1 Στις ομάδες των θυρωρών του ναού ανήκαν: από τη συγγένεια του Κοράχ, ο Μεσελεμίας, γιος του Κορέ, από την οικογένεια του Αβιάσαφ.*Αβιάσαφ, κατά τους Ο΄ και το 9:19. Το εβρ. έχει «Ασάφ».2 Ο Μεσελεμίας είχε εφτά γιους, οι οποίοι κατά σειρά ηλικίας είναι οι Ζαχαρίας, Ιεδιαήλ, Ζεβαδία, Ιαθνιήλ, 3 Ελάμ, Ιωνάθαν και Ελιωεναΐ.

4 Ο Ωβήδ-Εδώμ είχε οκτώ γιους, οι οποίοι κατά σειρά ηλικίας είναι οι Σεμαΐας, Ιωζαβάδ, Ιωάχ, Σαχάρ, Ναθαναήλ, 5 Αμμιήλ, Ισσάχαρ και Φεουλθαΐ –πραγματικά ο Θεός τον είχε ευλογήσει. 6 Ο γιος του ο Σεμαΐας απέκτησε κι εκείνος γιους, που ήταν οι επικρατέστεροι στην οικογένειά τους, γιατί ήταν άνθρωποι αξιόλογοι. 7 Γιοι του Σεμαΐα ήταν οι Γοθνί, Ραφαήλ, Ωβήδ κι Ελζαβάδ, και αδερφοί του οι Ελιού και Σεμαχίας, άνθρωποι ευυπόληπτοι. 8 Όλοι αυτοί ήταν απόγονοι του Ωβήδ-Εδώμ, συνολικά εξήντα δύο άτομα. Αυτοί, οι γιοι τους και οι άλλοι συγγενείς τους ήταν άνθρωποι αξιόλογοι και ικανότατοι στην υπηρεσία τους.

9 Και ο Μεσελεμίας είχε γιους και συγγενείς συνολικά δεκαοχτώ άτομα, άνθρωποι αξιόλογοι.

10 Ο Ωσά, ένας από τους γιους του Μεραρί, είχε και αυτός γιους. Πρώτος ήταν ο Σιμρί (τον είχε ορίσει πρωτότοκο ο πατέρας του, χωρίς στην πραγματικότητα να είναι πρώτος), 11 κι ακολουθούν κατά σειρά ηλικίας οι Χελκίας, Τεβαλία και Ζαχαρίας. Συνολικά οι γιοι και οι συγγενείς του Ωσά ήταν δεκατρείς.

12 Όλοι αυτοί αποτελούσαν τις ομάδες των θυρωρών του ναού. Οι αρχηγοί και τα μέλη των ομάδων είχαν τα ίδια καθήκοντα στην υπηρεσία του ναού του Κυρίου. 13 Κάθε οικογένεια, ανεξάρτητα από το μέγεθός της έριξε κλήρο για να δει σε ποια πύλη του ναού θα αναλάμβανε καθήκοντα φρούρησης. 14 Ο κλήρος για την ανατολική πύλη, έπεσε στο Σελεμία.*Σελεμία. Εις στ. 1 «Μεσελεμίας». Έπειτα έριξαν κλήρους για το Ζαχαρία, το γιο του, σοφό σύμβουλο, κι ο κλήρος που του έπεσε ήταν για τη βορινή πύλη. 15 Στον Ωβήδ-Εδώμ έπεσε ο κλήρος για τη νότια πύλη· και στους γιους του ο κλήρος για τις αποθήκες του ναού. 16 Στον Σουππίμ και στον Ωσά έπεσε ο κλήρος για τη δυτική πύλη, μαζί με την πύλη Σαλεχέθ,*πύλη Σαλεχέθ. Πύλη μ’ αυτό το όνομα δεν αναφέρεται αλλού. που έβλεπε στο δρόμο προς το βουνό.

