1 Τη δέκατη μέρα του πρώτου μήνα του εικοστού πέμπτου έτους της αιχμαλωσίας μας, δεκατέσσερα χρόνια μετά την πτώση της Ιερουσαλήμ,*Δηλ. το 573 π.Χ. ένιωσα επάνω μου τη δύναμη του Κυρίου, ο οποίος με πήγε στην Ιερουσαλήμ. 2 Με θεία οράματα με έφερε στη χώρα του Ισραήλ, όπου και μ’ έβαλε πάνω σ’ ένα πολύ ψηλό βουνό. Πάνω σ’ αυτό υπήρχε προς τη νότια πλευρά του κάτι που έμοιαζε με οικοδομήματα πόλης. 3 Με πήγε εκεί και είδα έναν άντρα που το παρουσιαστικό του είχε όψη χαλκού. Κρατούσε στο χέρι του ένα λινό νήμα κι ένα καλαμένιο μέτρο και στεκόταν κοντά στην πύλη. 4 Ο άντρας μού είπε: «Άνοιξε, άνθρωπε*άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1. τα μάτια σου και τ’ αυτιά σου και πρόσεξε καλά όλα όσα θα σου δείξω, γιατί γι’ αυτό το σκοπό ήρθες εδώ. Έπειτα πες στους Ισραηλίτες αυτά που θα δεις».

5 Γύρω από το ναό υπήρχε ένα τείχος.*Το κείμενο των κεφ. 40:5–42:20 παρουσιάζει πολλά προβλήματα σε σημείο που οποιαδήποτε μετάφραση πολλές φορές να περιορίζεται σε μια απλή απόπειρα. Πολλές λεπτομέρειες σχετικά με την περιοχή του ναού παραμένουν αδιευκρίνιστες. Το καλαμένιο μέτρο που κρατούσε ο άντρας είχε μήκος έξι μεγάλους πήχεις,*μεγάλους πήχεις. Καθένας ισοδυναμούσε με 52:5 εκ. περίπου. καθένας από τους οποίους ισοδυναμούσε με έναν κοινό πήχυ και μία παλάμη. Μέτρησε το πάχος του τείχους και το βρήκε ένα καλαμένιο μέτρο. Τόσο βρήκε και το ύψος.

6 Μετά ο άντρας ήρθε στην ανατολική πύλη. Ανέβηκε τα σκαλιά της, μέτρησε το κατώφλι της και βρήκε ότι το πλάτος του ήταν ένα καλαμένιο μέτρο.

7 Κάθε θάλαμος του οικοδομήματος της πύλης είχε ένα καλαμένιο μέτρο πλάτος και ένα μήκος και ο μεσότοιχος ανάμεσά τους ήταν πέντε πήχεις. Προς την πλευρά του ναού το οικοδόμημα της πύλης κατέληγε σε προθάλαμο, το κατώφλι του οποίου ήταν ένα καλαμένιο μέτρο. 8 Έπειτα ο άντρας μέτρησε τον προθάλαμο, 9 ο οποίος είχε μήκος οκτώ πήχεις και οι πεσσοί του ανοίγματος της εισόδου προς το ναό ήταν δύο πήχεις. 10 (Οι θάλαμοι του οικοδομήματος της ανατολικής πύλης ήταν τρεις σε κάθε πλευρά και είχαν όλοι τις ίδιες διαστάσεις).

11 Μετά ο άντρας μέτρησε το πλάτος του ανοίγματος της πύλης και ήταν δέκα πήχεις, ενώ το συνολικό πλάτος της πύλης ήταν δεκατρείς πήχεις. 12 Μπροστά από τους θαλάμους υπήρχε φράκτης, που είχε ύψος έναν πήχυ. Οι θάλαμοι και των δύο πλευρών ήταν έξι πήχεις. 13 Μέτρησε και το πλάτος του οικοδομήματος της πύλης από το πίσω μέρος του ενός θαλάμου μέχρι το πίσω μέρος του άλλου και ήταν είκοσι πέντε πήχεις· οι είσοδοί τους ήταν αντικρυστά.

