O sacerdócio de Melquisedeque era figura do sacerdócio eterno de Cristo

1 Pois este *Gn 14.18-20;Hb 7.6Melquisedeque, rei de Salém, sacerdote do *vd.Mc 5.7Deus Altíssimo, que encontrou a Abraão quando voltava da matança dos reis e o abençoou, 2 a quem também Abraão repartiu o dízimo de tudo (sendo, por interpretação, primeiramente Rei de justiça e depois também Rei de Salém, que é Rei de paz, 3 sem pai, nem mãe, *cp.Hb 7.6sem genealogia, que não tem princípio de dias, nem fim de vida, mas feito semelhante ao *Hb 7.28; vd.Hb 7.1;Mt 4.3Filho de Deus), permanece sacerdote continuamente.

Melquisedeque maior do que Abraão. Levi pagou-lhe dízimos

4 Considerai quão grande era este a quem Abraão, *vd.At 2.29o patriarca, deu o dízimo do melhor dos despojos. 5 Com efeito, os que, dentre os *Nm 18.21,26;2Cr 31.4s.filhos de Levi recebem o sacerdócio, têm mandamento de receber, segundo a Lei, dízimos do povo, isto é, de seus irmãos, embora estes tenham saído dos lombos de Abraão; 6 mas aquele *Hb 7.3cuja genealogia não é contada destes *vd.Hb 7.1s.recebeu dízimos de Abraão e abençoou ao que *Rm 4.13tem as promessas. 7 Porém está fora de toda questão que o menor é abençoado pelo maior. 8 Aqui, na verdade, recebem dízimos homens que morrem, mas ali os recebe aquele *Hb 5.6;6.20de quem é testificado que vive. 9 E, por assim dizer, por meio de Abraão, até o mesmo Levi, o recebedor de dízimos, pagou dízimos; 10 pois ele estava ainda nos lombos de seu pai, quando Melquisedeque encontrou a Abraão.

As imperfeições do sacerdócio judaico

11 *Hb 7.18s.;Hb 8.7Ora, se o aperfeiçoamento fosse pelo sacerdócio levítico (pois sob este *cp.Hb 9.6;10.1o povo recebeu a Lei), que necessidade havia ainda de que um outro sacerdote se levantasse *Hb 7.17; vd.Hb 5.6segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque e de que não fosse contado segundo a ordem de Arão? 12 Pois, mudado que seja o sacerdócio, é necessário que se faça também mudança da Lei. 13 Pois *Hb 7.14aquele de quem *Hb 7.11isso se diz pertence a outra tribo, da qual ninguém tem servido ao altar; 14 pois é evidente que *Ap 5.5;Mt 2.6;Mq 5.2; cp.Is 11.1;Nm 24.17da linhagem de Judá nasceu nosso Senhor, da qual tribo Moisés nada disse acerca de sacerdotes. 15 Ainda isso se manifesta mais claramente, se à semelhança de Melquisedeque se levanta outro sacerdote, 16 o qual não se tem tornado sacerdote segundo a lei de um *cp.Hb 9.10mandamento carnal, mas segundo o poder de *cp.Hb 9.14uma vida indissolúvel. 17 Pois dele se testifica:

*Hb 7.21;Sl 110.4; vd.Hb 5.6Tu és sacerdote para sempre, segundo a ordem de Melquisedeque.

18 Pois, na verdade, é ab-rogado o mandamento prévio, *Hb 7.11; cp.Rm 8.3;Gl 3.21por causa da sua fraqueza e inutilidade 19 (pois *Hb 9.9;10.1; cp.At 13.39;Rm 3.20;7.7s.;Gl 2.16;3.21a Lei nada fez perfeito), e é introduzida uma melhor *vd.Hb 3.6esperança, pela qual nos *Hb 7.25;Hb 4.16;10.1-22;Lm 3.57;Tg 4.8chegamos a Deus. 20 Porquanto não é sem prestar juramento 21 (pois aqueles, na verdade, foram feitos sacerdotes sem juramento, mas este com juramento por aquele que lhe disse:

*Hb 7.17;Sl 110.4O Senhor jurou *Nm 23.19;1Sm 15.29;Rm 11.29e não se arrependerá:

Tu és sacerdote *Hb 7.23-24,28para sempre);

22 portanto, também Jesus se tem tornado *Sl 119.122;Is 38.14fiador de uma *vd.Hb 8.6melhor aliança. 23 Aqueles, na verdade, foram feitos sacerdotes em grande número, porque a morte não permitiu que permanecessem; 24 mas este, porque permanece para sempre, tem o seu sacerdócio inviolável. 25 Por isso, também pode *vd.1Co 1.21salvar completamente os que por ele *vd.Hb 7.19se chegam a Deus, vivendo sempre para *vd.Rm 8.34; cp.Hb 9.24interceder por eles.

Cristo, o nosso sumo sacerdote, é perfeito e sem pecado

26 Pois nos convinha tal *vd.Hb 2.17sumo sacerdote *vd.2Co 5.21; cp.Hb 4.15santo, *1Pe 2.22inocente, imaculado, separado dos pecadores e *vd.Hb 4.14feito mais alto que os céus, 27 que não tem necessidade, como aqueles sumos sacerdotes, de *cp.Hb 5.1oferecer sacrifícios diariamente, *vd.Hb 5.3primeiro, pelos seus próprios pecados e, depois, pelos do povo; porque isso fez *Hb 9.12;10.10; cp.Hb 9.28uma só vez para sempre, quando *Ef 5.2;Hb 9.14,28;10.10,12se ofereceu a si mesmo. 28 Pois a Lei constitui sumos sacerdotes a homens *cp.Hb 5.2que têm enfermidades, mas a palavra do juramento, que veio depois da Lei, constitui ao *vd.Hb 1.2Filho, *vd.Hb 2.10para sempre aperfeiçoado.

1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of God Most High, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham divided a tenth part of all (being first, by interpretation, "king of righteousness", and then also "king of Salem", which means "king of peace", 3 without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God), remains a priest continually.

4 Now consider how great this man was, to whom even Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth out of the best plunder. 5 They indeed of the sons of Levi who receive the priest’s office have a commandment to take tithes from the people according to the law, that is, of their brothers, though these have come out of the body of Abraham, 6 but he whose genealogy is not counted from them has accepted tithes from Abraham, and has blessed him who has the promises. 7 But without any dispute the lesser is blessed by the greater. 8 Here people who die receive tithes, but there one receives tithes of whom it is testified that he lives. 9 We can say that through Abraham even Levi, who receives tithes, has paid tithes, 10 for he was yet in the body of his father when Melchizedek met him.

11 Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is of necessity a change made also in the law. 13 For he of whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord has sprung out of Judah, about which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. 15 This is yet more abundantly evident, if after the likeness of Melchizedek there arises another priest, 16 who has been made, not after the law of a fleshly commandment, but after the power of an endless life; 17 for it is testified,

"You are a priest forever,

according to the order of Melchizedek."✝7:17 Psalms 110:4

18 For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. 20 Inasmuch as he was not made priest without the taking of an oath 21 (for they indeed have been made priests without an oath), but he with an oath by him that says of him,

"The Lord swore and will not change his mind,

‘You are a priest forever,

according to the order of Melchizedek.’"✝7:21 Psalms 110:4

22 By so much, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant.

23 Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. 24 But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. 25 Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.

26 For such a high priest was fitting for us: holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; 27 who doesn’t need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices daily, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. For he did this once for all, when he offered up himself. 28 For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints a Son forever who has been perfected.
