse: Assim diz Jeová: Com estes repelirás os siros, até que sejam consumidos.11 Do mesmo modo profetizaram todos os profetas, dizendo: Sobe a Ramote-Gileade e sê bem sucedido, porque Jeová a entregará nas mãos do rei.12 O mensageiro que foi chamar a Micaia, disse-lhe: Eis que os profetas a uma boca têm augurado o bem ao rei; portanto seja a tua palavra como a deles, e fala tu o bem.13 Micaia respondeu: Pela vida de Jeová, o que diz meu Deus, isso falarei.14 Tendo ele chegado à presença do rei, que lhe disse: Micaia, iremos à guerra contra Ramote-Gileade, ou deixarei eu de ir? Respondeu ele: Subi e sede bem sucedidos; e eles serão entregues nas vossas mãos.15 O rei disse-lhe: Quantas vezes te hei de conjurar que me não fales senão a verdade em nome de Jeová?16 Respondeu ele: Vi todo o Israel disperso pelos montes, como ovelhas que não têm pastor; e Jeová disse: Estes não têm senhor; volte cada um em paz para sua casa.17 Disse o rei de Israel a Josafá: Não te disse eu que ele não profetizaria a respeito de mim o bem, mas o mal?18 Prosseguiu Micaia: Ouvi a palavra de Jeová: Vi a Jeová sentado no seu trono, e todo o exército do céu em pé à sua direita e à sua esquerda.19 Jeová perguntou: Quem enganará a Acabe, rei de Israel, para que suba e caia em Ramote-Gileade? Respondeu um de um modo, e outro de outro.20 Então saiu um espírito, apresentou-se diante de Jeová, e disse: Eu o enganarei. Perguntou-lhe Jeová: Como?21 Respondeu ele: Sairei e serei um espírito mentiroso na boca de todos os seus profetas. Disse-lhe Jeová: Tu o enganarás, e virás a prevalecer; sai, e faze-o assim.22 Agora eis que Jeová pôs um espírito mentiroso na boca destes teus profetas, e falou o mal a respeito de ti.23 Então se chegou Zedequias, filho de Quenaaná, e deu uma bofetada em Micaia, e disse: Por onde saiu de mim o espírito de Jeová para falar a ti?24 Respondeu Micaia: Tu o verás naquele dia quando entrares numa câmara interior para te esconderes.25 O rei de Israel disse: Pegai em Micaia, e tornai a levá-lo a Amom, governador da cidade, e a Joás, filho do rei;26 e dizei: Assim diz o rei: Metei esse homem no cárcere, e dai-lhe pão de angústia e água de angústia, até que eu volte em paz.27 Respondeu Micaia: Se, na verdade, voltares em paz, não falou Jeová por minha boca. Acrescentou: Ouvi, povos, todos vós.28 O rei de Israel e Josafá, rei de Judá, subiram a Ramote-Gileade.29 Disse o rei de Israel a Josafá: Disfarçar-me-ei e entrarei na batalha; mas veste tu os teus trajes reais. Disfarçou-se o rei de Israel; e entraram na batalha.30 Ora o rei da Síria deu ordem aos capitães dos seus carros, dizendo: Não pelejeis contra pequeno nem grande, senão só contra o rei de Israel.31 Assim que os capitães dos carros viram a Josafá, disseram: Este é o rei de Israel. Portanto se viraram para pelejar contra ele, mas Josafá gritou, Jeová o socorreu, e Deus levou-os a se apartarem dele.32 Vendo os capitães dos carros que não era o rei de Israel, deixaram de segui-lo.33 Certo homem armou o seu arco ao acaso e feriu ao rei de Israel por entre as juntas da armadura; pelo que disse ao que guiava o carro: Dá volta e tira-me para fora do exército, porque estou gravemente ferido.34 Tornou-se renhida a batalha naquele dia; todavia o rei de Israel susteve-se no seu carro contra os siros até a tarde, e ao pôr do sol morreu.
