1 Τη δέκατη μέρα του δέκατου μήνα του ένατου έτους της αιχμαλωσίας μας,*Δηλ. Δεκέμβριο 589 με Ιανουάριο 588 π.Χ. (βλ. Β΄ Βασ 25:1). ο Κύριος μου είπε: 2 «Εσύ άνθρωπε,*άνθρωπε. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 2:1. σημείωσε αυτή την ημέρα· είναι η μέρα που ο βασιλιάς της Βαβυλώνας πολιόρκησε την Ιερουσαλήμ. 3 Πες λοιπόν, την παροιμία που εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, λέω γι’ αυτούς τους αποστάτες:*αποστάτες. Ο προφήτης απευθύνεται στους εξόριστους Ισραηλίτες.

και μέσα νερό ρίξε.

4 Κόψε μετά το κρέας

και πάρε τα κομμάτια τα καλύτερα

το μπούτι και τη σπάλα

και βάλ’ τα μες στη χύτρα.

Για να γεμίσει, πρόσθεσε

κόκαλα διαλεχτά.

5 Το κρέας να ’ναι απ’ τα καλύτερα τα πρόβατα του κοπαδιού.

Σώριασε ξύλα*ξύλα. Το εβρ. έχει «κόκαλα». κάτω από τη χύτρα

κι άσ’ τα να βράσουνε τόσο πολύ

ως να ψηθούν ακόμα και τα κόκαλα.

6 "Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, λέω: Αλίμονο στην αιμοβόρα πόλη, στη σκουριασμένη χύτρα, που η σκουριά της με τίποτα δε βγαίνει! Θ’ αδειάσει απ’ όλο της το κρέας, κομμάτι κομμάτι, χωρίς εξαίρεση. 7 Φόνοι έγιναν στην πόλη και το αίμα απλώθηκε πάνω στο βράχο το γυμνό· το χώμα δεν το ρούφηξε ούτε το σκέπασε η σκόνη. 8 Κι εγώ το αφήνω εκεί για να το βλέπω, πάνω στο βράχο το γυμνό, για να φουντώνει την οργή μου και να γυρεύει εκδίκηση.*Υπήρχε η αντίληψη πως το χυμένο αίμα βοούσε προς το Θεό ζητώντας του αυτός να κάνει εκδίκηση, γιατί δεν μπορούσε να απορροφηθεί από το έδαφος ή να σκεπαστεί από τη σκόνη.9 Γι’ αυτό, εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός λέω: Αλίμονο στην πόλη την αιμοσταγή, γιατί θα ετοιμάσω κι εγώ πυρά, μ’ ένα μεγάλο σωρό από ξύλα. 10 Σώριασέ τα, άναψε τη φωτιά, βράσε καλά το κρέας, πρόσθεσε τα μπαχαρικά κι άσε να φύγει όλο το νερό και να καούν τα κόκαλα. 11 Τη χύτρα άφησέ την αδειανή πάνω στα κάρβουνα ώσπου να πυρωθεί το μέταλλο, να κοκκινίσει και να χαθεί η ακαθαρσία που ’χει μέσα της και να εξαφανιστεί η σκουριά της. 12 Μάταια, όμως· είναι πολλή η σκουριά της και δεν εξαφανίζεται με τη φωτιά. 13 Η σκουριά είναι η ακολασία σου, Ιερουσαλήμ. Προσπάθησα να σ’ εξαγνίσω, μα στάθηκε αδύνατο. Τώρα δεν θα μπορέσεις πια να εξαγνιστείς, ωσότου εξαντλήσω την οργή μου πάνω σου. 14 Εγώ, ο Κύριος μίλησα· αυτό θα γίνει. Θα το κάνω! Δε θ’ αλλάξω γνώμη, δε θα λυπηθώ ούτε θα μετανιώσω. Θα σε τιμωρήσω ανάλογα με το πώς φέρθηκες και τι έπραξες. Εγώ ο Κύριος, ο Θεός, το λέω"».

