1 «Κι εσύ, άνθρωπε, προφήτεψε εναντίον του Γωγ και πες του: "άκου τι λέει για σένα ο Κύριος, ο Θεός: Είμαι εναντίον σου, Γωγ, μεγάλε άρχοντα της Μεσέχ και της Τουβάλ.*άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1. – Για το όνομα Γωγ βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 38:2.2 Θα σε βάλω κάτω από τον έλεγχό μου και θα σε κατευθύνω· θα σε ανεβάσω από τις εσχατιές του βορρά και θα σε φέρω να επιτεθείς στα βουνά του Ισραήλ. 3 Μετά θα χτυπήσω κι εσένα, έτσι που να πέσει το τόξο σου από το αριστερό σου χέρι και τα βέλη σου απ’ το δεξί. 4 Θα πέσετε νεκροί στα βουνά του Ισραήλ, εσύ, ο στρατός σου και το πλήθος των συμμάχων σου. Θα σας δώσω για τροφή στα όρνεα κάθε είδους και στ’ άγρια θηρία. 5 Θα πέσεις νεκρός στο χώμα, κατά πώς το λέω εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός".

6 »Φωτιά θα στείλω στη χώρα του Μαγώγ*Μαγώγ. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 38:2. και εναντίον αυτών που κατοικούν με ασφάλεια στις ακτές· θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος. 7 Θα κάνω να γνωρίσουν οι Ισραηλίτες, ο λαός μου, πόσο άγιος είμαι· δε θα τους αφήσω άλλο να με αγνοούν και τα έθνη θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο άγιος Θεός του Ισραήλ. 8 Να, έρχεται η μέρα που αυτό θα πραγματοποιηθεί, κατά πώς εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, το έχω προαναγγείλει».

9 Ο Κύριος λέει: «Οι κάτοικοι των πόλεων του Ισραήλ θα βγουν εκείνη την ημέρα έξω από τις πόλεις τους και θα κάψουν τα όπλα των εχθρών τους: τις ασπίδες, τους θυρεούς, τα τόξα, τα βέλη, τα ακόντια και τις λόγχες. Θα τα χρησιμοποιούν για καυσόξυλα εφτά χρόνια. 10 Δεν θα έχουν ανάγκη να φέρνουν ξύλα από τους αγρούς ούτε από τα δάση, γιατί θ’ ανάβουν φωτιά με τα όπλα. Έτσι θα λεηλατήσουν εκείνους που τους λεηλάτησαν και θα λαφυραγωγήσουν εκείνους που τους λαφυραγώγησαν.

11 »Όταν θα συμβούν αυτά, θα δώσω στο Γωγ τόπο ταφής εκεί, στη χώρα του Ισραήλ. Ο τόπος αυτός θα βρίσκεται ανατολικά της Νεκράς Θάλασσας και το νεκροταφείο θα κλείνει το δρόμο στους ταξιδιώτες. Εκεί θα θάψουν το Γωγ και όλο το στρατό του και θα ονομάσουν τον τόπο εκείνο "Κοιλάδα του Στρατού του Γωγ". 12 Εφτά μήνες θα τους θάβουν οι Ισραηλίτες, για να καθαρίσουν τη χώρα.*Κανονικά αρνούνταν να παραχωρήσουν στον εχθρό ολόκληρο νεκροταφείο (βλ. Β΄ Βασ 9:37· Ιερ 8:1-3). Στην περίπτωση αυτή όμως η παρουσία των πτωμάτων του Γωγ και των ανδρών του είχε μολύνει τη χώρα του Ισραήλ (βλ. Αρ 19:11) και η ανάγκη ήταν επιτακτική.13 Όλοι οι κάτοικοι της περιοχής θα βοηθήσουν σ’ αυτό το έργο· η μέρα εκείνη, που θα φανερώσω τη δόξα μου, θα μείνει σ’ αυτούς ονομαστή. Εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, το λέω. 14 Μετά τους εφτά μήνες θα συνεχίσουν να ψάχνουν προσεκτικά. Θα ορίσουν άντρες, οι οποίοι θα περιέρχονται τη χώρα συνεχώς, για να θάβουν όσους θα έχουν απομείνει άταφοι, ώστε να καθαρίσουν τη χώρα. 15 Όταν κάποιος απ’ αυτούς θα βλέπει ένα ανθρώπινο κόκαλο, θα βάζει κοντά του σημάδι, ωσότου οι ενταφιαστές το θάψουν κι αυτό στην κοιλάδα του Στρατού του Γωγ. 16 Εκεί θα υπάρχει και μια πόλη, η οποία θα ονομαστεί "Αμωνά" (Πλήθος). Έτσι θα καθαριστεί η χώρα.

