1 Μετά απ’ αυτά τα γεγονότα, ο Δαβίδ νίκησε τους Φιλισταίους, τους υποδούλωσε και πήρε από την κατοχή τους τη Γαθ και τα περίχωρά της.

2 Επίσης νίκησε τους Μωαβίτες, οι οποίοι έγιναν φόρου υποτελείς στο Δαβίδ.

3 Ο Δαβίδ ακόμα νίκησε τον Αδαδέζερ, βασιλιά της Σωβά, η οποία εκτεινόταν ως τη Χαμάθ, όταν ο τελευταίος πήγαινε να επιβάλει την κυριαρχία του στην περιοχή του ποταμού Ευφράτη. 4 Ο Δαβίδ αιχμαλώτισε απ’ αυτόν χίλιες άμαξες, εφτά χιλιάδες ιππείς και είκοσι χιλιάδες πεζούς. Κράτησε εκατό ζευγάρια άλογα για τις άμαξες και στα υπόλοιπα έκοψε τους τένοντες κάτω από τα γόνατά τους.

5 Οι Σύριοι της Δαμασκού ήρθαν να βοηθήσουν τον Αδαδέζερ, βασιλιά της Σωβά, αλλά ο Δαβίδ τους νίκησε και σκότωσε απ’ αυτούς είκοσι δύο χιλιάδες άντρες. 6 Διόρισε δικούς του κυβερνήτες στους Συρίους της Δαμασκού, κι έγιναν φόρου υποτελείς σ’ αυτόν. Ο Κύριος βοηθούσε το Δαβίδ σε όλες τις εκστρατείες του. 7 Πήρε τις χρυσές ασπίδες, που κρατούσαν οι αξιωματικοί του Αδαδέζερ και τις έφερε στην Ιερουσαλήμ. 8 Επίσης από τις πόλεις του βασιλείου του Αδαδέζερ, Τιβάθ και Χουν, πήρε μεγάλες ποσότητες χαλκού, με τον οποίο ο Σολομών κατασκεύασε τη λεγόμενη χάλκινη θάλασσα, τους στύλους και όλα τα χάλκινα σκεύη του ναού.*Βλ. 9 Όταν ο Τόχου, βασιλιάς της Χαμάθ, έμαθε ότι ο Δαβίδ νίκησε κατά κράτος τον Αδαδέζερ, βασιλιά της Σωβά, 10 έστειλε σ’ αυτόν το γιο του, τον Αδουράμ, για να τον χαιρετίσει και να τον συγχαρεί γι’ αυτή τη νίκη του, γιατί ο Αδαδέζερ ήταν αντίπαλος του Τόχου. Ακόμη ο Τόχου έστειλε στο Δαβίδ χρυσά, ασημένια και χάλκινα σκεύη κάθε λογής. 11 Αυτά ο βασιλιάς Δαβίδ τα αφιέρωσε στον Κύριο, μαζί με το ασήμι και το χρυσάφι που είχε πάρει απ’ όλα τα άλλα έθνη, από τους Εδωμίτες, τους Μωαβίτες, τους Αμμωνίτες, τους Φιλισταίους και τους Αμαληκίτες.

12 Ο Αβισάι, γιος της Σερουΐας, νίκησε τους Εδωμίτες στην κοιλάδα του Άλατος*κοιλάδα του Άλατος. Βλ. υποσ. εις Β΄ Σαμ 8:13. και σκότωσε απ’ αυτούς δεκαοκτώ χιλιάδες. 13 Τοποθέτησε στρατιωτικούς διοικητές στην Εδώμ και όλοι οι Εδωμίτες έγιναν υποτελείς στο Δαβίδ.

Έτσι ο Κύριος βοηθούσε το Δαβίδ σε όλες του τις εκστρατείες.

14 Ο Δαβίδ βασίλεψε σε όλο το λαό του Ισραήλ· δίκαζε κι απέδιδε το δίκαιο σε όλους αμερόληπτα. 15 Ο Ιωάβ, γιος της Σερουΐας, ήταν αρχηγός του στρατού και ο Ιωσαφάτ, γιος του Αχιλούδ, ήταν υπομνηματογράφος. 16 Ο Σαδώκ, γιος του Αχιτώβ, και ο Αχιμέλεχ, γιος του Αβιάθαρ, ήταν ιερείς και ο Σουσά ήταν γραμματέας του κράτους. 17 Ο Βεναΐας, γιος του Ιεωϊαδά ήταν αρχηγός των Χερεθαίων και των Φελεθαίων και οι γιοι του Δαβίδ είχαν τα πρώτα αξιώματα στην υπηρεσία του βασιλιά.

13 And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David’s servants. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.