15 Μου είπε ακόμα ο Κύριος: 16 «Άνθρωπε, τώρα εγώ μ’ ένα χτύπημα θα σου πάρω αυτήν που είναι των ματιών σου η χαρά. Μη θρηνήσεις όμως και μην πενθήσεις ούτε να χύσεις δάκρυα. 17 Στέναξε σιωπηλά· μην πενθήσεις για τη νεκρή. Τύλιξε όπως πάντα το κάλυμμα γύρω στο κεφάλι σου και βάλε τα σανδάλια σου στα πόδια σου· μη σκεπάσεις το σαγόνι σου και μη δεχτείς να φας απ’ το ψωμί που προσφέρουν σ’ αυτούς που πενθούν». 18 Μίλησα, λοιπόν, στο λαό το πρωί, και το βράδυ η γυναίκα μου πέθανε· το άλλο πρωί έκανα όπως με είχε διατάξει ο Κύριος. 19 Τότε ο λαός με ρώτησε: «Δε θα μας πεις τι σημαίνουν όλα αυτά που κάνεις;»

20 Εγώ τους απάντησα: «Ο Κύριος ο Θεός με πρόσταξε, Ισραηλίτες, 21 να σας πω εκ μέρους του τα εξής: "εγώ, ο Κύριος, θα μολύνω το αγιαστήριό μου, που είναι το καύχημά σας και το στήριγμά σας, που καμαρώνετε να το βλέπετε και να το επισκέπτεσθε. Τ’ αγόρια σας και τα κορίτσια σας που έμειναν στην Ιερουσαλήμ,*που έμειναν στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Κατά την πρώτη μετοικεσία το 597 π.Χ., μόνον ένα τμήμα του πληθυσμού είχε υποχρεωθεί να εγκαταλείψει την Ιουδαία. με ξίφος θα θανατωθούν. 22 Τότε θα κάνετε ότι έκανε κι ο Ιεζεκιήλ: Δε θα καλύψετε το σαγόνι σας ούτε θα φάτε το ψωμί που θα σας φέρουν. 23 Το κάλυμμά σας θα μείνει πάνω στο κεφάλι σας και τα σανδάλια σας στα πόδια σας· δεν θα θρηνήσετε ούτε θα κλάψετε, μόνο θα λιώνετε από τις ανομίες σας και θ’ αναστενάζετε όταν συναντάτε ο ένας τον άλλο. 24 Ο Ιεζεκιήλ θα είναι για σας υπόδειγμα· όπως έκανε εκείνος έτσι θα κάνετε κι εσείς. Όταν θα γίνει κι αυτό, τότε θα μάθετε ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός"».

25 Έπειτα, ο Κύριος μου είπε: «Άνθρωπε, θα ’ρθεί μια μέρα που θα πάρω απ’ αυτούς το αγιαστήριό μου, που σ’ αυτό στηρίζονται, που είναι το καμάρι τους και η χαρά τους, όταν το βλέπουν και όταν το επισκέπτονται. Επίσης θα τους πάρω τ’ αγόρια τους και τα κορίτσια τους. 26 Τότε θα ’ρθει σ’ εσένα ένας που θα έχει γλιτώσει για να σου πει τα νέα. 27 Την ίδια μέρα θα πάψεις να είσαι άλαλος*Γι’ αυτή την αλαλία του Ιεζεκιήλ βλ. κεφ. 3:26. και θα μιλήσεις στο φυγάδα. Έτσι θα γίνεις γι’ αυτούς σημείο και θα μάθουν ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος».

1 Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day. 3 And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it: 4 Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones. 5 Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.*24.5 burn: or, heap

6 Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it. 7 For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust; 8 That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered. 9 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great. 10 Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned. 11 Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed. 12 She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire. 13 In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee. 14 I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord GOD.

15 Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 16 Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.*24.16 run down: Heb. go 17 Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.*24.17 Forbear: Heb. Be silent*24.17 lips: Heb. upper lip 18 So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

19 And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so? 20 Then I answered them, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 21 Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.*24.21 that…: Heb. the pity of your soul 22 And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men. 23 And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another. 24 Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD. 25 Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,*24.25 that…: Heb. the lifting up of their soul 26 That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears? 27 In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the LORD.
