1 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος μου είπε: 2 «Αγάπησα τη Σιών με το παραπάνω και οργίστηκα υπερβολικά εναντίον των εχθρών της. Εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το λέω. 3 Γι’ αυτό θα επιστρέψω στο όρος Σιών και θα κατοικήσω μέσα στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Η Ιερουσαλήμ θα ονομαστεί "πιστή πόλη" και το βουνό του Κυρίου του σύμπαντος "άγιο βουνό". Εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το λέω. 4 Πάλι θα καθίσουν γέροι και γριές στις πλατείες της Ιερουσαλήμ, καθένας με το ραβδί του στο χέρι του· σε τόσο μεγάλη ηλικία θα έχουν φτάσει! 5 Οι πλατείες της πόλης θα πλημμυρίσουν με αγόρια και κορίτσια, που θα χαίρονται σ’ αυτές. Εγώ ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το λέω. 6 Κι αν αυτοί που επέζησαν από το λαό, θεωρούν μη πραγματοποιήσιμο αυτό το μέλλον, εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος, μπορώ να το κάνω πραγματικότητα. 7 Θα ελευθερώσω το λαό μου από τις χώρες της ανατολής και της δύσης. 8 Θα τους φέρω να κατοικήσουν εδώ μέσα στην Ιερουσαλήμ· θα γίνουν λαός μου κι εγώ θα είμαι Θεός που θα τους κυβερνώ με πιστότητα και δικαιοσύνη. Εγώ, ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος το λέω».

9 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος λέει: «Πάρτε θάρρος! Θυμηθείτε τα λόγια των προφητών μου που σας κήρυξαν την ημέρα που θεμελιώθηκε ο ναός μου. 10 Σας είπαν εκ μέρους μου: "μέχρι τώρα δεν υπήρχε αντιμισθία για τους εργάτες· ούτε τα ζώα απέδιδαν τίποτε. Όποιος έβγαινε από την πόλη φοβόταν για τη ζωή του· κι εγώ ξεσήκωνα τον ένα εναντίον του άλλου. 11 Από ’δω και πέρα όμως θ’ αλλάξω συμπεριφορά απέναντι σ’ όσους επέζησαν απ’ αυτό το λαό. 12 Θα σπείρω ειρήνη: Οι ουρανοί θα στέλνουν τη βροχή τους, τ’ αμπέλια θα δίνουν τα σταφύλια τους και η γη τα γεννήματά της. Κι όλα αυτά θα ανήκουν σ’ εσάς, όσους έχετε εναπομείνει από το λαό μου. 13 Όπως ήσασταν παράδειγμα καταραμένου λαού ανάμεσα στα ειδωλολατρικά έθνη, εσείς βασίλεια του Ιούδα και του Ισραήλ, έτσι εγώ τώρα θα σας κάνω παράδειγμα ευλογημένου λαού, γιατί θα σας απελευθερώσω". Μη φοβάστε λοιπόν! Πάρτε θάρρος!»

14 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος λέει ακόμα: «Όταν οι πρόγονοί σας με εξόργισαν, αποφάσισα να σας κάνω κακό· και δεν άλλαξα γνώμη τότε. 15 Έτσι και τώρα αποφάσισα αμετάκλητα να κάνω καλό στην Ιερουσαλήμ και στο λαό του Ιούδα. Μη φοβάστε! 16 Προσέξτε όμως να εφαρμόζετε τις εντολές μου: Να μην εξαπατάτε ο ένας τον άλλο, και ν’ αποδίδετε δικαιοσύνη στα δικαστήριά σας για το καλό όλων σας. 17 Μη σχεδιάζετε κακό ο ένας εναντίον του άλλου και πάψτε να αρέσκεστε στις ψευδορκίες, γιατί όλα αυτά εγώ ο Κύριος τα μισώ».

18 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος μου είπε: 19 «Οι νηστείες του τέταρτου, του πέμπτου, του έβδομου και του δέκατου μήνα*Τον τέταρτο μήνα του 587 π.Χ. είχε γίνει το πρώτο ρήγμα στο τείχος της Ιερουσαλήμ και το δέκατο μήνα του 589 π.Χ. είχε αρχίσει η πολιορκία της πόλης (Β΄ Βασ 25:1-4). Για τους υπόλοιπους μήνες του στ. βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 7:2,5. θα μεταβληθούν σε μέρες αγαλλίασης, χαράς, και πανηγυρισμών για το λαό του Ιούδα. Με τον όρο όμως ότι θα αγαπάτε την αλήθεια και θα εργάζεστε για το κοινό καλό».

20 Ο Κύριος του σύμπαντος λέει: «Θ’ αρχίσουν πάλι να έρχονται στην Ιερουσαλήμ ξένα έθνη και κάτοικοι πολλών άλλων πόλεων. 21 Οι κάτοικοι της μιας πόλης θα πηγαίνουν στην άλλη και θα λένε: "πάμε γρήγορα να προσευχηθούμε στον Κύριο, ν’ αναζητήσουμε τον Κύριο του σύμπαντος!" Και οι άλλοι θ’ απαντούν: "Ερχόμαστε κι εμείς μαζί σας!" 22 Έτσι θα έρχονται πολλοί λαοί και δυνατά έθνη για να αναζητήσουν τον Κύριο του σύμπαντος στην Ιερουσαλήμ και να προσευχηθούν σ’ αυτόν. 23 Εκείνη την εποχή δέκα άνθρωποι από διαφορετικά έθνη θα πιάνουν την άκρη του μανδύα ενός Ιουδαίου και θα του λένε: "θέλουμε να ’ρθούμε κι εμείς μαζί σου, γιατί ακούσαμε ότι ο Θεός είναι μαζί σας"».

1 Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury. 3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.*8.4 very…: Heb. multitude of days 5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. 6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.*8.6 marvellous: or, hard, or, difficult 7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;*8.7 the west…: Heb. the country of the going down of the sun 8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. 10 For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.*8.10 there was…: or, the hire of man became nothing 11 But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.*8.12 prosperous: Heb. of peace 13 And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. 14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not: 15 So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:*8.16 execute…: Heb. judge truth, and the judgment of peace 17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

18 And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying, 19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.*8.19 feasts: or, solemn, or, set times 20 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: 21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.*8.21 speedily: or, continually: Heb. going*8.21 to pray…: Heb. to intreat the face of 22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.*8.22 to pray…: Heb. to intreat the face of 23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
