1 Γιοι του Ισραήλ (ή Ιακώβ) είναι οι εξής: Ρουβήν, Συμεών, Λευί, Ιούδας, Ισσάχαρ, Ζαβουλών, 2 Δαν, Ιωσήφ, Βενιαμίν, Νεφθαλί, Γαδ και Ασήρ.

3 Γιοι του Ιούδα ήταν ο Ηρ –πρωτότοκος– ο Αυνάν και ο Σηλά. Οι τρεις αυτοί γεννήθηκαν από την κόρη τού Σουά, τη Χαναναία. Ο Ηρ, όμως, δυσαρέστησε τόσο πολύ τον Κύριο, που ο Κύριος τον θανάτωσε. 4 Επίσης η Θάμαρ, η νύφη του Ιούδα, τού γέννησε το Φαρές και το Ζεράχ. Έτσι, συνολικά οι γιοι του Ιούδα ήταν πέντε.

5 Γιοι του Φαρές ήταν ο Χεσρών και ο Χαμούλ.

6 Οι γιοι του Ζεράχ ήταν πέντε: Ζιμρί, Εθάν, Αιμάν, Χαλκόλ και Δαρά. 7 Γιος του Καρμί ήταν ο Αχάν,*Αχάν, κατά το Ιησ 7:1. Το εβρ. εδώ έχει «Αχάρ», που στα εβρ. σημαίνει «καταστροφή». ο ταραχοποιός, ο οποίος έγινε αιτία συμφοράς στους Ισραηλίτες, γιατί κατακράτησε το λάφυρο που ήταν αφιερωμένο στο Θεό. 8 Γιος του Εθάν ήταν ο Αζαρίας.

9 Γιοι του Χεσρών ήταν οι Ιερουχμεήλ, Αράμ και Χελουβαΐ.

10 Ο Αράμ είχε γιο τον Αμιναδάβ κι ο Αμιναδάβ το Ναχσών, αρχηγό της φυλής Ιούδα. 11 Ο Ναχσών είχε γιο το Σαλμά κι ο Σαλμά το Βοόζ. 12 Ο Βοόζ είχε γιο τον Ωβήδ κι ο Ωβήδ τον Ιεσσαί. 13 Ο Ιεσσαί είχε εφτά γιους: τον Ελιάβ –πρωτότοκο– και μετά κατά σειρά τούς: Αβιναδάβ, Σιμά, 14 Ναθαναήλ, Ραδδαΐ, 15 Οσέμ και Δαβίδ. 16 Αδερφές τους ήταν η Σερουΐα και η Αβιγαία. Γιοι της Σερουΐας ήταν τρεις: ο Αβισάι, ο Ιωάβ και ο Ασαήλ. 17 Η Αβιγαία γέννησε τον Αμασά· πατέρας του ήταν ο Ιεθέρ, ο Ισμαηλίτης.

18 Ο Χάλεβ, γιος του Χεσρών, είχε κόρη την Ιεριώθ, από την πρώτη του γυναίκα, την Αζουβά· γιοι της ήταν οι Ιεσέρ, Σωβάβ και Αρδών.*Ο στ. αποδίδεται σύμφωνα με ορισμένες αρχαίες μετ. Στο εβρ. είναι ασαφής.19 Όταν πέθανε η Αζουβά, ο Χάλεβ πήρε γυναίκα του την Εφράθ, η οποία του γέννησε τον Χουρ. 20 Ο Χουρ απέκτησε τον Ουρί και ο Ουρί το Βεσαλεήλ.

21 Αργότερα ο Χεσρών, σε ηλικία εξήντα ετών, πήρε γυναίκα του την κόρη τού Μαχίρ, πατέρα του Γαλαάδ, κι απέκτησε μαζί της τον Σεγούβ. 22 Ο Σεγούβ απέκτησε τον Ιαείρ –αυτός πήρε στην κατοχή του είκοσι τρεις κωμοπόλεις στη Γαλαάδ.

23 Αλλά οι βασιλιάδες των Γεσουριτών και των Αραμαίων κατέλαβαν τις κωμοπόλεις του Ιαείρ, καθώς και την πόλη Κενάθ με τα γύρω χωριά της. Όλες αυτές οι κωμοπόλεις του Ιαείρ με την Κενάθ και τα χωριά της αποτελούσαν εξήντα οικισμούς και ανήκαν στους απογόνους του Μαχίρ, πατέρα του Γαλαάδ. 24 Μετά το θάνατο του Χερσών, του οποίου η γυναίκα ονομαζόταν Αβιά, ο Χάλεβ συνευρέθηκε με την Εφραθά και απέκτησε τον Ασχώρ, ιδρυτή της πόλης Τεκωά.*Ο στ. αποδίδεται σύμφωνα με ορισμένες αρχαίες μετ. Στο εβρ. είναι ασαφής.