Οι αντίστοιχες φρουρές σχηματίστηκαν ως εξής: 17 Στην ανατολική πύλη στέκονταν κάθε μέρα έξι λευίτες· στη βορινή τέσσερις, στη νότια τέσσερις και στις αποθήκες από δύο στην καθεμιά. 18 Για την αυλή*αυλή. Η έννοια της εβρ. λ. είναι αβέβαιη. δυτικά, στέκονταν τέσσερις στο δρόμο και δύο στην αυλή.

19 Αυτές ήταν οι ομάδες των θυρωρών του ναού, που αποτελούνταν από τους απογόνους του Κορέ και του Μεραρί.

20 Άλλοι λευίτες,*Άλλοι λευίτες, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «Από τους άλλους λευίτες, ο Αχιά». φύλαγαν το θησαυροφυλάκιο του ναού του Θεού και τα ιερά αφιερώματα. 21 Οι απόγονοι του Λαδάν από τη συγγένεια του Γηρσών, αρχηγοί αντίστοιχων οικογενειών, ήταν ο Ιεχιήλ 22 και οι γιοι του Σεθάμ και Ιωήλ. Αυτοί φρουρούσαν τους θησαυρούς του ναού του Κυρίου. 23 Καθήκοντα επίσης είχαν ανατεθεί και στις συγγένειες του Αμράμ, του Ισάρ, του Χεβρών και του Ουζζιήλ.

24 Ο Σουβαήλ, από τη συγγένεια του Γερσώμ, γιου του Μωυσή, ήταν επιστάτης των θησαυρών. 25 Συγγενείς του από τον Ελεάζαρ ήταν ο γιος του Ρεαβίας και οι απόγονοί του κατ’ ευθείαν γραμμή: Ιωσίας, Ιωράμ, Ζιχρί και Σελωμείθ. 26 Ο Σελωμείθ και οι συγγενείς του φύλαγαν όλα τα αφιερώματα, που είχαν αφιερώσει στο Θεό ο βασιλιάς Δαβίδ, οι αρχηγοί των οικογενειών, οι χιλίαρχοι, οι εκατόνταρχοι και οι άλλοι αρχηγοί του στρατεύματος. 27 Όλοι αυτοί είχαν αφιερώσει στο Θεό ένα μέρος από τα πολεμικά τους λάφυρα για τις ανάγκες του ναού του Κυρίου. 28 Ό,τι είχαν αφιερώσει ο προφήτης Σαμουήλ, ο Σαούλ γιος του Κις, ο Αβεννήρ γιος του Νηρ και ο Ιωάβ γιος της Σερουΐας, ήταν όλα κάτω από τη φροντίδα του Σελωμείθ και των συγγενών του.

29 Ο Κενανίας και οι γιοι του, από τη συγγένεια του Ισάρ, είχαν αναλάβει τις πολιτικές υποθέσεις του λαού του Ισραήλ ως διοικητικοί υπάλληλοι και δικαστικοί. 30 Ο Χασαβίας και άλλοι χίλιοι επτακόσιοι αξιόλογοι άνθρωποι από τη συγγένεια του Χεβρών ήταν επόπτες του Ισραήλ για τις περιοχές δυτικά του Ιορδάνη, αρμόδιοι για όλες τις θρησκευτικές και πολιτικές υποθέσεις.

31 Ο Ιερίας ήταν αρχηγός της συγγένειας του Χεβρών. Το τεσσαρακοστό έτος της βασιλείας του Δαβίδ, έγιναν γενεαλογικές έρευνες σχετικά μ’ αυτούς και βρέθηκαν στην Ιαζήρ, στην περιοχή της Γαλαάδ, άνθρωποι αξιόλογοι, που ανήκαν σ’ αυτή τη συγγένεια. 32 Ο βασιλιάς Δαβίδ διόρισε κοντά στον Ιωρία δύο χιλιάδες επτακόσια μέλη της ίδιας συγγένειας, όλους αρχηγούς οικογενειών, οι οποίοι ήταν αρμόδιοι για τις θρησκευτικές και πολιτικές υποθέσεις στην περιοχή όπου κατοικούσαν οι φυλές Ρουβήν, Γαδ και η μισή φυλή Μανασσή.
