1-15 Ακολουθεί κατάλογος των Ισραηλιτών οι οποίοι ήταν στην υπηρεσία του βασιλιά, οι αρχηγοί των συγγενειών, οι χιλίαρχοι, οι εκατόνταρχοι και οι διαχειριστές της βασιλικής περιουσίας.

Όλοι οι μάχιμοι Ισραηλίτες είχαν χωριστεί σε δώδεκα τμήματα, και κάθε τμήμα αποτελείτο από είκοσι τέσσερις χιλιάδες άντρες. Ένα μήνα το χρόνο υπηρετούσε κι έπειτα αποχωρούσε. Επικεφαλής των στρατιωτικών τμημάτων ήταν κατά μήνα οι εξής:

Για τον πρώτο μήνα: Ο Ιασοβεάμ, γιος του Ζαβδιήλ και απόγονος του Φαρές. Αυτός ήταν επικεφαλής των αξιωματικών του τμήματός του.

Για το δεύτερο μήνα: Ο Δωδαΐ, από την Αχώαχ. Ανώτατος αξιωματικός τμήματός του ήταν ο Μικλώθ.

Για τον τρίτο μήνα: Ο Βεναΐας, γιος του αρχιερέα Ιεωϊαδά. Αυτός ήταν ένας από τους Τριάντα Επίλεκτους. Ο γιος του, ο Αμμιζάβαδ, τον διαδέχθηκε στην αρχηγία του τμήματός του.

Για τον τέταρτο μήνα: Ο Ασαήλ, αδερφός του Ιωάβ, κι αργότερα ο γιος του, ο Ζεβαδίας.

Για τον πέμπτο μήνα: Ο Σαμούθ, απόγονος του Ζεράχ.

Για τον έκτο μήνα: Ο Ιρά, γιος του Ικκές, από την πόλη Τεκωά.

Για τον έβδομο μήνα: Ο Χελής από την Πέλετ, ο Εφραϊμίτης.

Για τον όγδοο μήνα: Ο Σιββεχαΐ, απόγονος του Ζεράχ, από την πόλη Χούσαθ.

Για τον ένατο μήνα: Ο Αβιέζερ από την Αναθώθ, ο Βενιαμινίτης.

Για το δέκατο μήνα: Ο Μααραΐ, απόγονος του Ζεράχ από την πόλη Νετωφά.

Για τον ενδέκατο μήνα: Ο Βεναΐας από τη Πιραθών, ο Εφραϊμίτης.

Για το δωδέκατο μήνα: Ο Χελδαΐ, απόγονος του Οθνιήλ, από τη Νετωφά.

16 Οι αρχηγοί των φυλών του Ισραήλ ήταν:

Της φυλής Ρουβήν ο Ελιέζερ, γιος του Ζιχρί.

Της φυλής Συμεών ο Σεφατίας, γιος του Μααχά.

17 Της φυλής Λευί ο Χασαβίας, γιος του Κεμουήλ· απόγονος του Ααρών ήταν ο Σαδώκ.

18 Της φυλής Ιούδα ο Ελιάβ, ένας από τους αδερφούς του Δαβίδ.

Της φυλής Ισσάχαρ ο Αμρί, γιος του Μιχαήλ.

19 Της φυλής Ζαβουλών ο Ισμαΐας, γιος του Οβαδία.

Της φυλής Νεφθαλί ο Ιεριμώθ, γιος του Ουζζιήλ.

20 Της φυλής Εφραΐμ ο Ωσηέ, γιος του Οζία.

Της μισής φυλής Μανασσή ο Ιωήλ, γιος του Φεδαΐα.

21 Του άλλου μισού της φυλής Μανασσή, που είχε εγκατασταθεί στη Γαλαάδ, ο Ιδδώ, γιος του Ζαχαρία.

Της φυλής Βενιαμίν ο Ιασιήλ, γιος του Αβεννήρ.

22 Της φυλής Δαν ο Αζαρεήλ, γιος του Ιεροάμ.

Αυτοί ήταν οι αρχηγοί των φυλών του Ισραήλ.