25 Γιοι του Ιεραχμεήλ, πρωτότοκου του Χεσρών, ήταν οι Ραμ –πρωτότοκος– Βουνά, Ορέμ, Οσέμ και Αχιά. 26 Ο Ιεραχμεήλ είχε και άλλη γυναίκα, που ονομαζόταν Αταρά και ήταν μητέρα του Ωνάμ.

27 Γιοι του Ραμ, πρωτότοκου του Ιεραχμεήλ, ήταν οι Μαά, Ιαμείν και Εκέρ.

28 Γιοι του Ωνάμ ήταν οι Σαμαΐ και Ιαδαέ, και γιοι του Σαμαΐ οι Ναδάβ και Αβισούρ. 29 Το όνομα της γυναίκας του Αβισούρ ήταν Αβιχαΐλ· αυτή του γέννησε τον Αχβάν και το Μωλέδ. 30 Γιοι του Ναδάβ ήταν οι Σελέδ και Απαΐμ· ο Σελέδ, όμως, πέθανε χωρίς ν’ αφήσει γιους. 31 Γιος του Απαΐμ ήταν ο Ισεΐ, γιος του Ισεΐ ο Σεσάν και του Σεσάν ο Αχλαΐ.

32 Γιοι του Ιαδαέ, αδερφού του Σαμαΐ, ήταν οι Ιεθέρ και Ιωνάθαν· ο Ιεθέρ, όμως, πέθανε χωρίς ν’ αφήσει γιους. 33 Γιοι του Ιωνάθαν ήταν οι Παλέθ και Ζαζά. Όλοι αυτοί ήταν απόγονοι του Ιεραχμεήλ.

34 Ο Σεσάν δεν είχε γιους· μόνο κόρες. Είχε κι ένα δούλο Αιγύπτιο, που ονομαζόταν Ιαρχά. 35 Σ’ αυτόν έδωσε μία κόρη του για γυναίκα, κι εκείνη του γέννησε τον Αταΐ. 36 Ο Αταΐ απέκτησε το Νάθαν, και απ’ αυτόν συνεχίζουν κατ’ ευθείαν γραμμή οι Ζαβάδ, 37 Εφλάλ, Ωβήδ, 38 Ιηού, Αζαρίας, 39 Χαλής, Ελεασά, 40 Σισαμαΐ, Σαλλούμ, 41 Ιεκαμίας και Ελισαμά.

42 Απόγονοι του Χάλεβ, αδερφού του Ιεραχμεήλ, ήταν: πρωτότοκος ο Μησά, γενάρχης της Ζιφ κι ο Μαρησά,*Μαρησά. Το εβρ. έχει «γιος του Μαρησά», που όμως δε δίνει έννοια στη συνάφεια του στίχου. γενάρχης της Χεβρών. 43 Γιοι του Χεβρών ήταν οι Κορέ, Ταπουάχ, Ρακέμ και Σαμά. 44 Ο Σαμά απέκτησε το Ραχάμ, γενάρχη της Ιορκοάμ και ο Ρεκέμ απέκτησε το Σαμμαΐ. 45 Γιος του Σαμμαΐ ήταν ο Μαών, γενάρχης της Βαιθ-Σουρ.*Τα ονόματα των στ. 42-45 δεν αφορούν μόνο πρόσωπα, αλλά και πόλεις ή κατοίκους πόλεων ή και τα δυο.

46 Η Εφά, παλλακίδα του Χάλεβ, γέννησε το Χαράν, το Μωσά και το Γαζέζ. Ο Χαράν απέκτησε γιο που λεγόταν επίσης Γαζέζ. 47 Γιοι του Ιαδδαΐ ήταν οι Ρεγέμ, Ιωθάμ, Γησάμ, Φελέτ, Γαιφά και Σανάφ.

48 Η Μααχά, άλλη παλλακίδα του Χάλεβ, γέννησε το Σεβέρ και τον Τιρχανά. 49 Επίσης γέννησε το Σαάφ, γενάρχη της φυλής του Μαδμαννά και το Σιβά, γενάρχη της φυλής του Μαχβενά και του Γιβεά. Κόρη του Χάλεβ ήταν η Ασχά.

