1 Φεύγουν οι ασεβείς χωρίς κανείς να τους καταδιώκει, ενώ σαν τα λιοντάρια θαρραλέοι είναι οι δίκαιοι.

2 Όταν μια χώρα είναι σ’ αναταραχή, πολλοί γίνονται άρχοντες· ενώ με έναν άνθρωπο που έχει φρόνηση και γνώση, η τάξη θα παγιωθεί.

3 Ένας φτωχός που καταπιέζει τους φτωχούς, είναι σαν τη ραγδαία βροχή που καταστρέφει τη σοδειά.

4 Όσοι το νόμο εγκαταλείπουν επαινούν τους ασεβείς, αλλά τους αντιμάχονται όσοι τηρούν το νόμο.

5 Από δικαιοσύνη τίποτα δε νιώθουν οι άνθρωποι οι κακοί, αλλά καταλαβαίνουνε τα πάντα όσοι ζητούν τον Κύριο.

6 Κάλλιο ο φτωχός που τίμια ζει, παρά όποιος ζει διεστραμμένα, έστω κι αν είναι πλούσιος.

7 Όποιος το νόμο ακολουθεί είναι γιος μυαλωμένος, μα όποιος πάει μ’ ακόλαστους ντροπιάζει τον πατέρα του.

8 Όποιος πληθαίνει τ’ αγαθά του με τοκογλυφίες, τα βλέπει να περνούν σ’ εκείνον που τους φτωχούς σπλαχνίζεται.

9 Αν τ’ αυτιά του κλείνει κάποιος για να μην ακούει το νόμο, και την προσευχή του ακόμα τη σιχαίνεται ο Θεός.

10 Όποιος παρασύρει ίσιους ανθρώπους να κάνουν το κακό, θα πέσει ο ίδιος μες στο λάκκο που ’χει σκάψει. Οι τίμιοι θα αμειφθούν με αγαθά.

11 Ο πλούσιος περνάει τον εαυτό του για σοφό· αλλά ο φτωχός που ’χει μυαλό τον ερευνά σε βάθος.

12 Όταν οι δίκαιοι θριαμβεύουν, η δόξα είναι μεγάλη· μα όταν οι ασεβείς φτάνουν ψηλά, καθένας κρύβεται.

13 Όποιος τις αμαρτίες του κρύβει δεν θα μπορέσει να προκόψει· μα όποιος τις ομολογεί και τις εγκαταλείπει, αυτός θα ελεηθεί.

14 Ευτυχισμένος ο άνθρωπος που πάντα στο Θεό έχει σέβας, μα όποιος σκληραίνει την καρδιά του, πέφτει σε συμφορά.

15 Λιοντάρι που βρυχάται και πεινασμένη αρκούδα είναι ο ασεβής που κυβερνάει φτωχό λαό.

16 Άρχοντας δίχως φρόνηση όλο και καταδυναστεύει· μα όποιος μισεί την απληστία θα κυβερνάει χρόνους πολλούς.

17 Άνθρωπος ένοχος για φόνο, πάει ολοταχώς στον τάφο του· κανένας να τον σταματήσει δεν μπορεί.

18 Αυτός που μ’ εντιμότητα βαδίζει, θα σωθεί· αλλά ο διεστραμμένος, που δυο πορείες ακολουθεί, σε μια απ’ τις δυο θα πέσει.

19 Όποιος καλλιεργεί τη γη του, θα χορτάσει το ψωμί· μα όποιος αυταπάτες κυνηγάει, θε να χορτάσει φτώχεια.

20 Θα ’χει πολλές ο τίμιος ευλογίες· ενώ όποιος να πλουτίσει βιάζεται, σε δυστυχία θα πέσει.

21 Καλό δεν είναι να μεροληπτεί κανείς· αλλά υπάρχουν δικαστές που και για μια μπουκιά ψωμί μπορούνε ν’ αμαρτήσουν.

22 Άνθρωπος που φθονεί, βιάζεται να πλουτίσει· και δε γνωρίζει πως η φτώχεια θα τον βρει.

23 Όποιος τους άλλους διορθώνει, στο τέλος περισσότερη βρίσκει ευγνωμοσύνη, παρά όποιος έχει λόγια κολακείας.

24 Αυτός που κλέβει τον πατέρα και τη μάνα του και λέει «δεν είναι αμαρτία», αυτός είναι όμοιος με ληστή.

25 Ο άπληστος διχόνοιες προκαλεί, ενώ αυτός που έχει πεποίθηση στον Κύριο, όλα άφθονα θα τα ’χει.

26 Όποιος έχει πεποίθηση στον εαυτό του είναι ανόητος· μα όποιος βαδίζει με σοφία είναι ασφαλής.

27 Αυτός που δίνει στο φτωχό, δεν θα γνωρίσει στέρηση· μα αυτόν που κάνει πως δε βλέπει, πολλοί θα τον καταραστούν.

28 Όταν φτάνουν ψηλά οι ασεβείς, καθένας κρύβεται· μα όταν εκείνοι χάνονται, οι δίκαιοι πληθαίνουν.
