1 Τη ζυγαριά που κλέβει τη μισεί ο Κύριος, ενώ το ζύγι το σωστό είν’ ευχαρίστησή του.

2 Όταν έρχεται η έπαρση, θα ’ρθεί κι η καταισχύνη· ενώ η σοφία είναι με τους ταπεινούς μαζί.

3 Οι ίσιοι άνθρωποι έχουν την εντιμότητά τους να τους οδηγεί, ενώ τους δολερούς η πονηριά τους θα τους καταστρέψει.

4 Τα πλούτη είν’ ανώφελα την ημέρα της κρίσης, ενώ η δικαιοσύνη λυτρώνει από το θάνατο.

5 Η δικαιοσύνη του ακέραιου ανθρώπου τού εξομαλύνει τη ζωή, ενώ ο ασεβής θα καταστραφεί απ’ την ασέβειά του.

6 Γλιτώνει η δικαιοσύνη τους ανθρώπους που είν’ ευθείς, ενώ οι παράνομοι από την απληστία τους πιάνονται σε παγίδα.

7 Όταν πεθαίνει ο ασεβής, χάνεται κι η ελπίδα του, χάνονται και οι προσδοκίες που στηρίχτηκαν στα πλούτη.

8 Ο δίκαιος λυτρώνεται απ’ τη θλίψη του, κι ο άνομος αντί γι’ αυτό μέσα στη θλίψη πέφτει.

9 Με τα λόγια του ο ασεβής το διπλανό του καταστρέφει, αλλά οι δίκαιοι χάρη στη γνώση θα σωθούν.

10 Όταν οι δίκαιοι ευτυχούν, η πολιτεία γιορτάζει· και στου ασεβή τον όλεθρο ακούγονται κραυγές χαράς.

11 Όταν την πόλη τους την ευλογούνε οι ευθείς, αυτή δοξάζεται· ενώ γκρεμίζεται με τις κουβέντες των ασεβών.

12 Ο ανόητος χλευαστικά μιλάει για τον πλησίον του, μα ο συνετός σωπαίνει.

13 Αυτός που τριγυρνάει και λέει πολλά κι ανώφελα, δεν μπορεί να κρατήσει μυστικό· ενώ ο έμπιστος άνθρωπος λέξη γύρω δεν λέει.

14 Χωρίς διακυβέρνηση σοφή ο λαός ξεπέφτει· ενώ όπου οι σύμβουλοι είναι πολλοί, εκεί είναι ασφάλεια.

15 Όποιος για ξένον μπαίνει εγγυητής, κακό δικό του· μα εκείνος που διστάζει να μπλεχτεί, είναι πιο ασφαλής.

16 Γυναίκα που έχει χάρες, τιμή κερδίζει· κι εκείνος που έχει δύναμη, πλούτο κερδίζει.

17 Ο άνθρωπος ο καλοκάγαθος κάνει καλό στον εαυτό του, ενώ το ίδιο του το σώμα βλάπτει αυτός που ’ναι σκληρός.

18 Ο ασεβής κερδίζει ψεύτικο μισθό, μα αυτός που σπέρνει δικαιοσύνη, βέβαιη θα ’χει ανταπόδοση.

19 Έτσι η δικαιοσύνη στη ζωή οδηγεί· μα όποιος το κακό ακολουθεί, στο θάνατο πηγαίνει.

20 Ο Κύριος μισεί τους διεστραμμένους, ενώ του είναι ευχάριστοι όσοι είν’ ακέραιοι στη ζωή τους.

21 Βέβαιο είναι πως ο κακός δεν θα μείνει ατιμώρητος· μα των δικαίων οι απόγονοι θα γλιτώσουν.

22 Ό,τι είναι χρυσός κρίκος στη μύτη γουρουνιού, το ίδιο γυναίκα όμορφη, που η φρόνηση της λείπει.

23 Η επιθυμία των δικαίων βγαίνει μονάχα σε καλό· των ασεβών οι ελπίδες στην οργή καταλήγουν.

24 Ένας μοιράζει απλόχερα και πιότερο πλουτίζει, κι άλλος μαζεύει αχόρταγα και πιότερο φτωχαίνει.

25 Ο γενναιόδωρος θα ευημερήσει· κι όποιος νερό προσφέρει κι αυτός θα ποτιστεί.

26 Αυτός που κρύβει το σιτάρι, κατάρα θα ’χει απ’ το λαό, ενώ ευλογίες θα ’χει αυτός που το πουλάει.

27 Εκείνος που στοχεύει στο καλό, την εύνοια κερδίζει· μα το κακό θα πέσει πάνω σ’ αυτόν που το επιδιώκει.

28 Όποιος στα πλούτη του εμπιστεύεται, θα πέσει σαν φύλλο το φθινόπωρο· ενώ οι δίκαιοι θα βλασταίνουν σαν φυλλωσιά το καλοκαίρι.

29 Όποιος βλάφτει το σπίτι του, αέρα θα κληρονομήσει· και δούλος ο ανόητος θα ’ναι στον μυαλωμένο.

30 Ο καρπός του δικαίου είναι δέντρο ζωής, κι είναι σοφός αυτός που πείθει τους ανθρώπους.

31 Αν έχει ο δίκαιος στη γη την ανταπόδοσή του, πόσο μάλλον ο ασεβής και ο αμαρτωλός!

10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting. 11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
