1 Κάλλιο φτωχός που προχωρεί μες στην ευθύτητά του, παρά πλούσιος, ανόητος και ψεύτης.

2 Καλό δεν είναι για κανένα να του λείπει η γνώση, και θα σκοντάψει όποιος δεν έχει υπομονή.

3 Ο άνθρωπος με την ανοησία του χαλάει τη ζωή του· κι ύστερα αγανακτεί στον Κύριο ενάντια.

4 Τα πλούτη αυξαίνουνε τους φίλους, μα το φτωχό τον παρατάει ο φίλος του.

5 Δε θα μείνει ατιμώρητος ο ψευδομάρτυρας, κι αυτός που λέει ψέματα δε θα γλιτώσει.

6 Πολλοί το γενναιόδωρο τον κολακεύουνε, κι όλοι είναι φίλοι εκείνου που χαρίζει.

7 Όλα τ’ αδέρφια του τον αποφεύγουν το φτωχό, κι ακόμα περισσότερο τον παρατούν οι φίλοι· στηρίζεται σε υποσχέσεις που δεν ισχύουν πια.*στηρίζεται... πια. Η κατανόηση του εβρ. είναι αβέβαιη. Κατά λ. το εβρ. έχει: «αυτός κυνηγά λέξεις που δεν είναι τίποτε».

8 Σοφία όποιος αποκτάει, καλό δικό του κάνει· όποιος τηρεί αυτά που ’μαθε, την ευτυχία θα βρει.

9 Δε θα μείνει ατιμώρητος ο ψευδομάρτυρας· κι αυτός που λέει ψέματα θα χαθεί.

10 Αταίριαστο ο ανόητος να ζει μες στην απόλαυση κι ο δούλος πιο αταίριαστο να εξουσιάζει αφέντες.

11 Η φρόνηση του ανθρώπου το θυμό του τον συγκρατεί, κι είναι τιμή του να ξεχνάει ότι τον πρόσβαλαν.

12 Σαν λιονταριού είναι βρυχηθμός του βασιλιά η οργή και σαν δροσιά πάνω στη χλόη η εύνοιά του.

13 Ο γιος ο ανόητος καταστροφή είναι του πατέρα του, και της γυναίκας οι διαμάχες λούκι που στάζει και δε σταματά.

14 Σπίτι και πλούτη από τους γονείς μπορεί κανείς να τα κληρονομήσει· αλλά η γυναίκα που έχει νου, χαρίζεται απ’ τον Κύριο.

15 Η τεμπελιά ρίχνει σε λήθαργο βαθύ κι ο άνθρωπος ο νωχελικός θα δοκιμάσει πείνα.

16 Όποιος τηρεί τις εντολές φυλάει τη ζωή του, μα θα πεθάνει όποιος αδιαφορεί για τη συμπεριφορά του.

17 Όποιος σπλαχνίζεται φτωχό, τον Κύριο δανείζει, κι αυτός ανάλογα με το έργο του θα του το ανταποδώσει.

18 Σκληρά το γιο σου να παιδαγωγείς όσο υπάρχει ελπίδα, για να μη συντελέσεις στην καταστροφή του.

19 Άφησε τον οξύθυμο να γευτεί τις συνέπειες, γιατί αν τον απαλλάξεις δεν πρόκειται να διορθωθεί.

20 Ν’ ακούς τις συμβουλές, τις διδαχές να δέχεσαι, ώστε να γίνεις τελικά σοφός.

21 Πολλά είναι τα σχέδια μέσα στου ανθρώπου την καρδιά, μα του Κυρίου το θέλημα αυτό είναι που θα γίνει.

22 Είναι τιμή στον άνθρωπο η αγαθότητά του, κι από έναν ψεύτη πιότερο αξίζει ένας φτωχός.

23 Ο σεβασμός στον Κύριο, φέρνει ζωή· ο ευσεβής χορτάτος θα πλαγιάζει, κακό δεν θα τον βρει.

24 Βουτάει το χέρι του ο τεμπέλης στη γαβάθα, αλλά βαριέται να το φέρει ως το στόμα του.

25 Χτύπα τον αλαζόνα, κι αν είν’ καλοπροαίρετος θα συνετιστεί. Διόρθωσε τον φρόνιμο και θ’ αποχτήσει γνώση.

26 Αυτός που βασανίζει τον πατέρα του και διώχνει τη μητέρα του, είν’ ένας γιος επαίσχυντος κι άξιος καταφρόνιας.

27 Θα πάψεις γιε μου διδαχή ν’ ακούς; Από τα λόγια θ’ απομακρυνθείς της γνώσης.

28 Ο μάρτυρας ο ασεβής τη δικαιοσύνη τη χλευάζει· με ανομία τρέφονται τα στόματα των ασεβών.

29 Ποινές είν’ έτοιμες για τους χλευαστές, και ραβδισμοί για των ανόητων τη ράχη.
