1 Ο Δαβίδ και οι αρχηγοί του στρατεύματος ξεχώρισαν για την υπηρεσία των ψαλτών μερικούς από τους απογόνους του Ασάφ, του Αιμάν και του Ιεδουθούν. Αυτοί θα εξήγγειλαν τις βουλές του Θεού με συνοδεία από κιθάρες, άρπες και κύμβαλα. Ο κατάλογος των αντρών, που θα εκτελούσαν την υπηρεσία αυτή είναι ο εξής:

2 Οι γιοι του Ασάφ: Ζακούρ, Ιωσήφ, Νεθανίας και Ασαρηλά, υπό την διεύθυνση του πατέρα τους, ο οποίος εξήγγειλε τις βουλές του Θεού, σύμφωνα με τις οδηγίες του βασιλιά.

3 Οι έξι γιοι του Ιεδουθούν: Γεδαλίας, Σερί, Ιεσαΐας, Σιμεΐ, Χασαβίας και Ματταθίας, υπό τη διεύθυνση του πατέρα τους, ο οποίος εξήγγειλε τις βουλές του Θεού, με συνοδεία από κιθάρες, υμνώντας και δοξολογώντας τον Κύριο.

4 Οι γιοι του Αιμάν: Βουκκίας, Ματτανίας, Ουζζιήλ, Σουβαήλ, Ιεριμώθ, Ανανίας, Ανανί, Ελιαθά, Γιδδαλθί, Ρομαμθί-Έζερ, Ιωσβεκασά, Μαλλωθί, Ωθήρ και Μααζιώθ. 5 Ο Θεός είχε δώσει στον προφήτη Αιμάν, τον Βλέποντα του βασιλιά, αυτούς τους δεκατέσσερις γιους και τρεις κόρες, σύμφωνα με την υπόσχεσή του, για να δοξάσει τον Αιμάν.

6 Όλοι αυτοί έψαλλαν κατά τη λατρεία στο ναό του Κυρίου και τους συνόδευαν κύμβαλα, άρπες και κιθάρες, υπό τη διεύθυνση των πατέρων τους Ασάφ, Ιεδουθούν και Αιμάν, που κι αυτοί ήταν υπό τις διαταγές του βασιλιά. 7 Είχαν όλοι τους μεγάλη ικανότητα να υμνούν τον Κύριο· είχαν διδαχτεί να ψάλλουν, μαζί με τους συγγενείς τους, συνολικά διακόσια ογδόντα οκτώ άτομα. 8 Η σειρά της υπηρεσίας τους καθορίστηκε με κλήρωση· δεν έγινε καμιά διάκριση ανάμεσα στους νέους και στους μεγαλύτερους ή ανάμεσα στους παλαιότερους και στους εκπαιδευόμενους.

9-31 Ακολουθεί πίνακας, κατά σειρά κληρώσεως, αυτών που καθορίστηκαν με κλήρο και που μαζί με τους γιους τους και τους συγγενείς τους σχημάτισαν είκοσι τέσσερις ομάδες των δώδεκα ατόμων: 1. Ιωσήφ, από την οικογένεια του Ασάφ. 2. Γεδαλίας 3. Ζακούρ 4. Ισερί 5. Νεθανίας 6. Βουκκίας 7. Ασαρηλά 8. Ιωσίας 9. Ματτανίας 10. Σιμεΐ 11. Αζαρεήλ 12. Χασαβίας 13. Σουβαήλ 14. Ματταθίας 15. Ιερεμώθ 16. Ανανίας 17. Ιωσβεκασά 18. Ανανί 19. Μαλλωθί 20. Ελιαθά 21. Ωθήρ 22. Γιδδαλθί 23. Μααζιώθ 24. Ρομανθί-Έζερ.
