1 Τον επόμενο χρόνο, την εποχή που οι βασιλιάδες συνηθίζουν να κάνουν τις εκστρατείες τους, ο Ιωάβ επικεφαλής του στρατού του πήγε και ερήμωσε τη χώρα των Αμμωνιτών. Έπειτα πήγε και πολιόρκησε τη Ραββά, ενώ ο Δαβίδ έμενε στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Ο Ιωάβ κατέλαβε τη Ραββά και την κατέστρεψε. 2 Τότε ο Δαβίδ πήρε το στέμμα από το κεφάλι του Μιλκώμ,*Μιλκώμ. Βλ. υποσ. εις Β΄ Σαμ 12:30. θεού των Αμμωνιτών, και βρήκε ότι το βάρος του ήταν ένα τάλαντο χρυσό, και πάνω του είχε ένα πολύτιμο πετράδι. Το στέμμα το έβαλαν στο κεφάλι του Δαβίδ, ο οποίος πήρε από την πόλη πάρα πολλά λάφυρα. 3 Έβγαλε από την πόλη τους κατοίκους της και τους έβαλε σε καταναγκαστικές εργασίες, να δουλεύουν με πριόνια, με σιδερένιες κοφτερές αξίνες και με τσεκούρια.*και τους έβαλε... τσεκούρια. Βλ. υποσ. εις Β΄ Σαμ 12:31. Το ίδιο έκανε ο Δαβίδ σ’ όλες τις πόλεις των Αμμωνιτών. Μετά γύρισε στην Ιερουσαλήμ μαζί με το στρατό του.

4 Μετά από αυτά έγινε πόλεμος στη Γεζέρ με τους Φιλισταίους. Τότε ο Σιββεχαΐ από τη Χουσά, σκότωσε το γίγαντα Σιφφαΐ. Έτσι ταπεινώθηκαν οι Φιλισταίοι. 5 Σ’ έναν άλλο πόλεμο με τους Φιλισταίους ο Ελχανάν, γιος του Ιαείρ, σκότωσε το Λαχμί, αδερφό του Γολιάθ του Γαθίτη, που το ξύλο της λόγχης του ήταν σαν αντί αργαλειού. 6 Έγινε, όμως, και πάλι πόλεμος στη Γαθ. Εκεί ήταν ένας γίγαντας τεραστίου αναστήματος, που είχε είκοσι τέσσερα δάχτυλα, από έξι σε κάθε χέρι και σε κάθε πόδι. 7 Αυτός πρόσβαλλε συνέχεια τους Ισραηλίτες, αλλά ο Ιωνάθαν, γιος του Σαμαά, αδερφού του Δαβίδ, τον σκότωσε. 8 Όλοι αυτοί ήταν απόγονοι του Ραφά στη Γαθ και σκοτώθηκαν από το Δαβίδ και τους στρατιώτες του.

1 And it came to pass, that after the year was expired, at the time that kings go out to battle, Joab led forth the power of the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.
