1 Οι αρχηγοί του λαού εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Από τον υπόλοιπο λαό ορίστηκαν με κλήρωση μία στις δέκα οικογένειες να εγκατασταθεί στην Ιερουσαλήμ, την αγία πόλη, ενώ τα εννιά δέκατα των οικογενειών θα έμεναν στις άλλες πόλεις. 2 Ο λαός επαίνεσε ιδιαίτερα όλους όσοι προσφέρθηκαν με τη θέλησή τους να κατοικήσουν στην Ιερουσαλήμ.

3 Οι αρχηγοί της επαρχίας εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ, ενώ οι άλλοι Ισραηλίτες, οι ιερείς, οι λευίτες, οι υπηρέτες του ναού και οι απόγονοι των δούλων του Σολομώντα*των δούλων του Σολομώντα. Βλ. υποσ. εις Εσδ 2:55. εγκαταστάθηκαν στις πόλεις της Ιουδαίας, καθένας στη πόλη του και στην ιδιοκτησία του.

4 Μερικοί ωστόσο από τους απογόνους του Ιούδα και του Βενιαμίν εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ.

Από τους απογόνους του Ιούδα ήταν ο Αθαΐας, γιος του Ουζία, απόγονος κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή των Ζαχαρία, Αμαρία, Σεφατία, Μααλαλεήλ και Φαρές, γιου του Ιούδα. 5 Επίσης ο Μαασίας, γιος του Βαρούχ και εγγονός του Κολ-Χοζέ, απόγονος κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή των Χαζαΐα, Αδαΐα, Ιωιαρίβ, Ζαχαρία και Σηλωνί, γιου του Ιούδα. 6 Όλοι οι απόγονοι του Φαρές, που ζούσαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ, ήταν τετρακόσιοι εξήντα οκτώ αξιόλογοι άντρες.

7 Από τους απογόνους του Βενιαμίν ήταν ο Σαλλού, γιος του Μεσουλλάμ. Οι άλλοι του πρόγονοι κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή ήταν οι Ιωάδ, Πεδαΐας, Κωλαΐας, Μαασεΐας, Ιθιήλ, και Ιεσαΐας. 8 Μαζί μ’ αυτόν ήταν ο Γαββαεί και ο Σελλαΐ, συνολικά εννιακόσιοι είκοσι οχτώ Βενιαμινίτες. 9 Ο Ιωήλ, γιος του Ζιχρί, ήταν αρχηγός αυτής της ομάδας και ο Ιούδας, γιος του Σενουά, ήταν βοηθός του αρχηγού της πόλης.

10 Από τους ιερείς ήταν ο Ιεδαΐας, γιος του Ιωϊαρίβ, ο Ιαχείν, 11 κι ο Σεραΐας, που ήταν υπεύθυνος του ναού του Θεού και γιος του Χελκία, απόγονος κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή των Μεσουλλάμ, Σαδώκ, Μεραϊώθ και Αχιτούβ. 12 Μαζί μ’ αυτούς ιερείς ήταν και οχτακόσιοι είκοσι δύο συγγενείς τους, που έκαναν τις εργασίες του ναού.

Επίσης ο Αδαΐας, γιος του Ιεροχάμ, απόγονος κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή των Πελαλία, Αμσί, Ζαχαρία, Πασχούρ και Μαλκία, 13 μαζί με διακόσιους σαράντα δύο συγγενείς του, αρχηγούς οικογενειών.

Επίσης ο Αμασσαΐ, γιος του Αζαρεήλ, απόγονος των Αχζαΐ, Μεσιλεμώθ και Ιμμέρ, 14 μαζί με εκατόν είκοσι οκτώ γενναίους στρατιώτες συγγενείς του. Αρχηγός τους ήταν ο Ζαβδιήλ, γιος του Αγεδολίμ.

15 Από τους λευίτες ήταν ο Σεμαΐας, γιος του Χασσούβ, απόγονος των Αζρικάμ, Χασαβία και Βουννί. 16 Από τους επικεφαλής των λευιτών, ο Σαβεθάι και ο Ιωζαβάδ ήταν υπεύθυνοι για τις εξωτερικές εργασίες του ναού του Θεού.

17 Επίσης ο Ματτανίας, γιος του Μιχά, απόγονος των Ζαβδί και Ασάφ. Ο Ματτανίας ήταν υποχρεωμένος να αρχίζει τα άσματα των ευχαριστιών την ώρα της προσευχής και ο Βακβουκίας, συγγενής του Ματτανία, ήταν βοηθός του.

Τέλος ο Αβδά, γιος του Σαμουά, απόγονος του Γαλάλ και του Ιεδουθούν.

18 Όλοι οι λευίτες που βρίσκονταν στην αγία πόλη ήταν διακόσιοι ογδόντα τέσσερις.

19 Θυρωροί ήταν ο Ακούβ και ο Ταλμών μαζί με τους συγγενείς τους, που φύλαγαν σκοπιά στις πύλες του ναού, συνολικά εκατόν εβδομήντα δύο άτομα.

