1 Αυτός μου είπε: «Εσύ, άνθρωπε,*Εσύ, άνθρωπε. Κατά λ. το εβρ. έχει «υιέ ανθρώπου». Η έκφραση απαντάται συχνότατα στο βιβλίο του Ιεζεκιήλ και θέλει να υπογραμμίσει την απόσταση ανάμεσα στο Θεό και στον προφήτη του, που δεν είναι παρά ένας θνητός. σήκω στα πόδια σου· θέλω να σου μιλήσω». 2 Ενώ αυτός μου μιλούσε, το Πνεύμα του Θεού μπήκε μέσα μου και με σήκωσε στα πόδια μου· τον άκουσα, λοιπόν, να μου λέει: 3 «Άνθρωπε, σε στέλνω στους Ισραηλίτες, στο έθνος των αποστατών, που έχει επαναστατήσει εναντίον μου· αυτοί όπως και οι πρόγονοί τους δε σταμάτησαν τις παραβάσεις τους απέναντί μου μέχρι σήμερα. 4 Είναι ανόητοι και πεισματάρηδες. Σ’ αυτούς, λοιπόν, σε στέλνω, για να τους μεταβιβάσεις τα όσα εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, έχω να τους πω. 5 Είτε σ’ ακούσουν είτε όχι –γιατί είν’ αποστάτες– θα μάθουν πάντως ότι υπάρχει ένας προφήτης ανάμεσά τους. 6 Εσύ όμως, άνθρωπε, μην τους φοβηθείς ούτε αυτούς ούτε τα λόγια τους, έστω κι αν γύρω σου όλοι αυτοί είναι σαν τ’ αγκάθια και τα παλούκια κι έχεις την αίσθηση πως ζεις ανάμεσα σε σκορπιούς. Παρ’ όλα αυτά μη φοβηθείς τα λόγια τους και μη δειλιάσεις μπρος σ’ αυτούς τους αποστάτες. 7 Εσύ θα τους πεις τα λόγια μου, είτε τ’ ακούσουν είτε όχι, κι ας είναι αποστάτες. 8 Εσύ, άνθρωπε, θ’ ακούς ό,τι σου λέω εγώ. Μη γίνεις κι εσύ αποστάτης όπως αυτοί· άνοιξε το στόμα σου και φάε αυτό που εγώ σου δίνω».

9 Τότε είδα να απλώνεται προς το μέρος μου ένα χέρι, που κρατούσε ένα βιβλίο σε σχήμα κυλίνδρου 10 και το χέρι το ξετύλιξε μπροστά μου. Ήταν γραμμένο κι από τις δύο πλευρές και περιείχε θρήνους, κλάματα και οδυρμούς.

1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. 2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me. 3 And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.*2.3 nation: Heb. nations 4 For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.*2.4 impudent: Heb. hard of face 5 And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them.

6 And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.*2.6 briers…: or, rebels 7 And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: for they are most rebellious.*2.7 most…: Heb. rebellion 8 But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; Be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that I give thee.

9 And when I looked, behold, an hand was sent unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; 10 And he spread it before me; and it was written within and without: and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe.
