1 Η σοφή γυναίκα οικοδομεί το σπίτι της· η ανόητη με τα ίδια της τα χέρια το γκρεμίζει.

2 Όποιος μ’ ευθύτητα βαδίζει σέβεται τον Κύριο, ενώ όποιος παρεκτρέπεται τον καταφρονεί.

3 Τα ίδια τα περήφανα λόγια του ανόητου τον βλάπτουν, ενώ τα λόγια των σοφών τούς προφυλάσσουν.

4 Εκεί που βόδια δεν υπάρχουν, το αμπάρι μένει αδειανό· τα γερά βόδια είναι που φέρνουν τον άφθονο καλό καρπό.

5 Μάρτυρας αξιόπιστος ποτέ δεν λέει ψέματα, μα άλλο ο ψευδομάρτυρας απ’ την ψευτιά δεν ξέρει.

6 Ζητάει ο περήφανος σοφία και δεν τη βρίσκει· για κείνον όμως που έχει νου, εύκολη είν’ η γνώση.

7 Φεύγα από τον ανόητο μακριά! Τα λόγια του δεν έχουνε να σε διδάξουν γνώση.

8 Του φρόνιμου η σοφία είναι να ξέρει το τι κάνει· του ανόητου η ανοησία τον οδηγεί στην πλάνη.

9 Οι ανόητοι συμφωνούν από κοινού για την αμαρτία τους, ενώ οι δίκαιοι για το καλό.

10 Του κάθε ανθρώπου η καρδιά ξέρει τα βάσανά της· κι ούτε μπορεί να μοιραστεί ο ξένος τη χαρά της.

11 Το σπίτι των ασεβών θα καταστραφεί, ενώ των τίμιων ανθρώπων δεν κλονίζεται η σκηνή.

12 Μπορεί ένας δρόμος να φαντάζει για σωστός κι όμως το τέλος του να οδηγεί στο θάνατο.

13 ’Κει που γελάει ο άνθρωπος, μπορεί να θλίβεται η καρδιά του· και η χαρά μπορεί με λύπη να τελειώνει.

14 Του πλανεμένου η καρδιά απ’ τα έργα του χορταίνει· και ο καλός ο άνθρωπος πολύ περσότερο χορταίνει απ’ τα δικά του.

15 Ο απλοϊκός πιστεύει κάθε λόγο, μα ο φρόνιμος προσέχει πώς συμπεριφέρεται.

16 Υπολογίζει το κακό ο σοφός κι απομακρύνεται απ’ αυτό, μα ο ανόητος προχωρεί με σιγουριά γεμάτος.

17 Αυτός που οργίζεται εύκολα, ανοησίες κάνει· κι όποιος με πανουργίες πορεύεται, γίνεται μισητός.

18 Οι αφελείς θα έχουνε μερίδιο στην ανοησία, ενώ οι φρόνιμοι με γνώση στεφανώνονται.

19 Οι κακοί θα προσπέφτουνε μπροστά στους αγαθούς, κι οι ασεβείς χάρη θα ζητούν στις πόρτες των δικαίων.

20 Ο φτωχός φρίκη προκαλεί ακόμα και στο σύντροφό του, ενώ οι φίλοι του πλουσίου είναι πολλοί.

21 Όποιος περιφρονεί τον διπλανό του αμαρτάνει· μα είν’ καλότυχος αυτός που τους φτωχούς σπλαχνίζεται.

22 Τάχατε δεν πλανιούνται όσοι σχεδιάζουν το κακό; Μα θα κερδίζουν σεβασμό κι εμπιστοσύνη όσοι σχεδιάζουν το καλό.

23 Κάθε κουραστική εργασία φέρνει αφθονία, ενώ οι φλύαρες κουβέντες μονάχα στην ανέχεια οδηγούν.

24 Για τους σοφούς ο πλούτος τους στεφάνι· για τους ανόητους στεφάνι η ανοησία τους.

25 Ο μάρτυρας σώζει ζωές όταν λέει την αλήθεια, ενώ ο ψευδομάρτυρας παραπλανάει τους ανθρώπους.

26 Τον Κύριο όποιος σέβεται έχει ισχυρή ελπίδα και τα παιδιά του βρίσκουνε σ’ αυτόν καταφυγή.

27 Ο σεβασμός στον Κύριο είναι πηγή ζωής· απομακρύνει απ’ τις παγίδες του θανάτου.

28 Ο πολυάριθμος λαός, του βασιλιά είναι δόξα· χωρίς λαό χάνεται κι ο ηγεμόνας.

29 Αυτός που το θυμό του συγκρατεί, πολλή έχει φρονιμάδα· κι όποιος αρπάζεται με μιας, δείχνει πως είν’ ανόητος.

30 Ζωή είναι για το σώμα η ήρεμη καρδιά, μα το μίσος είν’ αρρώστια που κατατρώει τα κόκαλα.

31 Αν καταπιέζεις τον φτωχό, τον πλάστη του προσβάλλεις· ενώ όταν τον φτωχό ελεείς, τον πλάστη του τιμάς.

32 Τον ασεβή οι κακίες του οι ίδιες τον γκρεμίζουν· ενώ τον δίκαιο και στη θανή του ακόμα, δεν τον αφήνει η ελπίδα.

33 Μες στην καρδιά του συνετού αναπαύεται η σοφία, μα ανάμεσα στους άμυαλους αυτή είναι άγνωστη.

34 Τα έθνη η δικαιοσύνη τα εξυψώνει, ενώ η αμαρτία είναι ντροπή για τους λαούς.

35 Ο βασιλιάς τον αγαπάει το συνετό το δούλο, αλλά οργίζεται με τον ανάξιο.