20 Οι υπόλοιποι Ισραηλίτες, οι ιερείς και οι λευίτες ζούσαν διάσπαρτοι στις πόλεις της Ιουδαίας, καθένας στην ιδιοκτησία του.

21 Οι υπηρέτες του ναού ζούσαν στη συνοικία της Οφήλ· επικεφαλής τους ήταν ο Σιχά και ο Γισπά.

22 Επικεφαλής των λευιτών στην Ιερουσαλήμ ήταν ο Ουζζί, γιος του Βανί, και απόγονος κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή των Χασαβία, Ματτανία και Μιχά. Ήταν ψάλτης, μέλος της συγγένειας του Ασάφ, η οποία ήταν υπεύθυνη για τη λατρευτική υπηρεσία στο ναό του Θεού. 23 Οι μουσικοί υπάγονταν σε μια παλαιά βασιλική διάταξη και σε ορισμένες ρυθμίσεις σχετικά με τα καθήκοντα της κάθε μέρας.

24 Ο Πεθαχίας, γιος του Μασεζαλεήλ κι απόγονος του Ζεράχ, γιου του Ιούδα, εκπροσωπούσε για κάθε υπόθεση το λαό του Ισραήλ στην αυλή του βασιλιά της Περσίας.

25 Στις παρακάτω πόλεις εγκαταστάθηκαν μερικοί της φυλής Ιούδα: Κιριάθ-Αρβά και τα προάστειά της, Διβών και τα προάστειά της, Ιεκκαβσεήλ και τα περίχωρά της· 26 Ιησού, Μωλαδά, Βαιθ-Παλέτ, 27 Χασάρ-Σουάλ, Βέερ-Σεβά και τα προάστειά τους· 28 Σικλάγ, Μεκονά και τα προάστειά τους· 29 Εν-Ριμμών, Σωρεά, Ιαρμούθ, 30 Ζανωάχ, Αδουλλάμ και τα χωράφια τους· Λαχίς και τα περίχωρά της, Αζεκά και τα προάστειά της. Έτσι όλοι αυτοί εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή από τη Βέερ-Σεβά ως την κοιλάδα Εννόμ.

31 Οι τόποι εγκατάστασης ορισμένων της φυλής Βενιαμίν ήταν οι πόλεις: Γεβά, Μιχμάς, Γαι, Βαιθήλ και τα περίχωρά τους· 32 Αναθώθ, Νωβ, Ανανία, 33 Ασώρ, Ραμάθ, Γιτταΐμ, 34 Χαδίδ, Σεβωίμ, Νεβαλλάτ, 35 Λοδ, Ωνώ και η Κοιλάδα των Τεχνιτών. 36 Μερικές ομάδες λευιτών έφυγαν από την Ιουδαία και εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή της φυλής Βενιαμίν.

1 And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities. 2 And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

3 Now these are the chief of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, to wit, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants. 4 And at Jerusalem dwelt certain of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin. Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalaleel, of the children of Perez;*11.4 Perez: also called, Pharez 5 And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shiloni. 6 All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men. 7 And these are the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jesaiah. 8 And after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight. 9 And Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer: and Judah the son of Senuah was second over the city. 10 Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin. 11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God. 12 And their brethren that did the work of the house were eight hundred twenty and two: and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchiah, 13 And his brethren, chief of the fathers, two hundred forty and two: and Amashai the son of Azareel, the son of Ahasai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer, 14 And their brethren, mighty men of valour, an hundred twenty and eight: and their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of one of the great men.*11.14 the son…: or, the son of Haggedolim 15 Also of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hashub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; 16 And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chief of the Levites, had the oversight of the outward business of the house of God.*11.16 had…: Heb. were over 17 And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. 18 All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four. 19 Moreover the porters, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren that kept the gates, were an hundred seventy and two.*11.19 the gates: Heb. at the gates

20 And the residue of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance. 21 But the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gispa were over the Nethinims.*11.21 Ophel: or, the tower 22 The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micha. Of the sons of Asaph, the singers were over the business of the house of God. 23 For it was the king’s commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, due for every day.*11.23 a certain…: or, a sure ordinance 24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabeel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in all matters concerning the people.*11.24 Zerah: also called, Zarah 25 And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kirjath-arba, and in the villages thereof, and at Dibon, and in the villages thereof, and at Jekabzeel, and in the villages thereof, 26 And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Beth-phelet, 27 And at Hazar-shual, and at Beer-sheba, and in the villages thereof, 28 And at Ziklag, and at Mekonah, and in the villages thereof, 29 And at En-rimmon, and at Zareah, and at Jarmuth, 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and in their villages, at Lachish, and the fields thereof, at Azekah, and in the villages thereof. And they dwelt from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom. 31 The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Aija, and Beth-el, and in their villages,*11.31 from: or, of*11.31 at: or, to 32 And at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36 And of the Levites were divisions in Judah, and in Benjamin.