14 Ο προθάλαμος μαζί με τους πεσσούς ήταν είκοσι πήχεις και εκτεινόταν μέσα στην αυλή. 15 Έτσι από την εξωτερική πρόσοψη του οικοδομήματος της πύλης μέχρι την πρόσοψη του προθαλάμου στην εσωτερική πλευρά ήταν πενήντα πήχεις.

16 Στους εξωτερικούς τοίχους των θαλάμων υπήρχαν παράθυρα που στένευαν προς το εσωτερικό της πύλης· επίσης ο προθάλαμος είχε γύρω γύρω ανάλογα παράθυρα. Στους πεσσούς κι από τις δύο πλευρές υπήρχαν διακοσμήσεις από φοινικόκλαδα.

17 Έπειτα ο άντρας μ’ έφερε στην εξωτερική αυλή· αυτή είχε ολόγυρα τριάντα δωμάτια και το δάπεδο μπροστά τους ήταν λιθόστρωτο· 18 Το λιθόστρωτο έφτανε ως τις πλευρές των πυλών, και το πλάτος του ήταν ίσο με το πλάτος των πυλών· αυτό το λιθόστρωτο ήταν σε χαμηλότερο επίπεδο (από την εσωτερική αυλή). 19 Μέτρησε και το πλάτος από την εσωτερική πρόσοψη της εξωτερικής πύλης μέχρι την εξωτερική πρόσοψη της εσωτερικής αυλής και ήταν εκατό πήχεις.

20 Από την ανατολική πλευρά πήγαμε στη βόρεια· εκεί ήταν η βορινή πύλη της εξωτερικής αυλής, και μέτρησε το μήκος και το πλάτος της. 21 Είχε τρεις θαλάμους σε κάθε πλευρά και οι πεσσοί της και ο προθάλαμός της είχαν τις ίδιες διαστάσεις με την πρώτη πύλη: Πενήντα πήχεις μήκος και είκοσι πέντε πλάτος. 22 Τα παράθυρά της, ο προθάλαμός της και τα φοινικόκλαδά της ήταν ίδια μ’ εκείνα της πύλης που έβλεπε προς τ’ ανατολικά. Εφτά σκαλοπάτια οδηγούσαν σ’ αυτήν την πύλη και κατέληγαν στους πεσσούς. 23 Απέναντι από τη βορινή πύλη, καθώς κι από την ανατολική, υπήρχε μια πύλη που οδηγούσε στην εσωτερική αυλή· μέτρησε από πύλη σε πύλη και η απόσταση ήταν εκατό πήχεις.

24 Έπειτα ο άντρας μ’ έφερε στο νότιο μέρος· εκεί ήταν η νότια πύλη. Μέτρησε τον προθάλαμο και τους πεσσούς της και είχαν το ίδιο μέγεθος με τα άλλα. 25 Υπήρχαν και παράθυρα στην πύλη και στον προθάλαμό της ολόγυρα, ίδια με τα άλλα παράθυρα. Το μήκος της ήταν πενήντα πήχεις και το πλάτος της είκοσι πέντε. 26 Εφτά σκαλοπάτια οδηγούσαν και σ’ αυτήν την πύλη και κατέληγαν στους πεσσούς της, οι οποίοι είχαν επίσης διακόσμηση από φοινικόκλαδα, ένα φοινικόκλαδο σε κάθε πλευρά. 27 Στη νότια πλευρά της εσωτερικής αυλής υπήρχε μια πύλη· μέτρησε την απόσταση ανάμεσα στις δύο νότιες πύλες και τη βρήκε εκατό πήχεις.

