1 Μες στην καρδιά του κάνει σχέδια ο άνθρωπος, μα την απάντηση την τελική ο Κύριος τη δίνει.

2 Του ανθρώπου όλοι οι δρόμοι τού φαντάζουν καθαροί, μα ο Κύριος σταθμίζει τις διαθέσεις.

3 Τα έργα σου στον Κύριο εμπιστέψου τα και οι σκοποί σου θα εκπληρωθούν.

4 Ο Κύριος όλα τα ’φτιαξε μ’ ένα σκοπό καθένα· ακόμα και τον ασεβή για του όλεθρου τη μέρα.

5 Ο Κύριος απεχθάνεται κάθε αλαζονική καρδιά, και βέβαια δεν θα μείνει ατιμώρητη.

6 Με την αλήθεια και τη χάρη η ανομία ξεπλένεται και με το φόβο του Κυρίου φεύγει κανείς απ’ το κακό.

7 Όταν ο Κύριος ευχαριστείται με κάποιου τη διαγωγή, τον συμφιλιώνει και με τους εχθρούς του.

8 Πιότερο αξίζει λιγοστό και με δικαιοσύνη, παρά εισοδήματα πολλά φτιαγμένα με αδικία.

9 Του ανθρώπου μελετά η καρδιά τι πρόκειται να κάνει, αλλά τα βήματά του τα κατευθύνει ο Κύριος.

10 Στου βασιλιά τα χείλη ένας χρησμός είναι θεόπνευστος· το στόμα του δεν ξαστοχάει στην κρίση.

11 Η ζυγαριά κι η πλάστιγγα η ακριβοδίκαιη στον Κύριο ανήκουν· όλα τα ζύγια μες στο σάκο είν’ έργα του.

12 Είναι αποτρόπαιο οι βασιλιάδες ν’ ασεβούν, γιατί το θρόνο τον στεριώνει η δικαιοσύνη.

13 Τα δίκαια χείλη δίνουνε χαρά στους βασιλιάδες, αγαπούν εκείνον που σωστά μιλάει.

14 Είν’ ο θυμός του βασιλιά προμήνυμα θανάτου, μα ξέρει να τον ημερεύει ο σοφός.

15 Του βασιλιά το πρόσωπο δίνει ζωή όταν λάμπει, και μοιάζει η εύνοιά του με σύννεφο ανοιξιάτικης βροχής.

16 Πόσο καλύτερο σοφία ν’ αποκτάς παρά χρυσάφι! Και πόσο προτιμότερο σύνεση ν’ αποκτάς παρά ασήμι!

17 Ο δρόμος των ίσιων ανθρώπων είναι να φεύγουν πέρα απ’ το κακό. Όποιος τις πράξεις του προσέχει, τη ζωή του διατηρεί.

18 Πριν απ’ τον όλεθρο πάει η αλαζονεία, και πριν από την πτώση το πνεύμα το υπεροπτικό.

19 Πιότερο αξίζει ταπεινός να είσαι με τους ταπεινούς, παρά με τους περήφανους λάφυρα να μοιράζεσαι.

20 Όποιος με φρόνηση ενεργεί θα ωφεληθεί· κι όποιος στον Κύριο ελπίζει θα ’ναι ευτυχισμένος.

21 Ο σοφός άνθρωπος γνωρίζεται για φρόνιμος· κι όσο τα χείλη του είν’ γλυκά, τόσο πιότερο πείθουν.

22 Η φρόνηση σ’ αυτόν που την έχει, χαρίζει τη ζωή· οι ανόητοι όμως τιμωρούνται με την ανοησία τους.

23 Η καρδιά του σοφού το στόμα του το κάνει φρόνιμο, και πιότερο τα χείλη του τα κάνει πειστικά.

24 Τα λόγια τα ευχάριστα είναι κερήθρα μέλι, γλύκα για την ψυχή και γιατρειά στα κόκαλα.

25 Βλέπει ένα δρόμο κάποιος και τον θαρρεί σωστό, μα κείνος τελικά φέρνει στο θάνατο.

26 Όποιος εργάζεται, για λόγου του δουλεύει, γιατί τον σφίγγει η πείνα του.

27 Ο κακός άνθρωπος κακό ετοιμάζει· τα χείλη του είν’ σαν άσβηστη φωτιά.

28 Ο διεστραμμένος τη φιλονικία σπέρνει, χωρίζει ο συκοφάντης φίλους στενούς.

29 Ο άνθρωπος ο βίαιος παραπλανά το διπλανό του, τον οδηγεί σε δρόμο που δεν είν’ καλός.

30 Όποιος τα φρύδια του ζαρώνει, διεστραμμένα σκέφτεται· τα χείλη του δαγκώνει κι ολοκληρώνει το κακό.

31 Η λευκασμένη κεφαλή είναι τιμητικό στεφάνι· γιατί η μακροζωία είν’ των δικαίων ανταμοιβή.

32 Πιότερο αξίζει ο υπομονετικός από το χεροδύναμο· κι εκείνος που στο πνεύμα του κυριαρχεί, από τον άλλο, που κυριεύει πόλη.

33 Ο κλήρος ρίχνεται στην κάλπη, αλλά η απόφαση προέρχεται απ’ τον Κύριο.*Υπαινιγμός για τη χρησιμοποίηση των ιερών κλήρων, προκειμένου να γίνει γνωστή η θέληση του Θεού.
