1 Τη δωδέκατη μέρα του δέκατου μήνα του δέκατου έτους της αιχμαλωσίας μας,*Δηλ. Δεκέμβριος 588 - Ιανουάριος 587 π.Χ. ο Κύριος μου είπε: 2 «Εσύ, άνθρωπε,*Εσύ, άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1. κοίταξε προς το Φαραώ, το βασιλιά της Αιγύπτου, και προφήτεψε εναντίον του και εναντίον όλης της χώρας του. 3 Φώναξε και πες του: "άκου τι έχει να σου πει ο Κύριος ο Θεός: Είμαι εναντίον σου, Φαραώ, βασιλιά της Αιγύπτου! Μεγάλε κροκόδειλε, που είσαι ξαπλωμένος μέσα στα ποτάμια της και ισχυρίζεσαι πως ο Νείλος είναι δικός σου και ότι εσύ τον έφτιαξες! 4 Θα σου βάλω αγκίστρια στα σαγόνια και θα κάνω τα ψάρια των ποταμών σου να κολλήσουν στα λέπια σου. Θα σε βγάλω από το Νείλο μαζί με τα ψάρια που θα ’χουν κολλήσει πάνω σου. 5 Θα σε πετάξω στην έρημο μαζί με όλα αυτά τα ψάρια. Θα εγκαταλειφθείς μες στα χωράφια. Κανένας δε θα σε περιμαζέψει ούτε θα σε θάψει.*Το να μείνει κανείς άταφος εθεωρείτο ποινή εξαιρετικά βαριά. (βλ. Β΄ Βασ 9:37· Ιερ 8:2· 22:19). Θα σε δώσω στα θηρία και στα πουλιά να σε φάνε. 6 Τότε θα μάθουν όλοι οι κάτοικοι της Αιγύπτου ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος.

"Ήσουν καλαμένιο ραβδί για τους Ισραηλίτες, χώρα της Αιγύπτου. 7 Όταν στηρίζονταν πάνω σου, έσπαζες και τους έσχιζες τα χέρια κι αυτοί σωριάζονταν κάτω. 8 Γι’ αυτό, εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, δηλώνω πως θα σε παραδώσω στους εχθρούς σου και θα εξολοθρεύσω τους ανθρώπους και τα ζώα σου. 9 Η χώρα σου θα γίνει έρημη και χέρσα και τότε θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος.

"Ισχυρίστηκες, Φαραώ, πως ο Νείλος είναι δικός σου κι ότι εσύ τον έφτιαξες. 10 Γι’ αυτό είμαι εναντίον σου και εναντίον του ποταμού σου. Θα κάνω την Αίγυπτο άγονη και έρημη, από τη Μιγδώλ, στο βορρά, ως τη Συήνη, νότια, κι ως τα σύνορα της Αιθιοπίας.*Η Συήνη είναι το σημερινό Ασσουάν, στο νότιο άκρο της Αιγύπτου. – Η Μιγδώλ ήταν πόλη στο ανατολικό Δέλτα του Νείλου.11 Δε θα περάσει μέσα απ’ αυτήν άνθρωπος, ούτε κανένα ζώο θα τη διασχίσει· για σαράντα χρόνια δεν θα κατοικηθεί. 12 Όπως έκανα κι άλλες χώρες, έτσι θα κάνω και την Αίγυπτο έρημη και τις πόλεις της ερείπια για σαράντα χρόνια· και θα διασκορπίσω τους Αιγύπτιους στις ξένες χώρες.

