Romanos 13

Da obediência às autoridades

1 Todo homem esteja *Tt 3.1;1Pe 2.13s.sujeito às autoridades superiores. Pois *Jo 19.11; cp.Dn 2.21;4.17não há autoridade que não venha de Deus; e as que há têm sido ordenadas por Deus. 2 De modo que aquele que se opõe à autoridade resiste à ordenação de Deus; e os que resistem trarão sobre si condenação. 3 Os *1Pe 2.14magistrados não são para temor quando se faz o que é bom, mas quando se faz o que é mau. Queres tu não temer a autoridade? Faze o bem e terás louvor dela, 4 porque a autoridade é ministro de Deus para o teu bem. Mas, se fizeres o mal, teme; porque ela não traz debalde a espada, pois é ministro de Deus, *1Ts 4.6vingador para exercer ira naquele que pratica o mal. 5 É necessário que lhe estejais sujeitos não somente por causa da ira, mas também por *1Pe 2.19; cp.1Pe 2.13;Ec 8.2causa da consciência. 6 Porquanto, por isso, também pagais tributo; pois os magistrados estão ao serviço de Deus, atendendo constantemente a isso mesmo. 7 *Mt 22.21Pagai a todos o que lhes é devido: a quem *Lc 20.22;23.2tributo, tributo; a quem *Mt 17.25imposto, imposto; a quem temor, temor; a quem honra, honra.

O amor é o cumprimento da lei

8 A ninguém devais coisa alguma, senão o amor recíproco; porque *Mt 22.39s.;Gl 5.14;Rm 13.10; cp.Mt 7.12;Jo 13.34;Tg 2.8aquele que ama ao seu próximo tem cumprido a lei. 9 Pois isto: *Êx 22.13ss.;Dt 5.17ss.Não adulterarás, não matarás, não furtarás, não cobiçarás, e, se algum outro mandamento há, nestas palavras se resume: *Lv 19.18;Mt 19.19Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo. 10 O amor não faz mal algum ao próximo; *Mt 22.39s.;Gl 5.14;Rm 13.8; cp.Mt 7.12;Jo 13.34;Tg 2.8o amor é, pois, o cumprimento da lei.

O dia está próximo

11 Digo isso, porque sabeis o tempo, que *1Co 7.29s.;10.11;Tg 5.8;1Pe 4.7;2Pe 3.9,11;1Jo 2.18;Ap 1.3;22.10já é hora de vos *1Co 15.34;Ef 5.14;1Ts 5.6; cp.Mc 13.37despertardes do sono; porque agora está mais perto de nós a salvação do que quando *cp.At 19.2;1Co 3.5;15.2, etc.recebemos a fé. 12 A noite vai adiantada, *Hb 10.25;1Jo 2.8; cp.Ap 1.3;22.10e o dia está próximo. Dispamo-nos, pois, das *Ef 5.11obras das trevas e vistamo-nos *2Co 6.7;10.4;Ef 6.11,13;1Ts 5.8das armas da luz. 13 *1Ts 4.12Andemos honestamente como de dia, *Lc 21.34;Gl 5.21;Ef 5.18;1Pe 4.3não em orgias e bebedices, não em impudicícias e dissoluções, não em contendas e ciúmes; 14 mas *Gl 3.27; cp.Jó 29.14;Ef 4.24;Cl 3.10,12revesti-vos do Senhor Jesus Cristo e não vos preocupeis com a carne *Gl 5.16;1Pe 2.11para não excitardes as suas cobiças.

1 Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God. 2 Therefore he who resists the authority withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the authority, 4 for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil. 5 Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, continually doing this very thing. 7 Therefore give everyone what you owe: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if customs, then customs; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal,"*13:9 TR adds "You shall not give false testimony," "You shall not covet,"✝13:9 Exodus 20:13-15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17-19,21 and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."✝13:9 Leviticus 19:18 10 Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

11 Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light. 13 Let’s walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
