1 Ο άγγελος που μιλούσε μαζί μου ήρθε πάλι και με ταρακούνησε, όπως όταν ξυπνάνε κάποιον απ’ τον ύπνο. 2 «Τι βλέπεις;» με ρώτησε. Κι εγώ απάντησα: «Βλέπω έναν ολόχρυσο λυχνοστάτη μ’ ένα δοχείο λαδιού πάνω του· το δοχείο έχει εφτά στόμια κι από το κάθε στόμιο ξεπροβάλλουν εφτά φυτίλια. 3 Βλέπω και δυο λιόδεντρα κοντά στο λυχνοστάτη, ένα στα δεξιά του και ένα στ’ αριστερά του». 4 Τότε ρώτησα τον άγγελο που μιλούσε μαζί μου: «Τι σημαίνουν αυτά, κύριέ μου;»

5 «Δεν ξέρεις τι σημαίνουν αυτά;» μου είπε. Κι εγώ απάντησα: «Όχι, κύριέ μου». 6 Τότε μου είπε:*Οι στ. 6 έως 10 αφορούν το Ζοροβάβελ και διακόπτουν την απάντηση που προεξαγγέλλεται στο στ. 6. Γι’ αυτό παρατίθενται παρακάτω, μετά το στ. 14.10 «Αυτά τα εφτά λυχνάρια είναι τα μάτια του Κυρίου, που παρατηρούν ολόκληρη τη γη».

11 Τότε τον ρώτησα: «Τι σημαίνουν αυτά τα δύο λιόδεντρα στα δεξιά και στ’ αριστερά του λυχνοστάτη;» 12 Και τον ρώτησα για δεύτερη φορά: «Τι σημαίνουν οι δυο κλάδοι τα λιόδεντρα, οι οποίοι χύνουν το λάδι με δυο χρυσούς σωλήνες;» 13 Εκείνος μου είπε πάλι: «Δεν ξέρεις τι σημαίνουν αυτά;» Κι εγώ απάντησα: «Όχι, κύριέ μου». 14 Τότε μου είπε: «Αυτά συμβολίζουν τους δυο ανθρώπους*τους δυο ανθρώπους. Πρόκειται πιθανότατα για τον αρχιερέα Ιησού και το διοικητή Ζοροβάβελ. που έχουν χρισθεί με λάδι, για να υπηρετούν τον Κύριο όλης της γης».

Αυτός είναι ο λόγος του Κυρίου που με πρόσταξε να μεταφέρω στο Ζοροβάβελ: «Ούτε με ανθρώπινη ισχύ θα πετύχεις ούτε με φυσική δύναμη, αλλά με το Πνεύμα μου! Εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το λέω. 7 Ποιος είσαι εσύ, μεγάλο βουνό;*μεγάλο βουνό. Νοείται ίσως το ερειπωμένο όρος του ναού, απ’ όπου θα έπαιρναν πέτρες για το νέο κτίριο. Πεδιάδα θα γίνεις μπροστά στο Ζοροβάβελ. Αυτός θα βγάλει το ακρογωνιαίο λιθάρι και όλοι θα τον ενθαρρύνουν ζητωκραυγάζοντας».

8 Μου είπε ακόμη ο Κύριος: 9,10 «Ο Ζοροβάβελ θεμελίωσε αυτόν το ναό κι αυτός θα τον αποπερατώσει. Κι αυτοί που περιφρόνησαν τη φτωχική έναρξη της ανοικοδόμησης, κι αυτοί ακόμα θα χαρούν, όταν θα δουν το Ζοροβάβελ να τοποθετεί το τελευταίο λιθάρι».

Τότε θ’ αναγνωρίσετε ότι ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος με απέστειλε σ’ εσάς.

1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, 2 And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, No, my lord. 6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.*4.6 might: or, army 7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. 8 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. 10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.*4.10 for they…: or, since the seven eyes of the LORD shall rejoice*4.10 plummet: Heb. stone of tin