23 Ο Δαβίδ δεν απέγραψε τους κάτω των είκοσι ετών, γιατί ο Κύριος είχε υποσχεθεί ότι θα κάνει τους Ισραηλίτες αναρίθμητους σαν τα άστρα του ουρανού. 24 Ο Ιωάβ, γιος της Σερουΐας, είχε αρχίσει να τους καταγράφει κι αυτούς, αλλά δεν τελείωσε, γιατί εξαιτίας εκείνης της απογραφής ξέσπασε η οργή του Θεού στους Ισραηλίτες.

Έτσι δεν καταγράφηκε ο συνολικός αριθμός του πληθυσμού, στα Χρονικά του βασιλιά Δαβίδ.

25 Οικονομικός επόπτης των θησαυρών του βασιλιά στην Ιερουσαλήμ ήταν ο Αζμαβέθ, γιος του Αδιήλ. Επόπτης των βασιλικών αποθηκών που βρίσκονταν στις επαρχίες, στις διάφορες πόλεις, στα χωριά και στους πύργους ήταν ο Ιωνάθαν, γιος του Οζία.

26 Επόπτης των εργατών που δούλευαν στα χωράφια του βασιλιά και καλλιεργούσαν τη γη, ήταν ο Εζρί, γιος του Χελούβ.

27 Επόπτης των βασιλικών αμπελώνων ήταν ο Σιμεΐ από τη Ραμά· και της παραγωγής και των αποθηκών του κρασιού ο Ζαβδί, από τη Σεφάμ.

28 Επόπτης των ελαιώνων και των συκεώνων στην πεδινή χώρα, ήταν ο Βάαλ-Ανάν από τη Γεδώρ· και των αποθηκών του λαδιού ο Ιωάς.

29 Επόπτης στα κοπάδια των βοδιών, που έβοσκαν στην πεδιάδα της Σαρών, ήταν ο Σιτραΐ ο Σαρωνίτης· και στα κοπάδια των βοδιών στις κοιλάδες ο Σαφάτ, γιος του Αδλαΐ.

30 Επόπτης στις καμήλες ήταν ο Οβίλ, ο Ισμαηλίτης· και στα γαϊδούρια ο Ιαδαΐας, ο Μεραθωνίτης.

31 Επόπτης στα πρόβατα ήταν ο Ιαζίζ, ο Αγαρίτης. Όλοι αυτοί ήταν διαχειριστές της περιουσίας του βασιλιά Δαβίδ.

32 Ο Ιωνάθαν, θείος του Δαβίδ, άνθρωπος συνετός και γραμματέας ήταν σύμβουλος του βασιλιά. Ο Ιεχιήλ, γιος του Χαχμονί, ήταν παιδαγωγός των γιων του βασιλιά. 33 Ο Αχιτόφελ ήταν κι αυτός σύμβουλος του βασιλιά, και ο Χουσαΐ ο Αρχίτης ήταν φίλος και έμπιστος του βασιλιά. 34 Όταν πέθανε ο Αχιτόφελ τον διαδέχθηκε ο Ιεωϊαδά, γιος του Βεναΐα, και ο Αβιάθαρ. Ο Ιωάβ ήταν ο αρχιστράτηγος του βασιλιά.

16 Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the son of Maachah: 17 Of the Levites, Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: of the Aaronites, Zadok: 18 Of Judah, Elihu, one of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:*27.18 Elihu: also called, Eliab 19 Of Zebulun, Ishmaiah the son of Obadiah: of Naphtali, Jerimoth the son of Azriel: 20 Of the children of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Azaziah: of the half tribe of Manasseh, Joel the son of Pedaiah: 21 Of the half tribe of Manasseh in Gilead, Iddo the son of Zechariah: of Benjamin, Jaasiel the son of Abner: 22 Of Dan, Azareel the son of Jeroham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel.

23 But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens. 24 Joab the son of Zeruiah began to number, but he finished not, because there fell wrath for it against Israel; neither was the number put in the account of the chronicles of king David.*27.24 was: Heb. ascended

25 And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah: 26 And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub: 27 And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite:*27.27 over the increase…: Heb. over that which was of the vineyards 28 And over the olive trees and the sycomore trees that were in the low plains was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash: 29 And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai: 30 Over the camels also was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: 31 And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s. 32 Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:*27.32 scribe: or, secretary*27.32 son…: or, Hachmonite 33 And Ahithophel was the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion: 34 And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was Joab.
