1 Ο Κύριος μου είπε: 2 «Κοίταξε, άνθρωπε, προς την ορεινή χώρα Σηείρ και προφήτεψε εναντίον της.*άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1 – χώρα Σηείρ. Βλ. υποσ. εις Γεν 32:4.3 Πες της: "άκου τι έχει να σου πει ο Κύριος ο Θεός: Είμαι εναντίον σου Σηείρ και θα σε τιμωρήσω· θα σε κάνω έρημη και χέρσα. 4 Τις πόλεις σου θα τις εξαφανίσω κι εσύ ως χώρα θα ερημωθείς και θα μάθεις ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος.

5 "Μέσα σου είχες αιώνια έχθρα για τους Ισραηλίτες.*Η αιώνια έχθρα. χρονολογείται από την εποχή της κατάληψης του ισραηλιτικού εδάφους από τους Εδωμίτες (βλ. Αρ 20:20). Τους άφησες να πεθάνουν τον καιρό της συμφοράς τους, τον καιρό της τελικής καταδίκης τους. 6 Γι’ αυτό κι εγώ ορκίζομαι στον εαυτό μου ότι θα σε θεωρήσω ένοχη αιματοχυσίας και το αίμα αυτό θα σε καταδιώκει παντού. 7 Θα κάνω, Σηείρ, ν’ απομείνεις έρημη κι εγκαταλειμμένη. Θα θανατώνω όποιον περνάει απ’ την περιοχή σου. 8 Θα γεμίσω τα βουνά σου με πτώματα. Στους λόφους σου και στις κοιλάδες σου και σ’ όλα τα φαράγγια σου θα κείτονται οι νεκροί του πολέμου. 9 Θα σε κάνω αιώνια έρημο και οι πόλεις σου ποτέ πια δε θα κατοικηθούν. Και τότε ο λαός σου θα μάθει ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος.

10 "Είπες: Θα κατακτήσω δύο έθνη, τον Ισραήλ και τον Ιούδα! Δύο χώρες, όπου κατοικεί ο Κύριος, θα γίνουν δικές μου! 11 Γι’ αυτό κι εγώ ορκίζομαι στον εαυτό μου ότι θα σου ανταποδώσω όλη την οργή, το μίσος και το φθόνο που έδειξες στους Ισραηλίτες. Θα μάθουν κι αυτοί ότι σας τιμωρώ για τα όσα τους κάνατε. 12 Και θα μάθεις κι εσύ ότι εγώ ο Κύριος άκουσα όλες τις βλασφημίες που ξεστόμισες ενάντια στα βουνά του Ισραήλ, όταν διακήρυττες ότι είναι έρημα και θα μπορούσες να τα αρπάξεις για λεία σου. 13,14 Με τα λόγια σου καυχήθηκες κατά κόρον εναντίον μου, αλλά εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, σε άκουσα. Έχω, λοιπόν, να πω τούτο: Επειδή όλη αυτή η χώρα χαίρεται, εγώ θα την ερημώσω. 15 Εσύ ευχαριστήθηκες με την καταστροφή της χώρας του Ισραήλ, της χώρας που μου ανήκει. Ε, λοιπόν, την ίδια τιμωρία θα φέρω κι επάνω σου. Θα ερημωθείς, ορεινή χώρα Σηείρ,*ορεινή... Σηείρ. Βλ. υποσ. εις Γεν 32:4. και όλοι οι κάτοικοί σου θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος"».

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it, 3 And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.*35.3 most…: Heb. desolation and desolation 4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD. 5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:*35.5 perpetual…: or, hatred of old*35.5 shed…: Heb. poured out the children*35.5 force: Heb. hands 6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee. 7 Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.*35.7 most…: Heb. desolation and desolation 8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword. 9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:*35.10 whereas…: or, though the LORD was there 11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee. 12 And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.*35.12 to consume: Heb. to devour 13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.*35.13 boasted: Heb. magnified 14 Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate. 15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
