1 Όλοι οι Ισραηλίτες ήταν εγγεγραμμένοι κατά οικογένειες στο Βιβλίο των Βασιλιάδων του Ισραήλ.

Οι κάτοικοι του βασιλείου του Ιούδα είχαν οδηγηθεί αιχμάλωτοι στη Βαβυλώνα εξαιτίας της απιστίας τους. 2 Οι πρώτοι που επέστρεψαν στις πόλεις του Ιούδα, στις ιδιοκτησίες των προγόνων τους, ήταν ένα μέρος του λαού, ιερείς, λευίτες και υπηρέτες του ναού. 3 Όσοι ακολούθησαν, ήταν απόγονοι των φυλών Ιούδα, Βενιαμίν, Εφραΐμ και Μανασσή, κι εγκαταστάθηκαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ.

4 Από τους απογόνους της φυλής Ιούδα ήταν ο Ουθαΐ, γιος του Αμμιούδ. Άλλοι πρόγονοί του κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή ήταν ο Αμρί, ο Ιμρί και ο Βανί, οι οποίοι ανήκαν στη συγγένεια του Φαρές, γιου του Ιούδα. 5 Από τη συγγένεια των Σηλωνιτών προέρχονταν ο Ασαΐας –πρωτότοκος– και οι γιοι του. 6 Από τη συγγένεια του Ζεράχ προερχόταν ο Ιεωήλ. Όλοι αυτοί οι απόγονοι του Ιούδα, μαζί με τους συγγενείς τους, ήταν εξακόσιοι ενενήντα αρχηγοί οικογενειών.

7 Από τους απογόνους της φυλής Βενιαμίν προερχόταν ο Σαλλού, γιος του Μεσουλλάμ, εγγονός του Ωδαβία και δισέγγονος του Ασενουά. 8 Επίσης ο Ιβνεϊά, γιος του Ιεροχάμ· ο Ελά, γιος του Ουζί και εγγονός του Μιχρί και ο Μεσουλλάμ, γιος του Σεφατία, εγγονός του Ρεγουήλ και δισέγγονος του Ιβνιά. 9 Όλοι αυτοί σύμφωνα με τους γενεαλογικούς καταλόγους, ανήκαν στη φυλή Βενιαμίν· και μαζί με τους συγγενείς τους ήταν εννιακόσιοι πενήντα έξι αρχηγοί οικογενειών.

10 Από τους ιερείς προέρχονταν οι Ιεωϊαδά, Ιωιαρίβ, Ιαχίν 11 και ο Αζαρίας, γιος του Χελκία· πρόγονοί του κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή ήταν οι Μεσουλλάμ, Σαδώκ, Μεραϊώθ και Αχιτώβ, ο προϊστάμενος του ναού του Θεού. 12 Επίσης ο Αδαΐα, γιος του Ιεροχάμ, που πρόγονοί του κατ’ ευθείαν ανιούσα γραμμή ήταν οι Πασχούρ και Μαλκίας. Επίσης ο Μαασιαΐ, γιος του Αβδιήλ· πρόγονοί του ήταν οι Ιαχζερά, Μεσουλλάμ, Μεσιλλεμίθ και Ιμμέρ. 13 Μαζί με τους άλλους ιερείς, αυτοί οι αρχηγοί οικογενειών ήταν συνολικά χίλια εφτακόσια εξήντα άτομα, όλοι τους άντρες ικανοί και άξιοι για την υπηρεσία του ναού του Θεού.

14 Από τους λευίτες, απογόνους του Μεραρί, προερχόταν ο Σεμαΐας, γιος του Χασσούβ, εγγονός του Αζρικάμ και δισέγγονος του Χασαβία. 15 Από τους απογόνους του Ασάφ προέρχονταν οι Βακβακάρ, Χερές, Γαλάλ και Ματτανίας, γιος του Μιχά. 16 Από τους απογόνους του Ιεδοθούν προερχόταν ο Οβαδία, γιος του Σεμαΐα και εγγονός του Γαλαάλ. Τέλος ο Βερεχίας, γιος του Ασά και εγγονός του Ελκανά· αυτός κατοικούσε στα χωριά των Νετωφαθιτών.

17 Ανάμεσα στους θυρωρούς του ναού ήταν οι Σαλλούμ, Ακκούβ, Ταλμών, Αχιμάν και οι συγγενείς τους. Ο Σαλλούμ ήταν ο προϊστάμενος. 18 Ακόμα ως τις μέρες μας, δικοί τους απόγονοι είναι τοποθετημένοι στην ανατολική πύλη, την πύλη του βασιλιά.

Παλαιότερα, οι πρόγονοί τους ήταν θυρωροί στα στρατόπεδα των λευιτών. 19 Ο Σαλλούμ, γιος του Κορέ, εγγονός του Αβιασάφ και δισέγγονος του Κορά, καθώς και οι συγγενείς του από την πατρική του οικογένεια, οι Κορίτες, υπηρετούσαν ως φρουροί της εισόδου της σκηνής του Μαρτυρίου· οι πρόγονοί τους ήταν φύλακες της εισόδου του στρατοπέδου του Κυρίου. 20 Προϊστάμενός του παλαιότερα ήταν ο Φινεές, γιος του Ελεάζαρ –ο Κύριος να ’ναι μαζί του!*ο Κύριος... μαζί του. Η φρ. αποτελεί την πρώτη μαρτυρία του ιουδαϊκού εθίμου να προστίθεται μια ευχή όταν γίνεται αναφορά σε σπουδαία πρόσωπα.21 Ο Ζαχαρίας, γιος του Μεσελεμία, ήταν επίσης θυρωρός της σκηνής του Μαρτυρίου.

