1 Κάλλιο ένα ξεροκόμματο ψωμί και με ηρεμία, παρά ένα σπίτι με ψητά γεμάτο, και διχόνοια.

2 Ο δούλος που ’ναι φρόνιμος θα εξουσιάσει τον ανάξιο γιο, και με τους αδερφούς μαζί θα ’χει μερίδιο στην κληρονομιά.

3 Το ασήμι δοκιμάζεται στο χωνευτήρι και το χρυσάφι στο καμίνι· μα ο Κύριος δοκιμάζει τις καρδιές.

4 Τα λόγια τα άνομα ο κακός τα προσέχει· ο ψεύτης δίνει προσοχή στα λόγια τα ασεβή.

5 Όποιος περιγελάει φτωχόν, τον πλάστη του προσβάλλει· όποιος στη δυστυχία του άλλου χαίρεται, δε θα μείνει ατιμώρητος.

6 Τα εγγόνια είναι καμάρι για τους γέροντες κι οι πατεράδες τους καύχημα για τα παιδιά.

7 Λόγια υπέροχα δεν ταιριάζουν στον ανόητο· πολύ λιγότερο στον άρχοντα ψεύτικα λόγια.

8 Όποιος προσφέρει δώρο, το θαρρεί πως είναι μαγικό πετράδι· όπου και να στραφεί μ’ αυτό, έχει επιτυχίες.

9 Όποιος φιλία αποζητά, τα λάθη τα σκεπάζει· όταν τα ξαναφέρνει στην κουβέντα, η φιλία σπάει.

10 Πιότερο νιώθει μία επίπληξη ο συνετός, παρά ο ανόητος χτυπήματα εκατό.

11 Το μόνο που ζητάει ο κακός είναι να στασιάζει, αλλά σκληρός προμηνυτής για κείνον θα σταλεί.

12 Καλύτερο το συναπάντημα με αρκούδα που της πήραν τα μικρά της, παρά με ανόητο την ώρα που παραφρονεί.

13 Αν το κακό αντί καλού ανταποδίδεις, δε θα σου λείψει το κακό ποτέ απ’ το σπίτι σου.

14 Ν’ αρχίζεις μια φιλονικία είναι ως να σπάζεις ένα φράγμα και να χυμάνε τα νερά· προτού η διαμάχη ανάψει παραιτήσου.

15 Εκείνος που τον ένοχο τον αθωώνει κι εκείνος που καταδικάζει τον αθώο, είναι κι οι δυο εξίσου μισητοί στον Κύριο.

16 Τι χρησιμεύουνε τα χρήματα στου ανόητου το χέρι; σοφία ν’ αγοράσει; Μα αφού του λείπει το μυαλό!

17 Σ’ όλες τις περιστάσεις αγαπάει ο φίλος· κι ο αδερφός γεννιέται για να παραστέκεται στις δύσκολες στιγμές.

18 Ανόητος είν’ ο άνθρωπος που το χέρι του δίνει*Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 6:1. και για τον διπλανό του μπαίνει εγγυητής.

19 Όποιος τις διαμάχες αγαπά, την αμαρτία αγαπάει· όποιος περηφανεύεται γυρεύει την καταστροφή.

20 Η διεστραμμένη η καρδιά καλό δεν βλέπει, κι όποιος στα λόγια του είναι διεστραμμένος πέφτει σε συμφορά.

21 Όποιος γεννάει ανόητον, για βάσανό του τον γεννά· του ανόητου ο πατέρας χαρά δεν δοκιμάζει.

22 Καρδιά χαρούμενη είναι φάρμακο καλό, αλλά θλιμμένο πνεύμα ξεραίνει τα κόκαλα.

23 Ο ασεβής δέχεται δώρα στα κρυφά, τη δίκαιη κρίση για να τη διαστρέψει.

24 Το πρόσωπο του φρόνιμου αντικρύζει τη σοφία, ενώ του ανόητου τα μάτια στρέφονται πότε εδώ και πότε εκεί.

25 Ο γιος ο ανόητος είν’ θλίψη του πατέρα του κι εκείνης που τον γέννησε η πίκρα.

26 Καλό δεν είναι να τιμωρείται ο δίκαιος ούτε κι οι ευγενείς να κατατρέχονται για την ευθύτητά τους.

27 Τα λόγια του όποιος συγκρατεί είναι γνωστικός, κι εκείνος που ’χει υπομονή είναι φρόνιμος.

28 Ακόμη κι ο ανόητος όταν σωπαίνει περνιέται για σοφός· κι όποιος κλείνει το στόμα του, για φρόνιμος.