50 Απόγονοι του Χάλεβ ήταν επίσης οι εξής: Ο Χουρ, πρωτότοκος γιος του Χάλεβ και της Εφραθά. Γιοι του Χουρ ήταν ο Σωβάλ, ιδρυτής της Κιριάθ-Ιαρίμ, 51 ο Σαλμών, ιδρυτής της Βηθλεέμ και ο Χαρέβ, ιδρυτής της Βαιθ-Γαδέρ.

52 Ο Σωβάλ ήταν γενάρχης των κατοίκων της Αροέ και των μισών Μαναχεθιτών. 53 Οι φυλές που κατοικούσαν στην Κιριάθ-Ιαρίμ ήταν οι Ιεθρίτες, οι Πουθίτες, οι Σουμαθίτες και οι Μισραΐτες. Απ’ αυτούς κατάγονταν οι Σαραθίτες και οι Εσταουλαίοι.

54 Απόγονοι του Σαλμών ήταν οι Βηθλεεμίτες και οι Νετωφαθίτες, οι κάτοικοι της Αταρώθ-Βαιθ-Ιωάβ, το άλλο μισό της φυλής των Μαναχεθιτών, και οι Σωρίτες. 55 Οι φυλές που προέρχονταν από τη Σεφέρ,*Οι φυλές... Σεφέρ. Το εβρ. είναι ασαφές. Άλλη πιθανή μετάφραση: «Αυτοί που ήταν ικανοί να γράφουν». και κατοικούσαν στην Ιαβής, ήταν οι Τιραθίτες, οι Σιμεαθίτες και οι Σαχαθίτες. Όλοι αυτοί ανήκαν στους Κεναίους, οι οποίοι κατάγονταν από τον Χαμμάθ, γενάρχη των Ρηχαβιτών.*Βλ. Ιερ 35:2· Β΄ Βασ 10:15-16.

18 And Caleb the son of Hezron begat children of Azubah his wife, and of Jerioth: her sons are these; Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon. 19 And when Azubah was dead, Caleb took unto him Ephrath, which bare him Hur. 20 And Hur begat Uri, and Uri begat Bezaleel.

21 And afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was threescore years old; and she bare him Segub.*2.21 married: Heb. took 22 And Segub begat Jair, who had three and twenty cities in the land of Gilead. 23 And he took Geshur, and Aram, with the towns of Jair, from them, with Kenath, and the towns thereof, even threescore cities. All these belonged to the sons of Machir the father of Gilead. 24 And after that Hezron was dead in Caleb-ephratah, then Abiah Hezron’s wife bare him Ashur the father of Tekoa.

25 And the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were, Ram the firstborn, and Bunah, and Oren, and Ozem, and Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel had also another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. 27 And the sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were, Maaz, and Jamin, and Eker. 28 And the sons of Onam were, Shammai, and Jada. And the sons of Shammai; Nadab, and Abishur. 29 And the name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail, and she bare him Ahban, and Molid. 30 And the sons of Nadab; Seled, and Appaim: but Seled died without children. 31 And the sons of Appaim; Ishi. And the sons of Ishi; Sheshan. And the children of Sheshan; Ahlai. 32 And the sons of Jada the brother of Shammai; Jether, and Jonathan: and Jether died without children. 33 And the sons of Jonathan; Peleth, and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel.

34 Now Sheshan had no sons, but daughters. And Sheshan had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha. 35 And Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant to wife; and she bare him Attai. 36 And Attai begat Nathan, and Nathan begat Zabad, 37 And Zabad begat Ephlal, and Ephlal begat Obed, 38 And Obed begat Jehu, and Jehu begat Azariah, 39 And Azariah begat Helez, and Helez begat Eleasah, 40 And Eleasah begat Sisamai, and Sisamai begat Shallum, 41 And Shallum begat Jekamiah, and Jekamiah begat Elishama.

42 Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were, Mesha his firstborn, which was the father of Ziph; and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron. 43 And the sons of Hebron; Korah, and Tappuah, and Rekem, and Shema. 44 And Shema begat Raham, the father of Jorkoam: and Rekem begat Shammai. 45 And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Beth-zur. 46 And Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, bare Haran, and Moza, and Gazez: and Haran begat Gazez. 47 And the sons of Jahdai; Regem, and Jotham, and Geshan, and Pelet, and Ephah, and Shaaph. 48 Maachah, Caleb’s concubine, bare Sheber, and Tirhanah. 49 She bare also Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbenah, and the father of Gibea: and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah.

These are the Kenites that came of Hemath, the father of the house of Rechab.