28 Μετά ο άντρας μ’ έφερε στην εσωτερική αυλή από τη νότια πύλη. Μέτρησε την πύλη αυτή και βρήκε ότι είχε τις ίδιες διαστάσεις με τις άλλες. 29 Οι θάλαμοί της, ο προθάλαμός της και οι πεσσοί της είχαν το ίδιο μέγεθος με τα άλλα· ολόγυρα σ’ αυτήν και στον προθάλαμό της υπήρχαν επίσης παράθυρα. Το μήκος της ήταν πενήντα πήχεις και το πλάτος της είκοσι πέντε. 30 Οι προθάλαμοι των πυλών γύρω στην εσωτερική αυλή, είχαν μήκος είκοσι πέντε πήχεις και πλάτος πέντε. 31 Ο προθάλαμός της έβλεπε προς την εξωτερική αυλή· στους πεσσούς της υπήρχαν διακοσμήσεις με φοινικόκλαδα· σ’ αυτήν την πύλη έφτανε κανείς από οκτώ σκαλοπάτια.

32 Έπειτα ο άντρας μ’ έφερε στο ανατολικό μέρος της εσωτερικής αυλής· μέτρησε την πύλη και βρήκε ότι είχε τις ίδιες διαστάσεις με τις άλλες. 33 Οι θάλαμοί της, ο προθάλαμός της και οι πεσσοί της είχαν το ίδιο μέγεθος με τα άλλα· ολόγυρα σ’ αυτήν και στον προθάλαμό της υπήρχαν επίσης παράθυρα. Το μήκος της ήταν πενήντα πήχεις και το πλάτος της είκοσι πέντε. 34 Ο προθάλαμός της έβλεπε προς την εξωτερική αυλή· στους πεσσούς της υπήρχαν διακοσμήσεις με φοινικόκλαδα κι από τις δύο πλευρές· σ’ αυτήν την πύλη έφτανε κανείς από οκτώ σκαλοπάτια. 35 Έπειτα μ’ έφερε στη βορινή πύλη· τη μέτρησε και βρήκε ότι είχε τις ίδιες διαστάσεις με τις άλλες. 36 Υπήρχαν επίσης σ’ αυτήν θάλαμοι, προθάλαμος, πεσσοί και παράθυρα ολόγυρα. Το μήκος της ήταν πενήντα πήχεις και το πλάτος της είκοσι πέντε. 37 Ο προθάλαμός της έβλεπε προς την εξωτερική αυλή· στους πεσσούς της υπήρχαν διακοσμήσεις από φοινικόκλαδα. Σ’ αυτήν την πύλη έφτανε κανείς από οκτώ σκαλοπάτια.

38 Εκεί υπήρχε ένα δωμάτιο, το οποίο με την είσοδό του συνδεόταν με τον προθάλαμο της πύλης, όπου έπλεναν τα σφάγια που προορίζονταν για ολοκαύτωμα. 39 Σε κάθε άκρη του προθαλάμου υπήρχαν από δύο τραπέζια, πάνω στα οποία έσφαζαν τα ζώα που προορίζονταν για τα ολοκαυτώματα, για τις θυσίες εξιλέωσης και τις θυσίες επανόρθωσης. 40 Έξω από τον προθάλαμο, κοντά στην είσοδο της βορινής πύλης, υπήρχαν δύο τραπέζια από τη μια πλευρά και δύο από την άλλη. 41 Τέσσερα τραπέζια μέσα και τέσσερα τραπέζια έξω από την είσοδο της πύλης, οκτώ όλα μαζί, πάνω στα οποία έσφαζαν τα ζώα των θυσιών. 42 Τα τέσσερα τραπέζια που προορίζονταν για τα ολοκαυτώματα και τις άλλες θυσίες, ήταν από πελεκητή πέτρα· καθένα είχε μήκος και πλάτος ενάμιση πήχυ και ύψος έναν πήχυ. Πάνω σ’ αυτά τοποθετούσαν τα εργαλεία με τα οποία έσφαζαν τα ζώα για τις θυσίες. 43 Τα τσιγγέλια, μακριά σαν μια παλάμη, ήταν καρφωμένα στον εσωτερικό τοίχο ολόγυρα. Πάνω στα τραπέζια τοποθετούσαν το κρέας των θυσιών.

