1 Παροιμίες του Σολομώντα.

Ο σοφός γιος είναι χαρά για τον πατέρα του κι ο γιος ο ανόητος της μάνας του η λύπη.

2 Δεν ωφελούν οι θησαυροί που μ’ ανομία αποκτήθηκαν, αλλά η τιμιότητα απ’ το θάνατο λυτρώνει.

3 Δεν θα αφήσει ο Κύριος τον δίκαιο να πεινάσει, αλλά θα αρνηθεί να εκπληρώσει την επιθυμία των αδηφάγων ασεβών.

4 Το χέρι το τεμπέλικο φέρνει φτώχεια, ενώ το χέρι του φιλόπονου πλουτίζει.

5 Όποιος το καλοκαίρι αποθηκεύει είναι γιος συνετός· μα όποιος τον καιρό του θερισμού κοιμάται είναι γιος ανάξιος.

6 Είν’ ευλογίες στο κεφάλι του δικαίου, ενώ αδικία ξεχειλίζει από το στόμα των ασεβών.

7 Εγκώμια συνοδεύουν του δικαίου τη θύμηση, ενώ των ασεβών τ’ όνομα θα χαθεί.

8 Του σοφού η καρδιά δέχεται τις συμβουλές, ενώ όποιος λέει ανοησίες ξεπέφτει.

9 Όποιος ζει με εντιμότητα, με σιγουριά βαδίζει· ενώ όποιος υποκρίνεται, θα φανερωθεί.

10 Όποιος με τα μάτια νεύει υποκριτικά, λύπη προκαλεί· κι όποιος λέει ανοησίες, θα ξεπέσει.

11 Πηγή ζωής είναι το στόμα του δικαίου, ενώ αδικία ξεχειλίζει από το στόμα των ασεβών.

12 Το μίσος διαμάχες προξενεί, αλλά τα λάθη όλα η αγάπη τα σκεπάζει.

13 Στου φρόνιμου τα χείλη η σοφία κατοικεί· του ανόητου η ράχη χρειάζεται ραβδί.

14 Τη γνώση του ο σοφός την αποθησαυρίζει, ενώ τα λόγια τού άφρονα φέρνουν καταστροφή.

15 Τον πλούσιο τα πλούτη του γερά τον προστατεύουν, ενώ η φτώχεια του φτωχού είν’ η καταστροφή του.

16 Τα έργα των δικαίων στη ζωή οδηγούν, των ασεβών τα κέρδη πάνε στην αμαρτία.

17 Αυτός που δέχεται να τον διορθώνουν είναι στο δρόμο της ζωής, ενώ αυτός που την επίπληξη ξεχνάει αποπλανιέται.

18 Όποιος το μίσος του το κρύβει είναι υποκριτής· όποιος συκοφαντεί είναι ανόητος.

19 Μες στην πολυλογία δεν λείπει η αμαρτία, μα όποιος τη γλώσσα του δαμάζει είναι σοφός.

20 Τα λόγια του δικαίου, ασήμι εκλεκτό· ενώ η καρδιά των ασεβών καμιά δεν έχει αξία.

21 Τα λόγια των δικαίων καθοδηγούν πολλούς, αλλά πεθαίνουν οι άφρονες απ’ την ανοησία τους.

22 Πλούτο χαρίζει του Κυρίου η ευλογία, δεν την ακολουθεί θλίψη καμιά.

23 Για τον κουτό είν’ απόλαυση αισχρές να κάνει πράξεις, μα για τον άντρα το σοφό φρόνιμα να ενεργεί.

24 Ό,τι φοβάται ο ασεβής απάνω του θα πέσει, μα θα εκπληρωθεί του δίκαιου η ευχή.

25 Όπως περνάει ο σίφουνας, χάνεται ο ασεβής· ενώ ο δίκαιος σταθερός παντοτινά θα μένει.

26 Στείλε τεμπέλη σε δουλειά, και θα τον νιώσεις όπως τα δόντια νιώθουνε το ξύδι, όπως τα μάτια τον καπνό.

27 Όποιος τον Κύριο σέβεται οι μέρες του αυξαίνουν, αλλά των ασεβών τα χρόνια λιγοστεύουν.

28 Η ελπίδα των δικαίων στη χαρά οδηγεί, ενώ των ασεβών η ελπίδα θα χαθεί.

29 Ο δρόμος του Κυρίου είναι οχυρό για τους ακέραιους· γι’ αυτούς που κάνουν το κακό, είναι καταστροφή.

30 Ο δίκαιος δεν θα σαλευτεί ποτέ· ενώ τη χώρα οι ασεβείς δεν θα την κατοικήσουν.

31 Λόγια σοφίας βλασταίνουν απ’ του δικαίου το στόμα, ενώ θ’ αποκοπεί η γλώσσα που λέει ψέματα.

32 Τα χείλη του δικαίου είναι γεμάτα χάρη, των ασεβών το στόμα γεμάτο ψέματα.

20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.*10.21 of wisdom: Heb. of heart 22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. 23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. 25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. 26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.*10.27 prolongeth: Heb. addeth 28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. 30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. 32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.*10.32 frowardness: Heb. frowardnesses