22 Αυτοί που είχαν επιλεγεί ως θυρωροί του ναού ήταν συνολικά διακόσια δώδεκα άτομα. Ήταν όλοι εγγεγραμμένοι σε γενεαλογικούς καταλόγους στα χωριά τους. Στο αξίωμά τους τούς είχε τοποθετήσει ο Δαβίδ και ο Σαμουήλ, ο Βλέπων. 23 Έτσι αυτοί και οι απόγονοί τους συνέχισαν να φρουρούν τις πύλες του ναού του Κυρίου, δηλαδή του αγιαστηρίου της σκηνής. 24 Οι θυρωροί ήταν τοποθετημένοι στις τέσσερις πόρτες, ανατολικά, δυτικά, βόρεια και νότια. 25 Άλλοι θυρωροί, που ζούσαν στα χωριά τους, έρχονταν κατά ορισμένα διαστήματα να υπηρετήσουν μαζί τους για εφτά μέρες. 26 Οι τέσσερις μόνιμοι αρχιθυρωροί ήταν λευίτες και είχαν την ευθύνη να επιβλέπουν τους χώρους και τους θησαυρούς του ναού του Θεού. 27 Διανυκτέρευαν κοντά στο ναό, αφού αυτοί είχαν αναλάβει τη φρούρηση και το άνοιγμα του ναού κάθε πρωί.

28 Άλλοι λευίτες ήταν υπεύθυνοι για τα σκεύη της λατρείας· τα μετρούσαν όταν τα έβγαζαν για να τα χρησιμοποιήσουν και όταν τα ξανάβαζαν στη θέση τους. 29 Άλλοι απ’ αυτούς είχαν την ευθύνη να επιβλέπουν τα υπόλοιπα ιερά αντικείμενα και σκεύη· επίσης το σιμιγδάλι, το κρασί, το λάδι, το λιβάνι και τα αρώματα. 30 Αλλά το μείγμα των αρωμάτων παρασκευαζόταν μονάχα από ιερείς. 31 Ο Ματταθίας, ένας από τους λευίτες, πρωτότοκος γιος του Σαλλούμ, από τη συγγένεια του Κορέ, ήταν υπεύθυνος να επιβλέπει την παρασκευή των προσφορών που τηγανίζονταν. 32 Μερικοί άλλοι λευίτες, από τις συγγένειες των Κααθιτών ήταν επιφορτισμένοι να ετοιμάζουν τους άρτους της προθέσεως, κάθε Σάββατο.

33 Μερικές λευϊτικές οικογένειες ήταν υπεύθυνες για τη μουσική του ναού. Οι αρχηγοί αυτών των οικογενειών ζούσαν στα παραοικοδομήματα του ναού και δεν είχαν άλλες ευθύνες, γιατί ήταν σε υπηρεσία μέρα και νύχτα.

34 Όλοι αυτοί που αναφέρθηκαν, ήταν αρχηγοί λευιτικών οικογενειών των συγγενειών τους και κατοικούσαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ.

35 Στην πόλη Γαβαών κατοικούσε ο ιδρυτής της, ο Ιεϊήλ. Το όνομα της γυναίκας του ήταν Μααχά. 36 Πρωτότοκος γιος του ήταν ο Αβδών, κι ακολουθούν οι Σουρ, Κις, Βάαλ, Νηρ, Ναδάβ, 37 Γεδώρ, Αχιώ, Ζαχέρ και Μικλώθ. 38 Ο Μικλώθ απέκτησε το Σιμεά. Αυτοί, αντίθετα με τις συγγένειες των αδερφών τους, ζούσαν στην Ιερουσαλήμ μαζί με άλλα μέλη της συγγένειάς τους.

39 Ο Νηρ είχε γιο τον Κις κι ο Κις το Σαούλ. Γιοι του Σαούλ ήταν οι Ιωνάθαν, Μαλχί-Σουά, Αμιναδάβ και Εσ-Βάαλ.

40 Γιος του Ιωνάθαν ήταν ο Μερίβ-Βαάλ και του Μερίβ-Βαάλ ο Μιχά.

41 Γιοι του Μιχά ήταν οι Πιθών, Μελέχ, Θαρεά και Άχαζ. 42 Ο Άχαζ απέκτησε τον Ιεωαδά κι ο Ιεωαδά τον Αλεμέθ, τον Ασμαβέθ και το Ζιμρί. Ο Ζιμρί απέκτησε το Μασσά 43 και ακολουθούν κατ’ ευθείαν γραμμή οι Βινεά, Ρεφαΐας, Ελεασά και Ασήλ.

44 Ο Ασήλ είχε έξι γιους· ονομάζονταν Αζρικάμ, Βοχερού, Ισμαήλ, Σεαρία, Οβαδίας και Χανάν.

2 Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims. 3 And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh; 4 Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah. 5 And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. 6 And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. 7 And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah, 8 And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephathiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; 9 And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.

10 And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin, 11 And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;*9.11 Azariah: also called, Seraiah 12 And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; 13 And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.*9.13 very…: Heb. mighty men of valour

14 And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; 15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; 16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. 17 And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief; 18 Who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi. 19 And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.*9.19 gates: Heb. thresholds 20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. 21 And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 22 All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. 35 And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife’s name was Maachah: 36 And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab, 37 And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. 38 And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren. 39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchi-shua, and Abinadab, and Esh-baal. 40 And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal: and Merib-baal begat Micah. 41 And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz. 42 And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza; 43 And Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son. 44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.