44 Έξω από την εσωτερική αυλή υπήρχαν δύο δωμάτια*δύο δωμάτια, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «δύο δωμάτια για τους ψάλτες». με πρόσβαση στην αυλή· το ένα κοντά στη βορινή πύλη και πρόσοψη προς το νότο και το άλλο κοντά στη νότια πύλη με πρόσοψη προς το βορρά. 45 Ο άντρας μού εξήγησε ότι το δωμάτιο που βλέπει προς το νότο είναι για τους ιερείς που υπηρετούν στο ναό. 46 Το άλλο δωμάτιο, που βλέπει προς το βορρά, είναι για τους ιερείς που υπηρετούν το θυσιαστήριο. Αυτοί είναι οι απόγονοι του Σαδώκ, οι μόνοι ανάμεσα στους απογόνους του Λευί που επιτρέπεται να μπαίνουν στο αγιαστήριο για να υπηρετούν τον Κύριο. 47 Ο άντρας μέτρησε την αυλή· ήταν τετράγωνη και είχε μήκος και πλάτος από εκατό πήχεις. Το θυσιαστήριο ήταν μπροστά στο ναό.

48 Έπειτα ο άντρας με έφερε στον πρόναο και τον μέτρησε· το άνοιγμα της εισόδου ήταν δεκατέσσερις πήχεις και οι τοίχοι δεξιά κι αριστερά της τρεις πήχεις ο καθένας, ενώ το πάχος τους ήταν πέντε πήχεις. 49 Το μήκος του πρόναου ήταν είκοσι πήχεις και το πλάτος του δώδεκα. Έφτανε κανείς σ’ αυτόν από δέκα σκαλοπάτια, και δεξιά κι αριστερά από την είσοδο υπήρχε από μία κολόνα.*δώδεκα, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «έντεκα». – δέκα, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. είναι ασαφές.

1 In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither. 2 In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south.*40.2 by which: or, upon which 3 And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. 4 And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.

5 And behold a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed of six cubits long by the cubit and an hand breadth: so he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

24 After that he brought me toward the south, and behold a gate toward the south: and he measured the posts thereof and the arches thereof according to these measures. 25 And there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about, like those windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits. 26 And there were seven steps to go up to it, and the arches thereof were before them: and it had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, upon the posts thereof.

27 And there was a gate in the inner court toward the south: and he measured from gate to gate toward the south an hundred cubits. 28 And he brought me to the inner court by the south gate: and he measured the south gate according to these measures; 29 And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, according to these measures: and there were windows in it and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad. 30 And the arches round about were five and twenty cubits long, and five cubits broad.*40.30 broad: Heb. breadth 31 And the arches thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof: and the going up to it had eight steps.

32 And he brought me into the inner court toward the east: and he measured the gate according to these measures. 33 And the little chambers thereof, and the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, were according to these measures: and there were windows therein and in the arches thereof round about: it was fifty cubits long, and five and twenty cubits broad. 34 And the arches thereof were toward the outward court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps.

35 And he brought me to the north gate, and measured it according to these measures; 36 The little chambers thereof, the posts thereof, and the arches thereof, and the windows to it round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits. 37 And the posts thereof were toward the utter court; and palm trees were upon the posts thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up to it had eight steps. 38 And the chambers and the entries thereof were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.

39 And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering. 40 And at the side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables.*40.40 as one…: or, at the step 41 Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices. 42 And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice. 43 And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.*40.43 hooks: or, andirons, or, the two hearthstones

44 And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north. 45 And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.*40.45 charge: or, ward, or, ordinance 46 And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the LORD to minister unto him. 47 So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.

48 And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side. 49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