17 »Κι εσύ, άνθρωπε, πες σε όλα τα πτηνά και στ’ άγρια θηρία: "ακούστε τι σας προστάζει ο Κύριος ο Θεός: Συναχθείτε κι ελάτε· μαζευτείτε απ’ όλα τα μέρη στο συμπόσιο που ετοιμάζω για σας, στη μεγάλη θυσία, πάνω στα βουνά του Ισραήλ. Θα φάτε σάρκα και θα πιείτε αίμα. 18 Θα φάτε τις σάρκες των πολεμιστών και θα πιείτε το αίμα των αρχηγών της γης. Όλοι τους είναι κριάρια, αρνιά και τράγοι, παχιά μοσχάρια της Βασάν. 19 Θα φάτε πάχος ώσπου να χορτάσετε και θα πιείτε αίμα ώσπου να μεθύσετε, από τη θυσία μου που εγώ ετοιμάζω για σας. 20 Θα χορτάσετε στο τραπέζι μου από άλογα και καβαλάρηδες, από πολεμιστές κι από πτώματα στρατιωτών!"»

Αυτά λέει ο Κύριος, ο Θεός.

21 Ο Κύριος λέει: «Θα φανερώσω τη δόξα μου και τη δύναμή μου ανάμεσα στα άλλα έθνη, όταν θα δουν πώς χρησιμοποιώ τη δύναμή μου για να εκτελέσω τις καταδικαστικές μου αποφάσεις εναντίον τους. 22 Και οι Ισραηλίτες θα μάθουν από τη μέρα εκείνη και στο εξής ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός τους.

23 »Τα έθνη θα μάθουν ότι οι Ισραηλίτες οδηγήθηκαν στην αιχμαλωσία εξαιτίας της ανομίας τους. Επειδή με πρόδωσαν, τους αποστράφηκα και τους παρέδωσα στην εξουσία των εχθρών τους και σκοτώθηκαν όλοι στον πόλεμο. 24 Τους αποστράφηκα, τους μεταχειρίστηκα όπως άξιζε στην ακαθαρσία τους και στις παραβάσεις τους.

25 »Ακούστε όμως τι λέω εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, για τους απογόνους του Ιακώβ: Από ’δω και πέρα θα δείξω ευσπλαχνία τους Ισραηλίτες και θ’ αλλάξω την κατάστασή τους· δε θα αφήσω να ατιμάζεται άλλο το άγιο όνομά μου. 26 Αυτοί θα ντρέπονται για τις τόσες προδοσίες τους εναντίον μου, όταν θα ζουν στη χώρα τους με ασφάλεια και κανείς δε θα τους απειλεί, 27 όταν θα τους έχω φέρει πίσω, μέσα από τους ξένους λαούς και θα τους συγκεντρώσω από τις χώρες των εχθρών τους. Τότε θα τους χρησιμοποιήσω για να φανερώσω σε πολλά έθνη ότι εγώ είμαι άγιος Θεός. 28 Θα μάθουν και οι ίδιοι ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός τους, αφού τους έστειλα στην αιχμαλωσία, ανάμεσα στα έθνη, αλλά έπειτα τους συγκέντρωσα στη χώρα τους, δίχως ν’ αφήσω κανέναν απ’ αυτούς πίσω στην αιχμαλωσία. 29 Θα δώσω το Πνεύμα μου στους Ισραηλίτες κι έτσι δεν θα τους αποστραφώ ποτέ πια. Εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, το λέω».

8 Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day whereof I have spoken. 9 And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:*39.9 handstaves: or, javelins*39.9 burn them…: or, make a fire of them 10 So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD.

11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog.*39.11 noses: or, mouths*39.11 Hamon-gog: that is, The multitude of Gog 12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. 13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search.*39.14 men…: Heb. men of continuance 15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog.*39.15 set up: Heb. build 16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. 17 And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood.*39.17 unto…: Heb. to the fowl of every wing*39.17 my sacrifice: or, my slaughter 18 Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan.*39.18 goats: Heb. great goats 19 And ye shall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. 20 Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD. 21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. 22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword. 24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them. 25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; 26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. 27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies’ lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; 28 Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.*39.28 which…: Heb. by my causing of them, etc 29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
