1 Μην ξεχνάς, γιε μου, τη διδασκαλία μου και η καρδιά σου να φυλάει τις εντολές μου. 2 Έτσι χρόνους πολλούς θα ζήσεις και θα πληθαίνει η ευημερία σου. 3 Ας μη σου λείψουν καλοσύνη κι ειλικρίνεια· δέσ’ τες γύρω απ’ το λαιμό σου, στις πλάκες πάνω της καρδιάς σου γράψ’ τες.*στις πλάκες... γράψ’ τες. Η φρ. δεν υπάρχει σε μερικά από τα σπουδαιότερα αρχαία χειρόγραφα. Προφανώς προέρχεται από το στ. 7:3.4 Έτσι θα έχεις την αγάπη και την εύνοια του Θεού και των ανθρώπων.

5 Στον Κύριο να εμπιστεύεσαι μ’ όλη σου την καρδιά και στη δική σου σύνεση να μη στηρίζεσαι. 6 Ό,τι κι αν κάνεις αυτόν να σκέφτεσαι και θα εξομαλύνει αυτός τους δρόμους σου. 7 Τον εαυτό σου μην τον θεωρείς σοφό· τον Κύριο να υπολογίζεις κι απ’ το κακό ν’ απομακρύνεσαι. 8 Έτσι θα βρει το σώμα σου γιατρειά και θ’ ανακουφιστούν τα κόκαλά σου από τους πόνους. 9 Τίμα τον Κύριο προσφέροντάς του απ’ τα αγαθά σου κι από τους πρώτους της σοδειάς σου τους καρπούς. 10 Τότε από στάρι θα γεμίσουν οι αποθήκες σου, τα πατητήρια σου θα ξεχειλίσουν από μούστο.

11 Του Κυρίου την παιδαγωγία, γιε μου, μην την καταφρονείς· μη δυσανασχετείς όταν εκείνος σε διορθώνει. 12 Γιατί όποιον ο Κύριος αγαπάει, εκείνον τον διορθώνει, καθώς παιδαγωγεί ο γονιός το γιο για τον οποίο καμαρώνει.

13 Ευτυχισμένος ο άνθρωπος που βρήκε τη σοφία κι έγινε συνετός! 14 Γιατί το κέρδος απ’ αυτήν είναι καλύτερο απ’ το ασήμι, το όφελός της προτιμότερο απ’ το χρυσάφι. 15 Πιότερο η σοφία αξίζει απ’ τα πολύτιμα πετράδια· κανένα πράγμα ακριβό μαζί της δεν μπορεί να συγκριθεί. 16 Με το δεξί της χέρι προσφέρει μακροημέρευση –πλούτη και δόξα με τ’ αριστερό της. 17 Γεμίζει τη ζωή του ανθρώπου με χαρά, τον οδηγεί στην ευτυχία. 18 Είναι δέντρο που δίνει ζωή σ’ όσους την αγκαλιάζουν, κι ευτυχισμένοι είναι όσοι δική τους την κρατούν.

19 Με τη σοφία ο Κύριος θεμέλιωσε τη γη,

και με τη φρόνηση στερέωσε τους ουρανούς.

20 Με τη δική του γνώση ανοίχτηκαν οι άβυσσοι

και τη δροσιά τα σύννεφα σταλάζουν.

21 Γιε μου, κράτα σφιχτά τη σωφροσύνη και τη νοημοσύνη· να φύγουνε μακριά σου μην τις αφήνεις. 22 Ζωή θα σου χαρίζουν και για τον τράχηλό σου θα ’ναι στόλισμα. 23 Τότε στο δρόμο σου με ασφάλεια θα βαδίζεις κι ούτε που θα σκοντάψει πουθενά το πόδι σου. 24 Όταν πλαγιάζεις, δεν θα σε ταράζει φόβος· κι όταν αποκοιμιέσαι, ο ύπνος σου θα ’ναι γλυκός. 25 Δε θα ’χεις να φοβάσαι ούτε τρομάρα ξαφνική ούτε όταν ξεσπάει θύελλα στους ασεβείς ενάντια· 26 γιατί ο Κύριος θα είναι η ελπίδα σου· το πόδι σου θα το φυλάξει σε παγίδα μην πιαστεί.

27 Μην αρνηθείς να κάνεις το καλό σ’ αυτόν που το ’χει ανάγκη, όταν στο χέρι σου είναι να το κάνεις. 28 Μην πεις στο διπλανό σου: «Φύγε και ξαναέλα, και αύριο θα σου δώσω», ενώ μπορείς να τον βοηθήσεις τώρα. 29 Μη σχεδιάσεις το κακό στον διπλανό σου ενάντια, όταν μαζί σου κατοικεί και σου ’χει εμπιστοσύνη. 30 Χωρίς αιτία μη φιλονικείς μ’ άνθρωπο που δε σου ’κανε κακό.

31 Τον άδικο μην τον ζηλεύεις και το παράδειγμά του μην το ακολουθείς· 32 γιατί ο Κύριος αποστρέφεται τους διεστραμμένους, ενώ στους δίκαιους τα μυστικά του φανερώνει. 33 Στο σπίτι του ασεβή είναι η κατάρα του Κυρίου, ενώ την κατοικία των δικαίων την ευλογεί. 34 Εναντιώνεται στους αλαζόνες, ενώ δείχνει αγάπη στους ταπεινούς. 35 Τη δόξα θα κληρονομήσουν οι σοφοί, ενώ η υπερηφάνεια των ανόητων θα φέρει σ’ αυτούς ατιμία.

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: 12 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: 22 So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. 23 Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble. 24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. 25 Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh. 26 For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
