1 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: 2 «Εσύ άνθρωπε,*Εσύ άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1. προφήτεψε εναντίον των προφητών του Ισραήλ που προφητεύουν αυθαίρετα, και πες τους: "ακούστε τι λέει για σας ο Κύριος ο Θεός: 3 Αλίμονο στους ανόητους προφήτες που προφητεύουν αυθαίρετα, χωρίς να βλέπουν οράσεις. 4 Οι προφήτες σας, Ισραηλίτες, είναι σαν καταστροφικές αλεπούδες, που τριγυρνούν ανάμεσα στα ερείπια. 5 Δεν ανέβηκαν να επιδιορθώσουν τα χαλάσματα του τείχους ούτε έχτισαν τοίχο για να σας προστατεύσουν από τον πόλεμο την ημέρα που εγώ ο Κύριος θα σας κρίνω. 6,7 Βλέπουν απατηλές οράσεις και προφητεύουν ψέματα, λέγοντας ότι ο Κύριος τους μίλησε, ενώ εγώ ποτέ δεν τους έστειλα· κι όμως, περιμένουν να πραγματοποιηθούν τα λόγια τους. 8 Γι’ αυτό, εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, λέω: Επειδή έχουν πει ψεύτικες προφητείες και έχουν δει απατηλές οράσεις, είμαι εναντίον τους. 9 Θα δείξω τη δύναμή μου εναντίον αυτών των φαντασιόπληκτων προφητών, που επινοούν οράσεις και δίνουν ψεύτικους χρησμούς. Δε θα μετέχουν στη συνέλευση του λαού μου ούτε θα καταγραφούν στον κατάλογο των Ισραηλιτών, ούτε θα μπουν στη χώρα τους. Έτσι θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός. 10 Αποπλάνησαν το λαό μου λέγοντάς του ότι όλα θα πάνε καλά, ενώ τίποτα δεν πήγαινε καλά. Κι όταν ο λαός μου έχτιζε τοίχο με ξερολιθιά, αυτοί απλώς τον σοβαντίζανε. 11 Πες, λοιπόν, σ’ αυτούς τους προφήτες, που σοβαντίζουν την ξερολιθιά, πως θα ’ρθεί μια δυνατή βροχή, θα πέσει χαλάζι και θα ξεσπάσει ανεμοθύελλα, κι ο τοίχος θα πέσει. 12 Όταν λοιπόν ο τοίχος πέσει, θα σας ρωτάνε: Τι απέγινε εκείνος ο όμορφος σοβάς που πασαλείψατε την ξερολιθιά; 13 Κι αυτό είν’ εκείνο που εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, έχω να σας πω: Θα εξαπολύσω γεμάτος οργή έναν ισχυρό άνεμο, θα έρθει δυνατή βροχή και θα πέσει χαλάζι με μανία καταστροφική. 14 Θα γκρεμίσω τον τοίχο που είχατε σοβαντίσει, θα τον κατεδαφίσω τελείως, έτσι που να φανούνε τα θεμέλιά του. Κι όταν ο τοίχος πέσει, θα εξαφανιστείτε κι εσείς μες στα ερείπιά του· έτσι θα μάθετε ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος. 15 Θα εξαντλήσω την οργή μου πάνω σ’ αυτόν τον τοίχο και πάνω σ’ αυτούς που τον σοβάντισαν. Και τότε εγώ θα σας ειρωνεύομαι: Πού είναι τώρα ο τοίχος; πού είναι εκείνοι που τον σοβάντισαν; 16 Τι έγιναν εκείνοι οι προφήτες του Ισραήλ, που προφήτευαν για την Ιερουσαλήμ και που οραματίζονταν ότι όλα θα πήγαιναν καλά σ’ αυτήν; Τίποτα δεν πήγε καλά! Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, το λέω"».

17 Μου είπε ακόμα ο Κύριος: «Εσύ άνθρωπε, απευθύνσου στις γυναίκες του λαού σου, που προφητεύουν αυθαίρετα, και προφήτεψε εναντίον τους. 18 Πες τους: "ακούστε τι λέει ο Κύριος ο Θεός: Αλίμονο σ’ εσάς γυναίκες, που ράβετε μαγικές κορδέλες για τους καρπούς των χεριών και φτιάχνετε μαντίλες για τα κεφάλια ανθρώπων κάθε ηλικίας, παγιδεύοντας έτσι τις ζωές των ανθρώπων που ανήκουν στο λαό μου!*Αναφορά σε τελετές μαγείας, άγνωστες σήμερα. Έχετε την εντύπωση ότι θα σώσετε τη δική σας ζωή; 19 Με τον τρόπο αυτό προσβάλλετε το όνομά μου*Με τον τρόπο... το όνομά μου. Η μαγεία εθεωρείτο ευθεία περιφρόνηση του Θεού και τιμωρείτο με θάνατο (βλ. Λευ 19:26-31· 20:27· Δτ 18:10-12). ανάμεσα στο λαό μου για μια χούφτα κριθάρι και για ένα κομμάτι ψωμί, παραδίνοντας στο θάνατο ανθρώπους που δεν ήταν να πεθάνουν και διατηρώντας στη ζωή ανθρώπους που δε θα ’πρεπε να ζήσουν. Έτσι πλανάτε το λαό μου, που του αρέσει να ακούει ψεύδη.

20 "Γι’ αυτό, εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός θα ενεργήσω ενάντια στα μαγικά δεσίματά σας, που μ’ αυτά παγιδεύετε τους ανθρώπους· θα τα ξεσκίσω από τα μπράτσα σας και θα ελευθερώσω αυτούς που κυνηγάτε. 21 Θα ξεσκίσω τις μαντήλες σας και θα ελευθερώσω το λαό μου από τη μαγική εξουσία σας, που τους κρατάτε σαν θήραμα· και θα μάθετε ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος.

22 "Με τα ψεύδη σας έχετε αποθαρρύνει τους δικαίους, αν κι εγώ ποτέ δεν τους αποθάρρυνα και ενθαρρύνατε τους ασεβείς, ώστε να μην αλλάξουν τον κακό τρόπο της ζωής τους και σωθούν. 23 Γι’ αυτό δεν θα ξαναδείτε τις απατηλές οράσεις σας, ούτε θα ξαναδώσετε τους ψεύτικους χρησμούς σας· θα ελευθερώσω το λαό μου από τη μαγική δύναμή σας κι έτσι θα μάθετε ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος"».

1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;*13.2 that prophesy out…: Heb. that are prophets out of their own hearts 3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!*13.3 follow: Heb. walk after*13.3 and…: or, and things which they have not seen 4 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts. 5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.*13.5 gaps: or, breaches*13.5 made…: Heb. hedged the hedge 6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. 7 Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? 8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD. 9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.*13.9 assembly: or, secret, or, counsel

10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:*13.10 a wall: or, a slight wall 11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it. 12 Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it? 13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. 14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it; 16 To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord GOD.

17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them, 18 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?*13.18 armholes: or, elbows 19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies? 20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.*13.20 to make…: or, into gardens 21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. 22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:*13.22 by…: or, that I should save his life: Heb. by quickening him 23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
