Abraão foi justificado pela fé

1 Que diremos, então, ter conseguido Abraão, nosso progenitor, *Rm 1.3segundo a carne? 2 Porque, se Abraão foi justificado pelas obras, tem de que se gloriar; mas *cp.1Co 1.31não diante de Deus. 3 Pois que diz a Escritura? *Rm 4.9,22;Gn 15.6;Gl 3.6;Tg 2.23E Abraão creu a Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado para justiça. 4 Ao que *Rm 11.6trabalha, não lhe é imputada a recompensa por graça, mas por dívida; 5 porém ao que não trabalha, mas *Rm 3.22; cp.Jo 6.29crê naquele que justifica ao ímpio, a sua fé lhe é imputada para justiça. 6 Do mesmo modo também Davi declara bem-aventurado o homem a quem Deus atribui justiça, sem obras, 7 dizendo:

*Sl 32.1Bem-aventurados aqueles cujas iniquidades são perdoadas, e cujos pecados são cobertos;

8 Bem-aventurado o homem a quem o Senhor *2Co 5.19não imputará pecado.

9 Vem, pois, essa bem-aventurança sobre *Rm 3.30os circuncisos ou também sobre os incircuncisos? Porque *Rm 4.3dizemos: A fé foi imputada a Abraão para justiça. 10 Como, pois, lhe foi imputada? Estando na circuncisão ou na incircuncisão? Não na circuncisão, mas sim na incircuncisão; 11 e *Gn 17.10s.recebeu o sinal da circuncisão, *Jo 3.33selo da justiça da fé que teve quando não era circuncidado; para que fosse ele *Rm 4.16s.; cp.Lc 19.9pai de *Rm 3.22;Rm 4.16todos os que creem, ainda que não sejam circuncidados, a fim de que a justiça lhes fosse imputada; 12 e fosse também pai da circuncisão para aqueles que não somente são da circuncisão, mas que também andam nas pisadas da fé que teve nosso pai Abraão antes de ser circuncidado. 13 *cp.Rm 9.8;Gl 3.16A promessa feita a Abraão ou à sua descendência de *Gn 17.4-6;22.17s.que seria herdeiro do mundo não foi pela Lei, mas pela justiça da fé. 14 Pois, *Gl 3.18se os que são da Lei são herdeiros, fica aniquilada a fé e anulada a promessa. 15 *Rm 7.7,10-25;1Co 15.56;Gl 3.10A Lei provoca ira; mas *Rm 3.20onde não há lei, não há transgressão. 16 Por isso, procede da fé, para que seja segundo a *Rm 3.24graça, a fim de que a promessa seja firme a *Rm 4.11;Rm 9.8;15.8toda a descendência; não só à que procede da lei, mas também à que procede da fé que teve Abraão 17 (que é *Rm 4.11;Gn 17.5pai de todos nós, como está escrito: Eu te hei constituído pai de muitas nações.), diante de Deus, a quem creu, *Jo 5.21o qual vivifica os mortos *cp.Is 48.13;51.2e chama *1Co 1.28as coisas que não são, como se fossem; 18 e, em esperança, ele creu contra a esperança, para que se tornasse *Gn 15.5;Rm 4.17pai de muitas nações, segundo o que se lhe havia dito: Assim será a tua descendência. 19 E, sem se enfraquecer na fé, ele considerou o seu próprio corpo já *Hb 11.12amortecido *Gn 17.17(tendo ele quase cem anos), *Gn 18.11e a velhice de Sara; 20 contudo, à vista da promessa de Deus, não vacilou por desconfiança, mas tornou-se forte pela fé, *Mt 9.8dando glória a Deus, 21 *Rm 14.5e estando plenamente convencido de que Deus é poderoso para também cumprir *Gn 18.14; cp.Hb 11.19o que tem prometido. 22 Pelo que isso lhe *Rm 4.3foi imputado para justiça. 23 Ora, *Rm 15.4;1Co 9.9s.;10.11;2Tm 3.16s.foi escrito, não somente por causa dele, que isso lhe foi imputado, 24 mas também por nossa causa, a quem há de ser imputado, a saber, a nós os *Rm 10.9;1Pe 1.21que cremos naquele que *At 2.24ressuscitou dentre os mortos a Jesus, nosso Senhor, 25 o qual foi *Rm 5.6,8;8.32; cp.Gl 2.20;Ef 5.2entregue por causa das nossas ofensas *1Co 15.17;2Co 5.15; cp.Rm 5.18e ressuscitado por causa da nossa justificação.

1 What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."✝4:3 Genesis 15:6 4 Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed. 5 But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness. 6 Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven,

whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin."✝4:8 Psalms 32:1-2

9 Is this blessing then pronounced only on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness. 10 How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision. 11 He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they might be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them. 12 He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.

13 For the promise to Abraham and to his offspring that he would be heir of the world wasn’t through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect. 15 For the law produces wrath; for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.

16 For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the offspring, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. 17 As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations."✝4:17 Genesis 17:5 This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were. 18 Against hope, Abraham in hope believed, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, "So will your offspring be."✝4:18 Genesis 15:5 19 Without being weakened in faith, he didn’t consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform. 22 Therefore it also was "credited to him for righteousness."✝4:22 Genesis 15:6 23 Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone, 24 but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
