1 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: 2 «Άνθρωπε, εσύ μένεις ανάμεσα σε αποστάτες, που έχουν μάτια για να βλέπουν, αλλά δε βλέπουν, και αυτιά για ν’ ακούν, αλλά δεν ακούν, γιατί είναι αποστάτες. 3,4 Γι’ αυτό, άνθρωπε, ετοίμασε τις αποσκευές σου και προσποιήσου ότι πας στην εξορία, ότι φεύγεις από τον τόπο σου για έναν άλλον τόπο. Βγάλε τις αποσκευές σου έξω από το σπίτι σαν να ετοιμάζεσαι για την εξορία, ενώ θα είναι ημέρα, για να σε δουν όλοι. Έπειτα, το βράδυ, βγες κι εσύ δήθεν ότι φεύγεις. Ίσως έτσι καταλάβουν, μολονότι είναι αποστάτες. 5 Σκάψε έναν τοίχο του σπιτιού σου μπροστά τους, άνοιξε μια τρύπα και βγες απ’ αυτήν. 6 Πάρε μπροστά τους το σακούλι σου στους ώμους και φύγε στο σκοτάδι με σκεπασμένο το πρόσωπό σου, για να μη βλέπεις πλέον τη χώρα. Σ’ έκανα σύμβολο στους Ισραηλίτες».

7 Εγώ, λοιπόν, έκανα όπως διατάχθηκα. Ετοίμασα το σακούλι μου σαν να ήταν αποσκευή εξορίας, ενώ ήταν ακόμα μέρα, και το βράδι έσκαψα τον τοίχο, άνοιξα μια τρύπα με το χέρι μου και βγήκα μες στο σκοτάδι μεταφέροντας το σακούλι μου στους ώμους, ενώ αυτοί μ’ έβλεπαν.

8 Το πρωί ο Κύριος μου είπε: 9 «Άνθρωπε, δε σε ρώτησαν οι Ισραηλίτες αποστάτες τι ήταν αυτά που έκανες; 10 Να τους πεις ότι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός λέει: "αυτή η συμβολική πράξη αφορά τον άρχοντα της Ιερουσαλήμ και όλους τους Ισραηλίτες που ζουν εκεί". 11 Πες τους ακόμη: "εγώ είμαι σύμβολο γι’ αυτούς: ό,τι έκανα εγώ, αυτό θα συμβεί και σ’ εκείνους. Θα συρθούν στην εξορία, στην αιχμαλωσία. 12 Κι ο άρχοντάς τους θα πάρει το σακούλι του στους ώμους μες στο σκοτάδι και θα φύγει μέσα από μια τρύπα που θα του ανοίξουν για να βγει. Θα σκεπάσει και το πρόσωπό του για να μη βλέπει πλέον τη χώρα". 13 Θ’ απλώσω το δίχτυ μου πάνω του και θα πιαστεί στην παγίδα μου. Θα τον φέρω στη Βαβυλώνα, στη χώρα των Χαλδαίων αλλά δε θα τη βλέπει και θα πεθάνει εκεί. 14 Θα σκορπίσω στους τέσσερις ανέμους όλη την ακολουθία του, τους φρουρούς του και τα στρατεύματά του και θα τους καταδιώξω με το ξίφος μου. 15 Κι όταν θα τους έχω διασκορπίσει ανάμεσα στα έθνη, όταν θα τους έχω διασπείρει στις ξένες χώρες, τότε θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος. 16 Αλλά μερικούς απ’ αυτούς θα τους γλιτώσω από τον πόλεμο, την πείνα και την αρρώστια, για να διηγούνται στα έθνη στα οποία θα πάνε, όλες τις βδελυρές πράξεις τους. Έτσι θα μάθουν κι εκείνα τα έθνη ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος».

17 Πάλι ο Κύριος μου είπε: 18 «Εσύ, άνθρωπε, φάε το ψωμί σου με τρόμο και πιες το νερό σου με ανησυχία και αγωνία. 19 Και πες στον εξόριστο λαό της χώρας, ότι ο Κύριος ο Θεός, λέει: "οι κάτοικοι της Ιερουσαλήμ που θα ’χουν απομείνει στη χώρα του Ισραήλ, θα φάνε το ψωμί τους με αγωνία και θα πιουν το νερό τους με φόβο, γιατί η χώρα θα ερημωθεί εξαιτίας της ανομίας των κατοίκων της. 20 Οι κατοικημένες πόλεις θ’ αδειάσουν από τους κατοίκους τους και η χώρα θα ερημωθεί. Έτσι θα μάθετε ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος"».

21 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: 22 «Άνθρωπε, ποια είναι η σημασία της παροιμίας που λέτε στη χώρα του Ισραήλ, "ο καιρός περνά και κανένα όραμα δεν πραγματοποιείται"; 23 Πες τους, λοιπόν: "ο Κύριος ο Θεός λέει: Θα θέσω τέρμα στην παροιμία αυτή και δε θα την ξαναπούν πια οι Ισραηλίτες". Πες τους αντίθετα: "πράγματι έρχεται καιρός, που κάθε όραμα θα εκπληρωθεί". 24 Δε θα υπάρξει πια ψευδές όραμα και πρόρρηση παραπλανητική στους Ισραηλίτες. 25 Γιατί όταν εγώ, ο Κύριος, μιλάω, ο λόγος αυτός θα εκπληρώνεται χωρίς χρονοτριβή. Αποστάτες, στις μέρες σας εγώ ό,τι πω θα το κάνω. Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, το λέω».

26 Ο Κύριος μου είπε πάλι: 27 «Άνθρωπε, οι Ισραηλίτες λένε για σένα ότι το όραμα που βλέπεις είναι για μια μελλοντική εποχή, ότι προφητεύεις για πολύ μακρινούς χρόνους. 28 Πες τους, λοιπόν: "ο Κύριος ο Θεός λέει: Δε θ’ αργήσει πια να εκπληρωθεί κανένας απ’ τους λόγους μου. Κάθε λόγος που λέω εγώ εκπληρώνεται. Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, το λέω"».

8 And in the morning came the word of the LORD unto me, saying, 9 Son of man, hath not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said unto thee, What doest thou? 10 Say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; This burden concerneth the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel that are among them. 11 Say, I am your sign: like as I have done, so shall it be done unto them: they shall remove and go into captivity.*12.11 they…: Heb. by removing go into captivity 12 And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he see not the ground with his eyes. 13 My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there. 14 And I will scatter toward every wind all that are about him to help him, and all his bands; and I will draw out the sword after them. 15 And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall scatter them among the nations, and disperse them in the countries. 16 But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence; that they may declare all their abominations among the heathen whither they come; and they shall know that I am the LORD.*12.16 a few…: Heb. men of number

17 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18 Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with carefulness; 19 And say unto the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord GOD of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and of the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread with carefulness, and drink their water with astonishment, that her land may be desolate from all that is therein, because of the violence of all them that dwell therein.*12.19 all that…: Heb. the fulness thereof 20 And the cities that are inhabited shall be laid waste, and the land shall be desolate; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

21 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 22 Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth? 23 Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision. 24 For there shall be no more any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel. 25 For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.

26 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 27 Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that he seeth is for many days to come, and he prophesieth of the times that are far off. 28 Therefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; There shall none of my words be prolonged any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be done, saith the Lord GOD.
