1 Ο Κύριος λέει: «Εκείνη την εποχή θα ανοιχτεί πηγή για να καθαρίζονται οι απόγονοι του Δαβίδ και οι κάτοικοι της Ιερουσαλήμ από την αμαρτία τους και την ακαθαρσία τους. 2 Εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος, θα εξαλείψω τα είδωλα από τη χώρα, ώστε να μη θυμούνται πια ούτε τα ονόματά τους.

Ακόμα θα εξαφανίσω από τη χώρα όλους τους προφήτες που κατευθύνονται από ακάθαρτο πνεύμα. 3 Κι αν κανείς παρ’ όλα αυτά παρουσιαστεί σαν προφήτης, τότε οι ίδιοι οι γονείς του θα του πουν: "δεν έχεις πια το δικαίωμα να ζεις, γιατί είπες ψέματα, όταν ισχυρίστηκες ότι ο Κύριος σε είχε προστάξει να κηρύξεις". Και πριν ακόμα τελειώσει τις προφητείες του, οι ίδιοι οι γονείς του θα τον θανατώσουν με ξίφος. 4 Εκείνη την εποχή δεν θα υπερηφανεύονται πια οι προφήτες για τα οράματά τους· θα φοβούνται να τα ανακοινώσουν δημόσια, και δε θα φορούν πια τον τρίχινο μανδύα των προφητών για να εξαπατούν τον κόσμο. 5 Όταν θα ρωτάνε κάποιον απ’ αυτούς, θα απαντάει: "εγώ δεν είμαι προφήτης, είμαι ένας που δουλεύει στο χωράφι· από μικρό παιδί έχω χωράφι". 6 Και αν θα τον ρωτούν: "τι είναι αυτές οι πληγές στο στήθος σου;"*οι πληγές στο στήθος σου. Οι παλιοί προφήτες χάραζαν με μαχαίρια το σώμα τους (πρβλ. Α΄ Βασ 18:28). εκείνος θ’ απαντάει: "τις απέκτησα στο σπίτι των φίλων μου"».

7 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος λέει: «Σήκω ξίφος και χτύπα το βοσκό μου, που τον έκανα συνεργάτη μου. Θα χτυπήσω το βοσκό και τα πρόβατα θα σκορπιστούν· θα σηκώσω το χέρι μου και θα χτυπήσω ακόμα και τα μικρά αρνάκια. 8 Σ’ όλη τη χώρα τα δύο τρίτα των κατοίκων θα καταστραφούν και θα εξαφανιστούν, και μόνο το ένα τρίτο θα επιζήσει σ’ αυτήν. 9 Αυτό το ένα τρίτο θα το περάσω απ’ τη φωτιά και θα τους καθαρίσω όπως καθαρίζουν το ασήμι· θα τους δοκιμάσω όπως δοκιμάζουν το χρυσάφι. Τότε, αυτό το τρίτο του λαού θα με επικαλεσθεί κι εγώ θα τους απαντήσω: "εσείς είστε ο λαός μου". Κι αυτοί θα πουν: "εσύ, Κύριε, είσαι ο Θεός μας"».

2 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. 3 And it shall come to pass, that when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begat him shall say unto him, Thou shalt not live; for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD: and his father and his mother that begat him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth. 4 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be ashamed every one of his vision, when he hath prophesied; neither shall they wear a rough garment to deceive:*13.4 a rough…: Heb. a garment of hair*13.4 deceive: Heb. lie 5 But he shall say, I am no prophet, I am an husbandman; for man taught me to keep cattle from my youth. 6 And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.

7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones. 8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. 9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
