1 Ο ακοινώνητος δεν νοιάζεται παρά για ό,τι ο ίδιος θέλει, κι εναντιώνεται σε όλα.

2 Δε βρίσκει ο ανόητος στη φρόνηση ευχαρίστηση, μα μόνο στην επίδειξη των σκέψεών του.

3 Όταν έρχεται ο ασεβής, έρχεται και η περιφρόνηση μαζί του· και με την ατιμία μαζί έρχεται κι η ντροπή.

4 Τα λόγια του σοφού είναι βαθιά νερά, πηγή σοφίας, χείμαρρος που πλημμυράει.

5 Στην κρίση δεν είναι καλό να ευνοείται ο ένοχος, κι ο αθώος να εμποδίζεται το δίκιο του να βρει.

6 Τα χείλη του ανόητου φέρνουν φιλονικία και προκαλεί το στόμα του ξυλοδαρμούς.

7 Το στόμα του ανόητου είν’ η καταστροφή του, παγίδα για τον ίδιο είναι τα χείλη του.

8 Του συκοφάντη τα λεγόμενα είναι σαν λιχουδιές, που ως της κοιλιάς τα βάθη κατεβαίνουν.

9 Αυτός που ’ναι τεμπέλης στη δουλειά του, είναι του χαλαστή αδερφός.

10 Ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, είναι πύργος ισχυρός· εκεί ο δίκαιος καταφεύγει και είναι ασφαλής.

11 Ο πλούσιος θεωρεί τ’ αγαθά του οχυρωμένη πόλη και τα φαντάζεται σαν τείχος ψηλό.

12 Πριν από την καταστροφή περηφανεύεται του ανθρώπου η καρδιά· μα η ταπείνωση πάει μπροστά απ’ τη δόξα.

13 Εκείνος που αποκρίνεται χωρίς ν’ ακούσει πρώτα, κάνει μια πράξη ανόητη κι εξευτελιστική.

14 Το ακμαίο ηθικό του ανθρώπου θα τον στηρίξει στην αρρώστια του· μα ποιος θα ανορθώσει ένα πεσμένο ηθικό;

15 Του μυαλωμένου η καρδιά αποζητά τη σύνεση, και των σοφών το αυτί ζητάει ν’ ακούει τη γνώση.

16 Το δώρο δρόμο ανοίγει για τον άνθρωπο, και στους μεγάλους μπρος τον οδηγεί.

17 Όποιος στη δίκη του μιλάει πρώτος, φαίνεται να ’χει δίκιο· μα έρχεται ο αντίδικός του και τα λεγόμενά του τα αντικρούει.

18 Ο κλήρος σταματά των αντιδίκων τις φιλονικίες, και βγάζει αυτός απόφαση ανάμεσα στους ισχυρούς.

19 Ο προσβλημένος αδερφός γίνεται πιο δυσπρόσιτος κι απ’ την οχυρωμένη πόλη· οι διαμάχες τους είναι πεισματικές, σαν του φρουρίου τους μοχλούς.

20 Απ’ τον καρπό του στόματός του τρέφεται ο άνθρωπος· θα δοκιμάσει τις συνέπειες αυτών που λέει.

21 Ζωή και θάνατος είναι στην εξουσία της γλώσσας· κι όσοι αγαπούν να λεν’ πολλά, τους καρπούς της θα γευτούν.

22 Όποιος βρήκε καλή γυναίκα, βρήκε την ευτυχία· έχει ευνοηθεί από τον Κύριο.

23 Μιλάει ικετευτικά ο φτωχός, κι ο πλούσιος με σκληρότητα αποκρίνεται.

24 Υπάρχουν φίλοι που καταστρέφει ο ένας τον άλλο· μα είν’ και φίλοι πιστότεροι κι από αδερφό.