1 Jehoshaphat was wealthy and honorable. He became Ahabs in-law.2 After that he went to visit Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered many sheep and cattle for a banquet in honor of Jehoshaphat and the people who were with him. Ahab persuaded Jehoshaphat to attack Ramoth in Gilead with him.3 He asked: »Will you go with me to attack Ramoth?« Jehoshaphat replied: »I am ready when you are. My army is ready. We will join you.«4 He added: »But first let us consult Jehovah.«5 Ahab called in about four hundred prophets. He asked them: »Should I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack it,« they answered. »God will give you victory.«6 Jehoshaphat asked: »Is there another prophet through whom we can consult Jehovah?«7 Ahab answered: »There is one more. He is Micaiah son of Imlah. But I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad.« Jehoshaphat replied: »You should not say that.«8 Consequently King Ahab called in a court official and told him to go and get Micaiah at once.9 The two kings, dressed in their royal robes, sat on their thrones at the threshing place just outside the gate of Samaria. All the prophets were prophesying in front of them.10 One of them, Zedekiah son of Chenaanah, made iron horns and said to Ahab: This is what Jehovah says: »With these you will fight the Syrians and totally defeat them.«11 All the other prophets said the same thing. »March against Ramoth and you will win,« they said. Jehovah will give you victory.12 The official who had gone to get Micaiah said to him: All the other prophets have prophesied success for the king. You had better do the same.13 But Micaiah answered: »By the living God Jehovah I will say what my God tells me to say.«14 When he appeared before King Ahab, the king asked him: »Micaiah, should King Jehoshaphat and I go and attack Ramoth, or not?« »Attack!« Micaiah answered. »You will win! Jehovah will give you victory.«15 Ahab replied: »When you speak to me in the name of Jehovah, tell the truth! How many times do I have to tell you that?«16 Micaiah answered: »I can see the army of Israel scattered over the hills like sheep without a shepherd.« Jehovah said: »These men have no leader. Let them go home in peace.«17 Ahab said to Jehoshaphat: »I told you that he never prophesies anything good for me. It is always something bad!«18 Micaiah continued: »Now listen to what Jehovah says! I saw Jehovah sitting on his throne in heaven. All his angels were standing beside him.«19 Jehovah asked: »Who will deceive Ahab so that he will go and get killed at Ramoth? Some of the angels said one thing, and others said something else,20 until a spirit stepped forward, approached Jehovah,« and said: »I will deceive him.« »How?« Jehovah asked.21 The spirit replied: »I will go and make all of Ahabs prophets tell lies.« Jehovah said: »Go and deceive him. You will succeed.«22 Micaiah concluded: »This is what has happened. Jehovah made these prophets of yours lie to you. But he has decreed that you will meet with disaster!«23 Then the prophet Zedekiah went up to Micaiah and slapped his face. He asked: »Since when did Jehovahs spirit leave me and speak to you?«24 »You will find out when you go into some back room to hide,« Micaiah replied.25 Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers: »Arrest Micaiah and take him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Prince Joash.«26 Say: »This is what the king says: Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return home safely.«27 Micaiah said: »If you really do come back safely, then Jehovah was not speaking through me. Pay attention to this, everyone!«28 Thus the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah went to Ramoth in Gilead.29 The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat: »I will disguise myself and go into battle. You, however, should wear your royal robes.« So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.30 The king of Aram gave orders to the chariot commanders. He said: »Do not fight anyone except the king of Israel.«31 When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said: »He must be the king of Israel.« So they surrounded him in order to fight him. When Jehoshaphat cried out Jehovah helped him. God drew them away from him.32 Soon the chariot commanders realized that Jehoshaphat was not the king of Israel. Then they turned away from him.33 One man aimed his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between his scale armor and his breastplate. Ahab told the chariot driver: »Turn around, and get me away from these troops for I am badly wounded.«34 The battle raged on and King Ahab remained propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians. At sunset he died.