13,14 "Αλλά μετά από σαράντα χρόνια, εγώ ο Κύριος ο Θεός, θα αλλάξω την κατάσταση της Αιγύπτου. Θα ξανασυγκεντρώσω τους Αιγυπτίους μέσα από τους λαούς, όπου θα είναι διασκορπισμένοι και θα τους εγκαταστήσω πάλι στην Παθρώς,*Παθρώς. Βλ. υποσ. εις Ιερ 44:1. στη χώρα της καταγωγής τους. Εκεί θα ιδρύσουν ένα ανίσχυρο βασίλειο. 15 Απ’ όλα τα βασίλεια αυτό θα είναι το πιο ανίσχυρο και ποτέ πια δε θα κυριαρχήσει πάνω στα άλλα έθνη –τόσο ασήμαντους θα τους κάνω. 16 Το βασίλειο αυτό δε θα είναι πια για τους Ισραηλίτες ελπίδα σωτηρίας, αλλά θα τους θυμίζει την ανομία τους, όταν θα στρέφονται προς αυτό για βοήθεια.*Εδώ ο προφήτης υπαινίσσεται τις κατά καιρούς συμμαχίες με την Αίγυπτο (βλ. Ησ 30:2· Ιερ 2:18· Ωσ 7:11). Έτσι θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός"».

17 Την πρώτη μέρα του πρώτου μήνα του εικοστού έβδομου έτους της αιχμαλωσίας μας,*Δηλ. Μάρτιος - Απρίλιος 571 π.Χ. ο Κύριος μου είπε:

18 «Άνθρωπε, ο Ναβουχοδονόσορ, βασιλιάς της Βαβυλώνας, επιχείρησε με το στρατό του μεγάλη εκστρατεία εναντίον της Τύρου. Οι στρατιώτες του καταπονήθηκαν και υπέφεραν πάρα πολλά από την ταλαιπωρία. Παρά ταύτα, ούτε ο ίδιος ούτε ο στρατός του κέρδισαν τίποτε από εκείνη την εκστρατεία.

19 »Γι’ αυτό εγώ, ο Κύριος ο Θεός, δηλώνω ότι δίνω την Αίγυπτο στο Ναβουχοδονόσορ. Αυτός θα την καταλάβει σαν λάφυρο, θα τη λεηλατήσει και θα αρπάξει όλο τον πλούτο της για να πληρώσει το στρατό του. 20 Του έδωσα τη χώρα της Αιγύπτου σαν αμοιβή για την εκστρατεία που είχε αναλάβει εναντίον της Τύρου, γιατί δούλεψε για μένα. Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, το λέω.

21 »Τότε θα κάνω τους Ισραηλίτες δυνατούς και σένα θα σε κάνω ικανό να μιλάς ελεύθερα ανάμεσά τους, ώστε να μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος».

1 In the tenth year, in the tenth month, in the twelfth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: 3 Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself. 4 But I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy rivers to stick unto thy scales, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy rivers, and all the fish of thy rivers shall stick unto thy scales. 5 And I will leave thee thrown into the wilderness, thee and all the fish of thy rivers: thou shalt fall upon the open fields; thou shalt not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given thee for meat to the beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven.*29.5 open…: Heb. face of the field 6 And all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the LORD, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel. 7 When they took hold of thee by thy hand, thou didst break, and rend all their shoulder: and when they leaned upon thee, thou brakest, and madest all their loins to be at a stand.

8 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring a sword upon thee, and cut off man and beast out of thee. 9 And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD: because he hath said, The river is mine, and I have made it. 10 Behold, therefore I am against thee, and against thy rivers, and I will make the land of Egypt utterly waste and desolate, from the tower of Syene even unto the border of Ethiopia.*29.10 utterly…: Heb. wastes of waste*29.10 from…: or, from Migdol to Syene*29.10 Syene: Heb. 13 Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered: 14 And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom.*29.14 habitation: or, birth*29.14 base: Heb. low 15 It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations. 16 And it shall be no more the confidence of the house of Israel, which bringeth their iniquity to remembrance, when they shall look after them: but they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

17 And it came to pass in the seven and twentieth year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 18 Son of man, Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyrus: every head was made bald, and every shoulder was peeled: yet had he no wages, nor his army, for Tyrus, for the service that he had served against it: 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will give the land of Egypt unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon; and he shall take her multitude, and take her spoil, and take her prey; and it shall be the wages for his army.*29.19 take her spoil…: Heb. spoil her spoil, and prey her prey 20 I have given him the land of Egypt for his labour wherewith he served against it, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord GOD.*29.20 for his…: or, for his hire
