1 Η Σοφία*Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 1:20. έχτισε το σπίτι της με τους εφτά ωραίους στύλους του. 2 Τα ζώα της έσφαξε, το κρασί της ανάμειξε κι έστρωσε το τραπέζι της. 3 Έστειλε τις δούλες της και καλεί πάνω από τα ψηλώματα της πόλης: 4 «Ο αμαθής ας έρθει κατά ’δω!» και στους ανόητους λέει: 5 «Ελάτε, φάτε απ’ το ψωμί μου και πιέστε απ’ το κρασί που ανάμειξα! 6 Εγκαταλείψτε την αμάθεια και θα ζήσετε· βαδίστε ίσια στης νόησης το δρόμο».

7 Όποιος διορθώνει χλευαστή, τις προσβολές του θα δεχτεί κι όποιος ελέγχει ασεβή δέχεται κατηγόριες. 8 Μην τον διορθώνεις το χλευαστή, γιατί θα σε μισήσει· σοφό να ελέγχεις και θα σε αγαπήσει. 9 Στο σοφό δώσε αφορμή και πιότερο σοφός θα γίνει. Τον δίκαιο δίδαξε και πιότερα θα μάθει. 10 Η βάση της σοφίας είναι ο σεβασμός στον Κύριο, βάση της νόησης είν’ η γνώση του Άγιου Θεού. 11 Χάρη σ’ εμένα, τη σοφία, θα αυξηθούν οι μέρες σου και ζωής χρόνια θα σου προστεθούν. 12 Σοφός αν γίνεις, θα ’ναι για το δικό σου το καλό. Αν είσαι υπερόπτης, πάλι εσύ θα υποφέρεις.

13 Η ανοησία μοιάζει με γυναίκα αδιάντροπη κι άμυαλη, δίχως γνώση. 14 Στην πόρτα του σπιτιού της κάθεται σε θρόνο, στης πόλης τα ψηλώματα, 15 και τους διαβάτες προσκαλεί, που ίσια τραβούν στο δρόμο τους: 16 «Όποιος είναι άμυαλος ας έρθει κατά ’δω!» Και στον ανόητο λέει: 17 «Τα κλεμμένα νερά είναι γλυκά, και το ψωμί που τρώγεται κρυφά, είν’ ευχάριστο». 18 Μα αυτοί δεν ξέρουν ότι είν’ εκεί ο θάνατος κι ότι οι καλεσμένοι της πάνε στα βάθη του άδη.

1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: 2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.*9.2 her beasts: Heb. her killing 3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, 4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. 6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. 7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. 11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. 12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. 14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, 15 To call passengers who go right on their ways: 16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.*9.17 eaten…: Heb. of secrecies 18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
